  1. I hope it is revealed that Valentin has been paying the facility’s to keep Lulu in a coma. Make Valentin a true villain but also keep him human by continuing to show his love for Anna, Nina, Charlotte and Alexis.
  2. It is pretty simple Donna. He wanted to end the story and get rid of Jane Eliott. There could have been many reasons for his thinking. That one decision does not negate how successful he was at GL.
  3. Without a doubt Allen Potter was a significant part of the success of the period.
  4. After Harding Lemay left there were 3 writing regimes that I thought were underrated. - L. Virginia Browne: December 1980 - November 1981 - Dorothy Ann Purser & Robert Soderberg: November 1982 - February 1984 - Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin: March 1984 - January 1985
  5. I’m glad you found this! Hopefully it will clear up the debate about it back in the thread.
  6. There was a time I wanted Jason to get his Quartermaine memories back and be conflicted. I have accepted that is unlikely to happen. I do want his sons Danny and Jake to connect with the Quartermaine family, change their last name to Quartermaine and have a complicated rivalry with each other. As long as they are not written as the purely good brother and purely bad brother.
  7. I recently watched a few of Sheri Anderson's episodes from 1988. She wrote great scenes between Nicole and Liz where they bonded. Liz was lonely but not pathetic and it was the beginning of Liz investing in Nicole's company.
  8. I really enjoy your posts Mona. Please keep them coming!!
  9. I know it has only been a few days but I never thought I would see such a noticeable improvement in the writing on any of the soaps that are left.
  10. Was it ever explained how Liz went from being a wealthy widow to Mac's secretary? I loved Liz's scenes at the Cory complex but it never made sense from what I read about Audra Lindley's version of Liz for her to be working.
  11. It was Jim and Mary's house. Liz moved in after Jim died. I was very disappointed when the gave Liz a home again when Russ and Olivia arrived in 1989 but it was a different set. I love the continuity of sets. You can refresh them but a least keep them recognizable.
  12. I like the Ashford family and hope they continue to build it up. That said I am fine with Marshall being a supporting recurring character. There are other actors who should be on contact - Kin Shriner, Lynn Herring and the teens to start with.
  13. Pre-2004 Heather was neurotic, scheming, self destructive, jealous, somewhat dangerous but she was not a psychopathic lunatic. I am fine with Mulcahey & Korte correcting the mess previous writers going all the way back to Guza and Pratt made of the character. However, it would not my first choice of things they need to fix and as much as Alley Mills is killing it I wish Robin Mattson was who we were seeing on our screens. If Mattson was back I would be happy to have Heather on full time but for me Mills is only needed for story arcs. I always give new headwriters 6 months to turn a show around. They need to wrap up stories, are dealing with contracts, etc. I am hopeful I will start to see a show I recognize and enjoy even if I do not love every story and character. My biggest hope is the hospital becomes the centre of the show again. Bring on the offspring of legacy characters and have them work there - Rick Webber, Jr, Thomas Hardy, Jr, Maya Ward and Lucas Jones to begin with. I would also love to see Serena Baldwin, Dillon Quatermaine, Lucky Spencer, Lulu Spencer and eventually a group of interns that includes Jossyln Jacks, Cameron Webber and Emma Scorpio-Drake. Give Jane Eliot whatever she wants to stick around and keep using what remains of the vets from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
  14. I really hope the launch of The Gates is not rushed. Give MVJ time to flesh out the bible and character bios. Take time to build a quality behind the scenes team with a combination of fresh talent and those who know how soaps work. And cast the best and most suitable actors. This is very exciting!
  15. Hell on wheels Sydney DiMera and bad boy Tyler Kiriakis.
  16. I agree. If L. Virginia Browne has a remained as head writer and they got the casting of Alice correct I think he had the potential to be a long time lead on the show.
  17. Ok thanks for clarifying!! All good! 😀
  18. Donna is this you? I enjoy chatting with you but your response here is unnecessarily aggressive.
  19. Apparently it was unintentional.
  20. I need to reread Eight Years in Another World and Lemay's We Love Soaps interview. I remember him saying in his book something about meeting Dwyer in a restaurant and getting there early so he could purposely sit in her favourite seat. I may have the specifics wrong but I remember thinking how gross it was.
  21. Yes to all of the above!
  22. I have mixed feelings about Rauch returning. There is no doubt he could be a brilliant producer but during his last 4 years the show was in some ways a mess. Of course the writing was a big part of the problem but casting was also an issue (i.e. Alice #3, 4 & 5). I do think we would have seen the return of some favourite actors in the final years if Rauch have been there and Victoria Wyndham would most definitely have been front and centre again. Actually as I type this he would have been a hell of a lot better than Charlotte Savitz so the show would have possibly had lasted a few more years longer.
  23. I think Lemay may have had a distaste for “soap” actors like Courtney and Dwyer and had respect for the actors who came from movies like Marlowe & Ford and those from theatre like Watson, Wyndham & McKinsey.
