  1. A little random, but it just came to me. Ted has more of a father/son relationship with Andre than with his own son. I mean when I think about it even Nicole has more of a connection with Andre than Martin. Part of it is because storyline has dictated that Andre have more scenes with Ted and Nicole, but it still feels off. They really need to have Martin interact with his parents a little more. During yesterday's episode, I got a little confused when Martin walked into Uptown and greeted Dani as Aunt Dani...I was like sister?...oh wait, right that's his aunt. Doesn't help that the the actors that play Dani and Martin are only like 7 years apart. Also, Martin tends to rely heavily on his grandparents for advice. They also seem more invested in whatever he's hiding. Do we know if Ted and Nicole know what this secret might be?
  2. Seeing you all mention positive outside perspectives and the show performing well, what is it that we know about the shows performance through the network's eyes? One thing I was curious about before the show premiered was how its success would be measured. Obviously with anything money is usually the bottom line and that would mean outperforming its previous time slot holder to start, which as far as I'm aware it is. Also, I doubt many people who didn't watch The Talk live were streaming later on in the day unless there was someone on that day they really wanted to see. So in that respect, BTG has the advantage in that people are more likely to stream it. The big difference between The Talk and BTG is cost of production. I can't imagine BTG is cheap to produce even though they've taken some measures to ensure its a bit more cost effective like shooting in a market that isn't typical for soap opera production. I mostly stream BTG on Paramount+. I show hasn't really been on their Top Shows list and personally I don't think they did much to promote it on the platform. If you watch CBS/CBS Daytime you would know about it, but if you were exclusive to the platform there wasn't much push on there. I actually saw an ad on Peacock, which was interesting.
  3. Thank you. I like this Ted, but let's see what happens.
  4. It's catchy. Not what I was expecting them to have Anita sing - not because of her age on the show, but because they keep talking about this group The Articulettes which sounds reminiscent of 60s era Motown girl groups. However, this sounds a little like Pebbles Girlfriend...def has the NJS vibe.
  5. The actor who plays Ted seems super positive about the show on Twitter and keeps posting really cute things. Do we know why there's going to be a change or what exactly happened?
  6. Very much how I feel. I'm not critical, because I want this project to fail. I'm just expressing what I see as I would with any other soap. I have watched every single day and I am giving BTG its kudos as well. Mayebe some of us went in with expectations and maybe some of those were too high. However I'm not going to Kandi Koat what's not good or keep some delulu vision of the show.
  7. They also need to give the country club their china back and pick something more fitting for the setting.
  8. I don't mind Uptown being a breakfast spot, too. Gives the space more functinality. I used to frequent a place like that. In the mornings, it was a cafe/brunch place and in the evenings it had live music and alcohol (sometimes even karaoke). However, they need to have the "lights on" in the mornings. Though, I don't know if I want to see what that green on the walls looks like with bright lighting.
  9. Anita was like we got food at home Vernon.
  10. Yasss....especially since they keep playing it.
  11. She did look younger tho 😃 🤣 One place this show doesn't miss is the fashion.
  12. The events themselves don't bother me. I enjoy having large number of the cast interacting within a scene. However, I think they could have utilized these group scenes better in that they didn't do much to advance story.
  13. Do you feel that tho? Aside from a solid black cast, there's not much about this soap that I can truly say is cutting edge storywise. The storylines are pretty tame and on brand for soaps for the past 20+ years. There's a gay couple, but they're so vanilla and heteronormative and the hint of Chelsea getting down with couples hadn't really developed into much yet. Exactly my thoughts. We have been swimming in cliches. I'm committed because I want this to work and yes I know that this is a brand new project and it will have its hiccups. But on that same note, it is a new project but following the same old script. I feel like the storylines needed to be new, fresh, exciting but keep the core elements of soaps like the melodrama, the long looks and pause to a cut, the families, etc. I really hopes sweeps turns this around.
  14. I think that would have made more sense as to why Naomi would drop the case versus the numb hand and no actual doctor follow-up that played out. Bill could have had the mini attack as you mentioned and Naomi drops the case. Then, in a twisted way he convinces Naomi to take the case back on. Maybe Naomi feels some guilt that her soror wasn't really doing the job against the great Bill Hamilton and Bill, himself, also missed having that back and forth/debating cases with his daughter like they used to. Thinking he would still win the case, he nudges her into taking it back on so he could have that connection with his daughter which he's been missing since the divorce. Then, at trail Bill could have had a major attack and this could have led to Naomi feeling guilt as well as creating ripples that could impact the rest of the canvas. I feel like at times, some of the creators may be too close to their characters/actors where it becomes difficult to write them messy or ugly - really dig into those not so pleasant places, because all of the characters seem too safe sometimes aside from Dana. I'm still hopeful tho. My being critical is because I really want this to go well. All they need her to do is go into the hospital for some screenings and have Shanice find out. She can then conveniently drop that information into the hands of someone who will let the Duprees know. However, it would probably need to be someone overhearing a conversation between Shanice/doctor/scheduler and Hayley at the hospital. Like I get this soap wants to be real and not make it where characters are just out here violating every ethics code in their profession, all medical staff just disregard HIPAA, etc. However, the Duprees seem to be a big deal in the community and our girl Shanice likes to talk. It wouldn't be so far fetched to think she would pick up the phone to her bestie and be like you're not gonna believe this...Hayley is pregnant! Another character could easily overhear. This is another instance of the show playing it very safe. Nicole and Ashley never discuss their patients around their family and are very by the book with it. Firstly, that's not real. We all know a spouse is going to come home and let their SO know all about some crazy stuff that went down at work. They may not say names, addresses and insurance info. but they're going to speak on it. Some of these characters are painted like the most uppity goody too shoes you've ever seen. It's a soap...we need mess.
