Alan Locher's "Locher Room" youtube show, August 7, 2020. This is a reunion of writers who wrote for As the World Turns. The first hour is entirely about ATWT. I didn't watch that part because I never saw that soap. After that first hour, the host Alan asks the writers what they are doing now. Susan Dansby starts talking about Y&R. Susan Dansby announced that as of the day before (August 6), it was firmed up that she is returning to Y&R. She said she will be a "story_____" Part of what she said was not able to be heard. Not clear if this is temp or ongoing, because someone talked over her. This was already posted on the Directors and Writers thread. Posting here on this racial representation thread because Susan Dansby said that when she originally joined Y&R (in 2011), she was the first black writer on Y&R. The quote is first in 47 years but what was intended was this: When she originally joined Y&R in 2011, she was the first black person on the writing team in the history of the show. And as of 2020, Y&R has been on the air for 47 years. She said she was shocked when she first joined (in 2011) to learn she was the first, because ATWT had had 4 black writers. In her current return to Y&R, she joins black writer Lynn Martin who has been at Y&R since 2018. She goes on to talk about racism and hiring practices. Susan starts talking at about 1:05:00 into the video.

I get so tired of hearing comments that women are exhausting, hysterical, unhinged, cray ... because they speak up.

The irony of watching all these Y&R classic repeats, many of which have Victoria Rowell as Dru and Scott Reeves as Ryan, some in the same episode. It's like I must watch and can't watch at the same time.

Thank you! that's what I wanted to say but couldn't find the words for. There was definitely that layer in what Devon was saying.

I read an old recap or summary mentioning Dru cutting up Carmen's clothes and I thought that was not really what Dru would have done. The show wrote Phyllis cutting up Sharon's clothes, too. But Phyllis is supposed to be crazy. Dru isn't. Carmen isn't a really a Karen, as you pointed out. But I was trying to say that Dru being upset at Carmen, and even cutting up the clothes, Dru getting physical with Carmen --- for those things Carmen wanted Dru imprisoned and the D.A said the best deal he could offer was two years in prison. Two years in prison is not appropriate. I haven't seen many of that year's episodes, but I've been reading the recaps for that year, and It seems like Carmen was written to be a manipulative character who "preys on married men" said one summary. I don't know. I haven't seen enough clips of her to get what she was really like. Was Carmen simply being a bad person and trying to get rid of the competition for Neil and didn't care if imprisoning Dru was unjust? Or was Carmen being a "Karen" in that the writers were using Carmen as someone who thought of Dru as ghetto/dangerous/unsafe and must be arrested? I can't tell from reading the recaps.

Bryton won the 2007 Emmy for it. Devon was talking about Drucilla but... As I watched today, it felt like a parallel to Victoria Rowell. She's not crazy. She just defends what's right. And even more, this clip feels to me like a parallel to everything that's going on on the world. Carmen Mesta is being a Karen getting Dru arrested for no reason. Carmen is afraid. Says Dru started it. etc. And Devon calls her out.

WHOOPS. I meant to say Neil had a secretary in 1997! I had several tabs open and was looking at something from 1984 on another tab. I intended to talk about Neil Winters in 1997 (not Neil Fenmore in 1984). Sorry about that! Neil Winters first appeared on Feb.14, 1991. Neil Fenmore was on Y&R approximately 1983-86, I'm not sure. So sorry I made such a confusing post with the wrong year! Let me start over.... I understand Neil Winters had a secretary in 1997. Does anyone know the character name and/or the actor name?
