Thank you @VanessaReardon once again. Always interesting to see the ups and downs, back in the day. How one week, the top rated soap is above a 10.0, yet there was a week where the No. 1 soap was only in the 7's, with everyone down across the board as well. It'd be interesting to know the reason, such as a day-long preemption that last lasted several days.

During this time, looks like OLTL wasn't benefiting as much being sandwiched in between AMC and GH

Damn, that's a quick and unfair decline for Ryan's Hope. I'm guessing this is the same sort of thing that happened to Edge of Night back in '75 when they switched it from 4:30 to 2:30.

And as previously discussed, it's funny as a long time soap fan and numbers nerd to have that "shocking" revelation that during GL's 3 weeks being "number one" in August 1984, they were just No. 1 in their timeslot beating GH, but Y&R was still the top show overall. Funny how that was reported incorrectly for years. I, too, have some old SOD's where they specifically mention in GL's timeline that they hit No. 1 in the ratings during that timeframe. Liars!

I truly have nothing that supports GL as number 1 in 1984. I am a HUGE fan of what Gail Kobe and Pam Long did at GL so if they actually hit #1, I’d shout it out!!   What I DO have is a note from the GL Fan Club President at the time saying that GL beat GH for 3 weeks but Y&R was #1. And I do have my own personal interaction with Gail Kobe. Entertainment Tonight ran a story and interviewed Gail about beating GH for 3 weeks. The very next day after the ET story was the 1984 untelevised Daytime Emmys and I went to New York and stood outside the hotel with many other fans. I saw Gail Kobe and said to her “You’re #1!” She said “not yet, but we will be”. This is a true story. GL never hit #1, after that unfortunately.

  2. Mental illness is a real illness. I get that. May god bless you on your journey. Just please stop spamming these boards with nonsense. We’re all begging you to STOP!! This used to be a nice place before you invaded it with nonsense. STOP it! Please.

Don't even try anything like that! You know damn well what I meant.

A picture of Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg has no relevance whatsoever in this thread, just like your long rambling on famous soap fans had no place in the "What are you listening to" thread just to name another example.

I saw that and I didn’t even know who those people are that she posted a pic of. I chalked it up to her obvious mental illness. She has to have attention. I’m giving it to her, I know, and I should be ignoring her, but it’s comforting to know that so many others feel the same. I have gotten SO many private messages about her.

She is truly a sick woman. We are all reporting her. She ruins EVERY thread.

It’s a long time ago but I want to say it was July 1984. Entertainment Tonight did a story about the ratings.

Yes, they did. And they said that GL beat GH in the ratings for 3 weeks in a row, not that GL was #1.

So regarding these monthly 1984 ratings, what month did GL supposedly hit #1 at?

Interesting to see ATWT get to #3, I'm guess that must have been Whit McColl's murder and Fulton returning as Lisa.

GL never hit #1 in 1984. That is such a myth. But they did beat GH for 3 weeks. (Y&R was #1 during those 3 weeks) Unfortunately the Daytime TV magazine ratings snapshot missed those 3 weeks that GL beat GH

  7. This woman seeks attention. STOP it Donna. Just stop posting nonsense! You couldn’t post this stuff on the 444 pages long AMC thread? I hope all of the reporting of you Donna will get you banned. We’ll all be better without the WRONG info that you spew. Stop seeking attention! If you are so ill, concentrate on getting well and stop seeking attention here. Please. Please make this board great again.

  8. Just a reminder that the handwritten month and year is the issue date of Daytime TV. They did not specify which weeks these ratings are for but we can conclude that they are a few months behind. Santa Barbara doesn’t show up until the 1/85 issue.

  9. So you never said this:

Now, I loved Jonathan, hated Sandy & that danged hand puppet. Oy, Ellen Weston, loved Jammy, and loved Jonathan & Sarah. Bill & Lizzie were good together. I found Reva to be too much there at the end & with Jeffrey O'Neill. I don't like doppelgangers. Prince Richard was enough. We didn't need him back after that. Loved Otalia & their international popularity.

I see where you said that Ellen Weston loved Jammy but apparently you see something different.

Worst EPs ever: I name John Conboy over his brief tenure at GL. I name JFP over 4 shows including the murder of Frankie Frame at AW & killing Mo at GL. To me Ellen Wheeler did a great job with the new production model and with the stories of Otalia & Jammy & the new show music & themes. She also came up with budget to make up for a deficit Conboy created.

You contradict yourself Donna. In another thread, you posted about Frankie’s murder being the brainchild of Susan Lee at NBC and Margaret DePriest. JFP had nothing to do with Frankie’s murder. Getting back to GL, again, you post incorrect information. Jonathan and Tammy happened well AFTER Ellen Weston left GL, but you claim that Ellen Weston loved Jammy. Please post facts and not fiction. Thank you.

You certainly implied in the worst executive producer thread that Conboy and Weston had stuff to do with the Peapack days. You defended Wheeler's shoddy production values during Peapack and then went on to say, "the next part was learning how to write for the new structure. Which they very well did, but it took some time & part of that time was wasted having ConWest in place!" Sorry but that statement gives the impression that Conboy and Weston were still employed in 2008. They were gone by 2004 so how could their employment have had anything to do with the time to implement storytelling changes that occurred in 2008?

Thank you, @Robbwolff. There is no dealing with that woman. She’s out there, for sure.

I definitely did not mean to if I did. They were long gone. We agree that they were long gone.

I don't consider EW to have had shoddy production values. I do defend Wheeler's productions value, yes.

I meant by that to acknoweldge that they did have to learn to write TO the new medium and that they didn't initially know how to write to it.

By that I just meant that having ConWest hanging over, was in their way when they needed to be getting on with the business of proactively teaching themselves how to write for the new production model. Didn't Ellen Weston stay a whole year in the way? She was the Writer.  And. Conboy was the Producer but he was the Producer who was spending more than his share of budget, spending budget that Wheeler would need, etc.

Well, if it seemed like that, I'm sorry it did because it was not what I meant. The effects of what Weston wrote infringed & the amount that Conby spent infringed. But, they were gone. We agree that they were gone.

    Hangover.

I  just love giving you a laugh!

Conboy and Weston left GL YEARS before Peapack. They were not still hanging on. Wow. You just don’t get it.

Irna's son Tom has read it & I believe he has it. So has Elana Levine. Tom got in touch with Roger Newcomb of We Love Soaps.net and indicated to him that he wants it to end up with him to work on it in some way. I would love to help. We have two proofreaders here, me and one other person. We could definitely help out. Elana said to me that it is in definite need of work.

Oh mother of god. When you proof read Donna, remember to fact check. Fact check. Fact check. Fact check.
