I remember reading Finola Hughes was offered or considered for the original cast of Passions, can't recall which role though. I'm sure it's been mentioned before that James Reilly wrote Sheridan Crane with Melissa Reeves in mind for the role.

Maureen Garrett was nominated for supporting actress in 1991, 1992, and 1994. I have no idea how she wasn't nominated in 1993. Looking at the 1991-1994 supporting actress races: 1991: Darlene Conley, Maureen Garrett, Jill Larson, Jess Walton (winner), Kathleen Widdoes 1992: Darlene Conley, Linda Dano, Maureen Garrett, Lynn Herring, Maeve Kinkead (winner) 1993: Kimberlin Brown, Jane Elliot, Jill Larson, Ellen Parker (winner), Tonja Walker 1994: Signy Coleman, Hilary Edson, Maureen Garrett, Susan Haskell (winner), Sharon Wyatt Competition in that category was tough those years.

Y&R: Old Articles
Looking at the 1984-1987 Lead Actor races: 1984: James Mitchell, Larry Bryggman (winner), Joel Crothers, Larkin Malloy, Stuart Damon, Terry Lester 1985: David Canary, James Mitchell, Darnell Williams (winner), Larry Bryggman, Terry Lester 1986: David Canary (winner), Scott Bryce, Larry Bryggman, Robert S. Woods, Nicolas Coster, Terry Lester 1987: Scott Bryce, Larry Bryggman (winner), A Martinez, Eric Braeden, Terry Lester I think Terry should've gotten at least one win in either 1984, 1985, or 1986. As much as I love Terry and Eric, I don't dispute Larry Bryggman's 1987 win since As the World Turns was at the height of the Douglas Marland years (remember they won 3 acting Emmys and best show that year).

Agree. Tracy Scoggins should've been casted as Fallon, and Emma Samms should've been casted as Monica. I wonder who else Aaron Spelling considered for Fallon. I remember reading elsewhere that Susan Dey was a potential choice but I could be wrong.

CBS must have liked John Bolger, for he was one of the judges at Miss USA 1986 (2:25): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6ZTK9Ib8y8 Also on the judging panel is John Callahan, who was on Falcon Crest at the time (1:14). BTW, this is the Miss USA competition where Academy Award winner Halle Berry finished as 1st RU.

Despite dominating the Soap Opera Digest awards in the 1980s and 1990s, Days does not seem to do as well at the Daytime Emmys. Beverlee McKinsey did have 4 consecutive nominations (1977-1980) for Another World, but I agree she should've won at least once in the early 1990s for her work on Guiding Light. Looking back at the 1991-1993 Lead Actress races: 1991 - Julia Barr, Jeanne Cooper, Elizabeth Hubbard, Finola Hughes (winner), Susan Lucci 1992 - Jeanne Cooper, Elizabeth Hubbard, Susan Lucci, Erika Slezak (winner), Jessica Tuck 1993 - Julia Barr, Linda Dano (winner), Ellen Dolan, Maeve Kinkead, Susan Lucci I think Beverlee could've easily beat any of the nominees there.

Janet Jackson Appreciation Thread
I couldn't find one so I decided to start one. Yesterday (September 19) marked the 25th anniversary of the release of Rhythm Nation 1814. Although it was Janet Jackson's 4th solo album and her prior album Control is considered her breakthrough album by most music fans, I think Rhythm Nation 1814 is the album that cemented Janet Jackson as a global music icon. Looking back at Janet Jackson's biggest hits on the Billboard Hot 100 #1s When I Think of You (1986) Miss You Much (1989) Escapade (1990) Black Cat (1990) Love Will Never Do (Without You) (1991) That's the Way Love Goes (1993) Again (1993) Together Again (1997) Doesn't Really Matter (2000) All For You (2001) Top 5s What Have You Done For Me Lately (1986, #4) Nasty (1986, #3) Control (1986, #5) Let's Wait A While (1987, #2) Rhythm Nation (1989, #2) Alright (1990, #4) Come Back to Me (1990, #2) If (1993, #4) Any Time, Any Place (1994, #2) Runaway (1995, #3) I Get Lonely (1998, #3) Someone to Call My Lover (2001, #3) Top 10s Because of Love (1994, #10) You Want This (1994, #8) 1986-1994 were the peak years; the three best albums (Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet.) and the bulk of the top 10 hits all released then.

Passions Discussion Thread
15 years ago today (July 5) was the premiere of Passions. NBC aired Passions in the timeslot previously occupied by Another World, which had ended it`s 35 year run 10 days earlier. The break in between the end of Another World and the premiere of Passions was due to NBC`s coverage of Wimbledon.
