BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Finally got to watch only the second daytime soap opera premier in my lifetime! What worked for me: Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis, and Nicole. Bill the cheater, his new woman and Kara Mosley. I'm interested to see Bill scheming. We need a powerful antagonist. The sets were great! What didn't work for me: -the younger black couple (Naomi and the guy) and the younger white couple. They just felt like extra weight. -pacing: it felt a little slow, I think this would've worked better as a 30 minute show but we're well past that now. Overall it was just the first episode, interested to see where this goes, this is definitely better than B&B. Suggestion for the opening, to familiarize the audience with character names, put it above the actor names. Example:

Maybe CBS thought of this already but it would be smart to air reruns on BET and make this show avalible on BET+. Can't wait for Monday! Regarding the intro It's not terrible, the theme is okay. It just needs something more grand, catchy and classic like Y&R or DAYS had. This has a generic power point presentation underscore feel to it. It's amazing as time went on, and technology advanced, soap intros looked more amateurish such as GH's openings since 2010, and Y&R's 50th anniversary open. ATWT's 2007 theme was really good but the visuals sucked!

ALL: Couple vs SUPER Couple?
I almost feel like Alan and Monica Quartermaine should be added to that Super couple list. Alan's death quickly equaled reduced story for Monica.

Exactly. In January would've made for a better sweeps month because it was so much more exciting. Exactly. I agree the age gap is weird in that Jason "slept" with a girl who slept with Jason's nephew whom he held as a child. From the standpoint of a woman in her early 30s messing with a guy in his mid-50s, (who looks like he's 45) wasn't that crazy to me.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Yes! He's in almost every Pinkerton scene. I'm finally growing to appreciate Pinkerton's portrayal. That I love how cold and calculating she is. Dear I say I might like her more than the great Robin Strasser. There was a thread about day and night in soaps, and I noticed how rapidly 70s OLTL advances time. You could go from one day to the next in a single episode.

I also think the inflated cost of living which keeps young people at home longer infantilizes our perception of young people in their mid-20s and early thirties. But just like Laura on GH, Viki (and this Dorian) on OLTL were dressed very mature for their ages. Im so far loving Pinkerton's portrayal. She has a very old Hollywood/primetime quality about her acting. I don't think there was a single week actress to play Dorian. Pinkerton,Malis, Strasser and Princi were all superb.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Not sure if this was posted already But this YouTube channel has a treasure trove of episodes including a OLTL from 1975 with Victor Lord alive slayed by Shepard Strudwick. Some of the previous '70s episodes of One Life to Live that were posted a few years back featured a distinct lack of Vicki, But she's in some of these! I still hold out hope that clips of Victor Lord's death storyline will surface.

ALL: What are your lost soap media "holy grails" for 2025?
It's like we made this thread and then this channel just answered so many of those requests.... I'm especially excited for pre 1978 OLTL! I'm finally seeing footage of Victor Lord's last years alive, including Shepherd Strudwick in the role!!! https://youtube.com/@mitch6225?feature=shared OLTL 1975: https://youtu.be/ThMBxsLvXLY?si=KKy-JVyjVHdBsOaw

GH: January 2025 Discussion Thread
Who was Jason to tell Sasha about a father's right to know about paternity 🤣 if this isn't irony. Years ago, before I was exposed to any classic soaps, I used to wonder what was happening on shows like General Hospital 30 years ago. Low and behold it's the same characters doing the same things. Sonny Jason and Carly are all caught up in the same situations in 2024 that they were in 2004. Just like Viki was dealing with DID IN 2008 and 1968, Katherine was moaning about Phillip in 2008 and 1978, and Ridge Taylor and Brooke are still in the same love triangle in 2025 that they were in 1995. It's amazing (and bad) how long these soaps all drag the same stories over decades.

ALL: Couple vs SUPER Couple?
But, marriages on the Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful did not last long. B&B brakes couples up too fast for anyone to care. On Y&R for example Victor and Nikki have been a super couple for nearly 45 years but they've only actually been married for less than 20. Victor started cheating on Nikki just one year into the marriage. And for characters like Ashley, she got married so frequently most of her pairings I don't care about outside of Victor and maybe Brad. I think ABC, specifically General Hospital is the best at super couples because they're given years to build momentum on screen.
