Ratings from the 70's
For AMC, the summer was over and the time slot change was beginning to erode its ratings. Ryan's Hope tanked at 1pm now -- in last place. OLTL was struggling.

All My Children going strong despite time change to 12:30PM that will change in the fall. Ryan's Hope is very weak in its debut at 1pm and had no other network competition in its time slot.

Yep Agnes preferred 30 minutes but you are correct the bigger studio and more money for actors and more sets lured Agnes into AMC going to 60 minutes.

Yep. ABC was testing AMC in the hour format. Agnes Nixon was very upset that AMC was moved to 12:30 for RH. Agnes sold OLTL and AMC in early 1975. Agnes blamed the time slot move for AMC's decline in ratings.

Ratings from the 70's
All My Children moves to 12:30PM as Ryan's Hope premieres on July 7, 1975. AMC's ratings will decline following the move and will begin to increase when AMC expands to 60 minutes in April 1977. AMC gets its 1pm slot back in January 1977. Ryan's Hope takes AMC 1pm slot.

Remarkable how strong All My Children is in LA. But Restless had good ratings overall nationally during that time to make up for its poor performance in the LA market.

Ratings from the 70's
All My Children lost about 10 to 15% of its audience after it moved from 1pm to 12:30pm in July 1975. RH took AMC's slot when it debuted and RH was a bomb in the slot. ABC lost more of its audience when RH was at 1 and it was not until AMC went back to 1PM in January 1977 did its ratings recover and eventually in April 1977 AMC went to an hour and ratings increased.

Strong All My Children at No. 2. GH tanking. All My Children within 0.3 ratings point away from Restless during week of 2/8 to 2/12. GH is just doing terribly now. Why is DAYS so low?

That is true. Maybe the Bells would sell a stake. WHat people fail to see is business always changes. And I was just laughed at not by you. SO you know what I am respectfully leaving. P&G back in the soap business? Business it is all about making money, selling products and goods and selling ads.

Anything is possible with Disney/ABC, to say that it is not going to happen at all is naive from a business perspective. Did anyone think CBS would do what they did ? Most would have said no. ABC owns GH - big difference. I bet it still makes money for Disney. If it didnt do you think Iger would still have it on the air. CBS is willing to take a business risk. So Iger and Disney/ABC would not take a risk if B&B became available? Or revive a soap? Iger had gone on record that ABC and the Disney streaming platforms need more content. It is all about the money. You may be right. But the Bells own B&B and they can move it anywhere if CBS decides to not renew.

I am happy about this new creation of a soap opera. I am very confident in MVJ's abilities. CBS is very smart to do this. I think the new show will be very successful. As for what happens to B&B, it will likely stay on CBS. I do not see the Bells selling their interest in Restless to anyone. Even if CBS dumped B&B, do not be suprised if ABC gets B&B or Amazon or Netflix picks it up. Iger at Disney/ABC needs and wants content for ABC and/or Hulu/Disney +. Amazon and Netflix need contant as well. Talk shows, news and reality programs in daytime have run their course. Talk shows and news programs like ABC airs in the daytime are marginally profitable. I would not be surprised if this new development causes Disney/ABC to ponder revivals of AMC and OLTL in 30 minutes formats and placement on broadcast ABC and Disney's streaming platforms. Besides the View, ABC Daytime needs an infusion of new content and energy. This development is good for the soap opera format and genre.

Thank you for all your hard work @JAS0N47 I am so fascinated by all the ratings and the demos. Are you still going to work on the 1970s too?

General Hospital really slumping for ABC. All My Children a solid Number 2 but way behind Restless. Besides AMC, ABC is slumping.

ABC Daytime
All My Children premiered on January 5, 1970 — 54 years ago today.

ABC: ‘All My Children’: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Developing Primetime Version
Disney needs good content that is not Marvel or Star Wars - which they are running out of...it is expensive.

ABC: ‘All My Children’: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Developing Primetime Version
Now that Disney is buying hulu and combining it with Disney+, I can see Disney reviving AMC but as a 30 minute soap on ABC and then replay on Disney/Hulu +. Disney will need content. Perhaps even OLTL in time. ABC Daytime right now is on shaky ground ratings wise and needs a jolt and All My Children could do that.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Thanks. I won’t bite. As to the verifiably of what I said, let’s just say I have heard it from people who were around in 1994 and connected to Holly and Hayman. There was not a lot goodwill or condolences sent. And that is all I can and will say on the matter. I am not discussing what the other commenter wrote. Thank you @Vee

I know about that alleged incident. Someone can deny anything vehemently and it still can be true. Both Lillian Hayman and Ellen Holly allegedly heard the comment. Hayman and Holly refused to attend the 20th and 25th party after numerous directors network people and even Agnes Nixon’s calls. They both refused. I wonder why. Does anyone see Slezak saying anything about Ellen’s death? She did for Andrea Evans. When Hayman died only Ellen showed up at the funeral. No one attended from ABC or the show. Not a card or a basket or flowers. No one said anything publicly . Not Agnes. Not Slezak. I wonder why. Ellen was very close to Lillian and gave the eulogy. Ellen Holly and Lillian Hayman were wonderful human beings and actresses. RIP Ellen and Lillian. No one knows the truth. It does not really matter anymore.

I agree but I also think the rapid expansion of cable TV in the late 80s and early 90s contributed to the softening of the soap's ratings. There was so much more to choose from as compared to just the 3 networks and a handful of other stations.

That is right. ABC owned Loving and it probably made ABC some money but once the affiliates started to lose money and complain, Loving was iced.

All My Children now a solid Number 2. GH is slipping and will continue to drop. OLTL is tanking and will continue to drop. Loving's clearances begin to drop.
