She can always go back to GH.  It has glaring Lois hasn't been around all this time.  I do have my concerns about Lois as a character in 2022 because she always seem like the perfect character at the perfect time in the 90's, but GH doesn't care about any of that.

For sure! I’m lowkey curious to see how Rena Sofer and Amanda Setton would be like on screen as mother and daughter. Also, Lois works as a go-to for Sonny and Olivia (and with the latter now married to Lois’s ex, that could also make for some organic drama).

By mid-1987 only Wyndham, Watson, Ford, and Dano had been with the show for more than a year or so.  And only Constance Ford had been there longer than Victoria Wyndham. I am not sure whether Wyndham and Watson had credits above Ford simply because they had leading roles and Ada was more supporting, or if it is possible that Ford was not on contract at some points during her tenure. Contract actors were always listed above day players.

The only special credit I can think of from the mid-1980s onward is that Denise Alexander was put at the end of the credits as "and Denise Alexander as Mary McKinnon".

Hadn’t Stephen Schnetzer been on the show for a few years by that stage as well?

  3. I grew up as a kid in Australia in the 80s and 90s watching Neighbours almost religiously. The back-to-back Neighbours/H&A hour was a staple in many Australian households for decades. I hadn’t watched Neighbours regularly since around the mid-2000s, but seeing the final episode was just heart-wrenching.

And I echo what a few people have said so far - Guy Pearce and Annie Jones stole that show! For an old-timer like me, it was just so joyous seeing those two interact as if it were the 80s again.

Also, as a result of falling down a Neighbours-related rabbit hole on YouTube, I discovered that someone posted THE WHOLE FIRST SEASON FROM 1985! Yes, the original season that showed on Channel 7 in Australia and was then axed before it moved to Channel 10 the following year.

One of the highlights - watching the Kim Taylor storyline (yes, as in David and Leo’s mother Kim Taylor).

Episode 1 is here below. The same channel has all the others following:

All I remember is what she said after he apologized to her on TNG was that she couldn't help but feel sorry for him to Raditch before going back inside the school. But I don't recall her mentioning it again during her stints between seasons 1 and 2. Nonetheless, Wheels did get to make up with Snake during Season 3 when Snake was going through his cancer battle.

Another long-running story was that Spike's friend Liz, who was pro-life, later became a midwife on TNG and delivered Jack in Season 3.

Yeah that’s the scene I was thinking of with Wheels and Lucy. It kinda irked me when the others were having their pre-reunion chat and Lucy was saying that Wheels got off “scot free”, and I was like “hang on, the guy did his sentence, spent 10 years in prison for drink driving and manslaughter, and has to live with the consequences for the rest of his life”. Yes Lucy had years of rehab to get her back to where she was, but it wasn’t as though she didn’t make a conscious decision to get in the car with him (I know she was angry with Caitlin at the time for accepting Joey’s proposal, pre-revelation of his affair with Tessa).

I am also glad that Wheels and Snake did patch things up - I know they were on not-so-good terms around the time of School’s Out, so was nice to see them reconnect in TNG.

  5. A random question… I know that Wheels apologised to Lucy early on in TNG for the car accident that happened in School’s Out, and at the time, Lucy still had a lot of anger towards him. Did she eventually forgive him for what happened?

I'm a Sean/Emma fan so Imma just gonna go :)

NINA!!!! Oh, Katherine Pierce...gone but not forgotten. Yes, I love it started so many careers for actors and actresses (Stacy Feaber was just on SUPERMAN AND LOIS all last season for example as Head Henchwoman). Drake is a mixed bag for me because for the longest he never seem to want to acknowledge where he came from. But he dropped the I'M UPSET video which is basically a Degrassi Reunion video, barring two people, and all has been forgetten. Also worth a watch since you are caught up enough to get all the references and see how so many of them look now...well...then now. lol.

Firstly, I loved Sean and Emma as well - they were just so good! I don’t know what the deal was with Daniel Clark, but it is a shame he couldn’t stick around longer term - there’s a lot more mileage the writers could have done with that story.

As much as some people found Ellie annoying, I did love Stacey Feaber’s portrayal, particularly as she gained enough confidence to finally break away from Jesse, who quite frankly was treating her like s***. Yes she did not handle some things the right way (the whole shaming Caitlin in public, for example). And I also like how they maintained her crush on Craig throughout the seasons - again, long-term writing excellence here.

