Ugh I saw his final episode - April 23. The whole situation is so sad. At least his last scene was with Holly, and as he walked out the door, you could almost tell Holly was emotional in her face as she gave a half smile/sad eyes gaze as he left. Then May 1, Roger is back as the new actor Dennis Parlato in a scene with Blake. He reminds me of an 80/90s AMC Adam Chandler (David Canary) on appearance/stature haha. With this big Spaulding party that Amanda/Roger are hosting and everyone is getting ready for... I wonder if they just didn't think Zaslow was up to it? When they announced the new actor, they said "Today, the role..." - so remind me, was it open for Zas to come back potentially, or did they make the decision permanently from the beginning?

😲 I almost always agree with everything you say (you're a smart guy btw!), but not one this one haha Did you see the fallout of the 'Ted is the father' story? She was so good and showed quite a bit of range as she went through her emotions. She's definitely the best younger actor on the show, IMO.

I don't know, a lot seems to happen in 1994 that I want to go see. Both Matt and Annie arrive, so I'd love to be able to see them from the beginning. I think Peter's custody battle and Bridget/Dylan happens. Jenna leaves, which would help me better appreciate her as I watch this story unfold in '97. Alan comes back. I'd love to see more of the original Eleni, and the character actually have a storyline. When I started my watch in Feb 95, Eleni was in Greece and Frank had to save her - it was exciting. Then, they're back in Springfield and we have a new actress playing Eleni and she's background with no story for at least over 2 years now. Oh and then I think Blake/Ross get married in 1994 from what I've read, so would love to see that beginning. Gosh, I may just find a good stopping point in 1997 and hurry up and watch 1994. I know some people think this era is awful, but I love 90s soap opera and it's leagues better than anything I've see from 2010-current day.

LOL, you can't even type his name out. I know you hate Matt, but gosh, I really like him. Being so handsome helps too I'm sure he'll eventually piss me off later, but so far, in two years, he hasn't. That take on Vanessa makes sense. I wish I knew Maureen. I guess I'll see how this plays out, but Vanessa was pretty protective over Peter in 1995 when Roger/Dinah were together, Hart came back, and Vanessa took Peter to Europe with her for a month so Roger or the people after Dinah wouldn't kidnap him. I guess the only flaw in your take is that Vanessa hasn't been around for the last 8 months to see Bridget actually be responsible enough to where Vanessa wouldn't have to worry anymore. I guess I'll see if Vanessa makes it back to Springfield before Bridget/Peter leave.

I can't believe Vanessa would act that way, although she did fake her death and let her whole family grieve, which I'm still very much side-eyeing Vanessa for. I love Vanessa generally, and I'm curious to see how she reacts to Peter being gone (my assumption) when she finally returns to Springfield. Just seems lazy and inappropriate of her to not be interested in being Peter's mother after all this time she was so interested.

Ahh - I started my watch in Feb 1995, so I missed 1994. I've been tempted to go back, but I just haven't found a spot in my watch yet where I feel like I can stop it because of disinterest (surprisingly 1996 didn't push me there). I do remember Frank ending his PI practice to join the police academy in 1995 and there was a throwaway moment where he told Blake and it didn't seem to be a big deal haha. I was always curious about that. Glad they acknowledged Hamp's birthday. I don't know if the actor was not interested in being used more or what was going on behind the scenes, but I always thought there was a missed opportunity for Hamp/Marcus to do more with their sax playing and mentorship.

Being a Holly/Roger fan, which only started from early 1995, I think it came down to Roger orchestrating his car crash, faking his death, and then "miraciously surviving". She saw through his BS, and she was just starting out with Fletcher full-time, so she built a wall up. It didn't help that when McTavish took over, she only gave Holly like 20 episodes in a ~1.5 year time period. She clearly had zero interest in Holly and/or Fletcher and wanted to focus on Roger/Dinah/Hart instead. Lost opportunties.

He was such a handsome guy back then, and the scruff is even better. The title of it says 1998, which is surprising because in the interview he gave in more recent times, he said he wanted to quit the industry and find God (something to that effect), so I'm surprised only 2 years later from leaving GL, he got back in front of the camera. He could have kept Brent going in 1996 and made GL so much better that year!

The Sheila Ducksworth episode was great. Sheila seems like a genuinly nice lady. I love that it was ~20 minutes longer than the last two episodes!