  15. Even though there's a lot going on, it sometimes feels like nothing is happening.
  16. I thought so too, but it looks awful. It's also unnecessary. They could have done that whole scene somewhere else.
  17. Negatives: Eva chatting with the bougie bunch at the country club, while they had their noses pointed up at her, yet neither could pronounce osetra or sommelier properly. I don't run in those circles and I know how to pronounce those words. Wondering why no one corrected this. I was mildly less bothered by it when they admitted to Eva they also aren't from "that world." What is this impromptu hospital set with all those privacy screens? It looks a mess. Honestly, they could have used the same space and created a triage area that would work so well for other scenes if they invested in hospital stories. They could have lined those privacy screens so it looked like rows instead of the scattered mess they had them in and put one bed in the section that's actually being filmed. Could have been like Doug was getting immediate attention without taking up a room, since he's staff. Martin and Tomas line delivery is still emotionless, but they've improved. Positives: The family dynamic at Uptown was cute. "Clerb" was funny...seeing this side of Dani was actually refreshing. Not sure where they're going with this Anita singing stuff. The song was okay, but I second whoever said it sounded a bit New Jack Swing and definitely not what Anita would be singing in her group. Although, Donna Summer and Diana Ross experimented with some of their sound in throughout the 80s, so I'm going to give that a pass. Martin's butt and bulge. They know what they're doing. Also, Martin fangirling to his grandma's music was perfection. Would have been even better if they had Smitty belting out her music as well. Pure queer cinema.
  18. I'm so bored with this casino storyline. I didn't even care for that cliffhanger and the previews for next week seemed dull. I hope they deliver something big for sweeps. It's also strange how a Dupree always talks up the Dupree thing like Kat at Uptown hinting at a Dupree always coming out on top or getting their way. There needs to be more balance...another family. Everyone on the canvas is either a Dupree or an extension of the family -married into, grandchild, friend of. Aside from Joey, Doug, and Shanice everyone knows a Dupree or has a relationship with one.
  19. 😂 I will say that this week's episode of Nicole and Anita having full discourse over Febreeze and how Kat wouldn't have it any other way was bordering on too much. Much rather they keep it simple, like Nicole spraying some Febreeze and Anita walks in and expresses how nice it smells and they move on.
  20. ATWT was also big on the product placement around that time. I still remember a storyline around 2004 when Dusty had taken Lucy to a hideout which was a warehouse filled with P&G products. It made me laugh and I still think of that from time to time. I don't mind the product placements as long as they're done organically. Don't zoom into a bottle of Dawn at the sink. Wow, I agree with all your points aside from the last two about Ted and the Duprees. I think the Duprees are a bit more nuanced than we may believe. Vernon fought through the Civil Rights movement, he beat the system to make a legacy for himself and his family, so he's not going to easily have that stripped away. While Anita and Vernon may be too quick to fix their kids' problems, they know there are ramifications for those things in their gated community. It's all about the image you can present to the outside not what's really hidden inside.
  21. Gorgeous. So if they're filming episode 100 today, it would mean filming is about 3 months ahead. Episode 100 should air sometime in mid-July if there's no major preemptions.
  22. Three characters I wouldn't care if they were completely off the canvas. They do nothing for me. I don't even care for Dani and Andre much, I rather she be causing mess somewhere else.
  23. This is completely random, but was anyone else perplexed by how much Kat was playing with Samantha's hair when they were backstage talking to Smitty and Martin? It would have been fine if it was quick, but it was so distracting that I couldn't help by fix my eyes on it and all the way thinking girl put her hair down.
  24. Agree with everything you said. That purse was surprising! Not in a good way. It didn't seem youthful or innovative at all. It looked like a handbag Chelsea or Kat's mom took to prom in the 80s. Unfortunately with tight budgets, these big events always take you out of the fantasy. For a charity event, there was no one there. No guests mingling, no staff serving drinks. one dress on display for auction but no other items to bid on in sight. I totally get this is pretty much standard for daytime if not much worse, so I'm not faulting BTG but it just sucks because there's so much potential here. At first I didn't notice the actress playing Samantha was much older than her character, but getting to see more of her today made that more obvious.
  25. As already's been mentioned, one thing I can't fault BTG on since its start is the styling. The fashion is on point and it puts a show like B&B which revolves around the fashion industry to shame (but I've felt this way about Bold for a long time.) Even characters like Eva and Dana which are not wealthy like the Duprees have their own aesthetic that suits them so well.