I wonder how many people watching young Spinner in Season 1 would have ever thought he would turn out to be the father figure quasi moral compass of later seasons - his character development was mind-blowingly incredible.

Speaking of Spinner, having Shane Kippel front and centre with Drake in the I’m Upset video was top notch! And yes, totally awesome to see how they all looked in 2018! That was a smart move by Drake.

  7. One thing I will say about the first 4-5 seasons (at least) of DTNG… their long-term story projections and character development were *gold*. Daytime soaps could learn a s***load from them.

Craig’s bipolar is a prime example. Major props to Jake Epstein for playing it so obviously in hindsight even though we didn’t know at the time that he had it.

Paige and Alex should have been endgame - they just *got* each other. Maybe in another universe they do end up back together. I hate how they just about obliterated all of Paige’s character growth in the Hollywood movie, especially when she slapped Marco 😢. Yes she regretted it afterwards and tried to patch things up, but man she regressed in such a short time!

I just watched the Manhattan movie, and as much as people pay out Emma and Spinner, it kinda does make sense that sometimes love can be spontaneous. I could just imagine a longer-term storyline where Sean comes back from the Armed Forces and a Sean/Emma/Spinner triangle ensues (pure soapy goodness). Throw in Jane for good measure, and it’s a quadrangle that would last for *years*.

Jay & Manny - ❤️❤️❤️. The one couple that shouldn’t have worked, but did. The way Jay helps to get Manny back on track in the Hollywood movie - you can see just how much he had changed for the better. And I will *always* love how he managed to salvage her Smithdale application.

Holly J’s character redemption through the seasons is also something to behold. I always skipped her scenes at the beginning because she was just downright horrible, but somehow she plausibly became a heroine later in her run. Again, the writing was solid for her.

But the one thing I did not even realise about the long-term impact of Degrassi TNG - it launched the careers of both Drake and Nina Dobrev! It didn’t click until a couple of seasons in that Jimmy was Drake!! And also when Nina started playing Mia, I was like “where have I seen her before?”. And then the penny dropped on that too.

Like I said… many many thoughts!

  8. OMG I love that there is a thread for Degrassi TNG! I literally just discovered this a few weeks ago (after having grown up as a kid watching the previous Degrassi series (KODS, DJH, DH)), and have already managed to watch my way through the first nine seasons. I have many many thoughts!

I also like the friendship groups the show has. It's nice to see all of these characters interact instead of being stuck in just their romantic pairing. I really like Brit/Maxie/Lisel/Nina as a friend group. Joss/Trina/Cam are ok too. Spencer can lick rocks after the way he talked to Brit.

Yes! I haven’t been able to watch as much as I’ve wanted to in recent times (especially since my fave YT channel with updates got pulled), but I’ve said for ages that they needed to explore the Obrecht/West family dynamics more (particularly Britt and Nina being first cousins, with Liesl as the surviving Orbrecht/West sibling and “matriarch”), and it sounds like they’re finally doing that. It also gives Nina another reason to be in Port Charles apart from the Carly/Sonny stuff.

  10. Being Aussie myself, I’m really happy for Sheldon getting through. My favourite (dear Cornelia 🇸🇪) is also through for tonight. But I’m also really excited for Sam Ryder 🇬🇧 - the UK may actually be about to get its first victory in 25 years tonight (and incidentally tie with Sweden for 6 victories each).

Turin is buzzing right now, and it all comes to a head tonight!!

No, I'm pretty sure it's 50/50 between juryvoting and televoting in the semi-finals as well as in the big final.

Indeed it is! I’m actually in Turin itself this week for the contest, and have been going to the jury shows where the national juries make their points selections (although we won’t know how they voted for the semis until after the contest has ended).

How the Swiss entry managed to qualify for the final is a mystery to me.  It was one of the worst entries last night, together with the entry from Albania,

Disclaimer: Switzerland is in my personal top 10 this year, so I’m actually really happy it managed to get through. It would have resonated really strongly with the juries, and on stage the song is magic (and I say this having watched it live at the jury show on Monday night).

I will say this though - the second semi final is a LOT stronger than the first in terms of performances. The jury show last night was really top-notch, and the live show tonight is going to be a bloodbath in terms of the voting.

Another note - the Big 5 are *really* bringing it this year!