I also love love love Budig. I want to be her friend, I think she and I would get along so well. I like Rikaart too, and I love their friendship, but sometimes he rags on her a little too much where it becomes cringe. It's cute in smaller doses. I finally watched the Deidre Hall episode. Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but it seemed like it was a chore for her that she didn't want to do, which took me out of the interview. Of course she loves Rikaart, but her overall demeanor and even her 'joke' at the end that she won't be back just didn't sit well with me. You could also tell she didn't like talking about how wacky DAYS can be. She didn't answer that 'most wacky storyline' question when both RB and GR asked. She brushed off the obvious answer of her possession/excorcism, but clearly she didn't want to give an answer or talk about it. She does look great for her age though and I'll forever love Marlena Evans.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I’m up to April 21, 1997. March 31 is the first day we have new head writers credited at the end: James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten! Reva truly believes Annie is her long lost sister, so instead of telling anyone, she decides to lie to Josh and tell him her sister (Dani) is likely dead and she’s stopping her search. He is shocked and doesn’t think she should stop looking so quickly. Reva then ends it with Josh and gives him no hope of getting back together. Josh uses Billy to get Reva to reconsider, but it doesn’t help. I will say, Reva and Billy do have some good chemistry haha. Reva then breaks down and tells Annie she is her sister, which Annie is egging on through her elaborate plan, but pretends to break down and feign shock. Reva has sympathized so much with Annie now and feels bad for her, which is odd for Reva and almost has neutered her (which annoys me). She’s willing to put Sarah’s wishes above her own kids, because she’s threatening to leave Springfield again if Josh doesn’t leave her alone (which annoys me). Annie is doing a great job of milking her ‘loss’ of never having Sarah as a mother like Reva did LOL. But, then wow, after a very awkward lamaze class, Josh finally mans up and tells Annie he’s no longer in love with her, which breaks Annie down. I can see her spiraling now even more going forward, as she internally says “I’m going to kill you, Reva Shayne!”. Cooper was kidnapped in the diner when Buzz and Eleni had their backs turned. This new diner set is truly awful. Anyway, it ends up being Jeffrey who takes him, so Jenna would be upset with Buzz, Jeffrey can be the hero who ‘saves’ Cooper, and Jenna will go back to him. Jenna professes her love to Buzz, but says she can’t be with him because Jeffrey is threatening her based on their recent jewelry heists. Jeffrey starts to take it further by assaulting her and holding her against her will. Frank is helping Buzz get to Jenna for now. While Jenna makes Buzz more tolerable for me, and while I actually like them as a couple, this storyline overall is pretty repetitive and boring. Hmm, I’m not sure I really buy Amanda/Roger as a romantic couple, which is where they seem to be going. Amanda originally wanted to drop the wedding charade once they got the truth about her parentage and ownership, but now she seems to have feelings for him and is flirting with him. Meanwhile, I think Roger still has feelings for Holly and I’m happy with that. He even bought Meg a present, which was sweet. Roger visits Vanessa in Lucerne again and realizes she now has her eyesight back. He gives her an update on everyone in Springfield, to include Billy being out of prison, and she is grateful to him for the visit. These were very sweet scenes. Vanessa then has a daydream where she’s packing up to go home and Matt walks in and they have a reunion/kiss. I didn’t love that, because it would be more impactful to see the reunion later, when it’s real. Especially since she ‘died’ 8 long months ago. Vanessa is then given a computer and microphone to start journaling and writing family members letters, while Dinah pushes Matt to try using a computer to find partners through chat rooms. Cheese alert: Vanessa then looks at the computer with the Internet icon and says “My gosh, I could talk to anyone in the whole wide world with that thing, anywhere!”. LOL - watching this in 2025 is so funny to me, and clearly the foreshadowing with Matt/Vanessa finding each other online (assuming). Of course, days later, they both enter an empty Poetry chatroom where it’s only the two of them, out of everyone in the world that could be online in a chatroom LOL. April 14 - we have a new character, Michael Burke, who is now Vanessa’s physical therapist in Lucerne. I can’t help but to think this is just Zachary’s replacement, as it relates to being Vanessa’s confidant and guide. Another young, handsome man. Maeve Kinkead is also back on contract and appears in the closing credits again - yay! Anyway, Matt gives Bill an early graduation gift, which was Henry’s watch. It was a sweet gesture, but then Bill gets upset and thinks it’s a bribe to get him to move back into the house. They seem to keep going back and forth with Bill and Matt, and I wish they would just settle on something. Blake/Hart and Dinah/Ross have similar conversations where Blake tries to convince Hart to go back to Dinah, even though the girls aren’t best friends; likewise, Dinah tries to convince Ross to go back to Blake, even though the girls aren’t best friends. The boys seem to lighten their stance and there seems to be a small hope. Ross is softening and tells Blake they can suspend the divorce for now and take things slow. Hart/Dinah eventually kiss. Ugh, I knew this was coming in 1997, but I didn’t think Bridget’s exit would start to happen so quickly. She talks to Ross at Company about potentially leaving Springfield and what the legal ramnifications would be with Peter. She said she feels like she needs a new start, away from Hart, but I’m very curious how they’re going to write this for Peter/Hart and eventually Vanessa when she returns. It just seems like an awful time to get rid of Bridget/Peter and I can’t see Bridget leaving Peter in Springfield. Now they have Billy working at the diner with Buzz as part of his community service, oh boy haha. I’ve also realized that I’ve seen the last of Hamp, since the actor passed away in early Jan 1997. Very sad that the show didn’t even acknowledge his character leaving the show or the actor’s passing.
