That's what I was wondering. I'm sure for different reasons though. To me it sounds like they were spending billions and not making much progress. Not sure why any private company would keep going down that rabbit hole. We can hope other companies have more promising research. Really the government should be funding way more research in all areas, but with Republicans in charge I won't hold my breadth.

I'm glad it doesn't apply to 45. I want to see exactly what's going on in that sick mind.

No one should have to. These greedy f*ckers. I need them to get the boot in in November.

Good for him. One of the scariest things about Trump's administration is how few people are taking a stand against him. There are some, but far too many people are going along to get along with this would be fascist. All my life I've been hearing that we must learn from history, but so many just haven't. It's terrifying. The biggest disappointment to me is former history professor Ben Sasse. He knows how dangerous 45 and his ilk are and he still stays silent.

Yes, I think it matters. This kind of nationalism is a disease that can spread. I like to believe that people are starting to see through 45, but I always find comments like the ones he made coming from any leader as dangerous. We cannot be rid of this evil man soon enough.

Poor Jim Acosta. He was so embarrassed having to quote 45. Then when he said something along the lines of "This president seems to harbor racist views of people of color from other countries". He was so uncomfortable saying that, while many of us are there thinking "No $hit! Not just other countries either". It still stuns me that we have an open racist in the white house. Some of them like to have it both ways. They distance themselves a little and then vote for his policies.

45 keeps making America proud. At least it will be amusing to watch the Republicans try to back away from this statement.

Damn right. Both of the guys in this story are highly unlikable to me. They may be democrats economically, but not socially. Burns thinks all Muslims are terrorists. I just don't agree that we should coddle that kind of ignorance. We've done enough of that as a nation and we are paying the price as we speak.

I thought the whole point was the Burns was a Democrat? That's why Goodin said he doesn't make a point of the 10% of things he and Burns disagree on. The premise of the story seems to be that we should be tolerating their intolerance to get a bigger base. I don't agree with that at all, but that's what I got from it.

Me too. It's wrong on so many levels. Not only do these people have to work their asses of for a pittance, but they have to deal with being shamed by the jackasses among us. Plus corporations are using tax payer money to subsidize their inadequate pay.

^ It annoys me that he's getting more attention. If they do this interview then some of his victims should be interviewed before and after him.

^ I don't think we have any better chance at stemming the tide of retail job losses than we do manufacturing. Maybe even less chance. It's one thing to manipulate a market that is largely business to business with tax incentives or penalties. Not that I think that will work long term, but it's relatively straight forward. On the other hand, how do you make people shop brick and mortar when it's less convenient and more expensive? Making sure Amazon had to collect state sales tax was a step in the right direction, I guess. Still, does it really make it any more likely people will head to the mall? I can also see why some people think coal and manufacturing jobs are more worthy of saving. Not that I agree in the case of coal, but at least those jobs pay a living wage with benefits. The fall of retail comes with some big problems that go beyond job loss though, there's no denying that.

To be blunt, they can all go f*ck themselves. Yeah, I have a hard time believing any of these people around him didn't know about the rumors. His name came up continually on Blind Gossip whenever there was a blind item about casting couches or the like. I didn't even really know who he was, but I knew that his name was out there as an abuser.

Someone as connected as Oprah probably did know. Does that really make it her responsibility to out him when so many other people knew who were closer to the situation?

Maybe the nursing agency should have some balls and stop sending these young women to the slaughter? He's 95 years old, someone in his life needs to tell him no and get him a male nurse.

Plus why give up your freedom and subject yourself to all that scrutiny? There are so many reasons for a person in her position not to though. I'd be damned if I'd put up with people's bullsh*t if I were her. Also, would she divest herself of her empire? I wonder if one of 45's lasting legacies is that presidents will no longer feel the need to rid themselves of all those conflicts of interest.

I'll have to agree with you there. If we are going to submit to rule by oligarch, it may as well be Oprah. At least we can be sure she's not a psychopath.

Mostly I agree with you, but HRC wasn't just any white woman. She is the subject of a very effective, decades long hit job by the right. Like you I don't want another celebrity/billionaire. This cannot be the new normal, although I fear that it is. It's really stunning to hear people say the same things that qualified Trump qualifies Oprah. Just because you can make a ton of money does not mean you are qualified to run the government. If Trump didn't teach us that lesson I guess we just can't be taught.

April Ryan was on CNN earlier saying that we've entered an age where it's not enough to be a politician. Americans now want a rock star and the entertainment that comes from that. Jesus help us if that's true. I can't begin to predict how much support Oprah would have. She has that certain something and as far as I can see white women love her. I even like her, even though I hate the kind of lifestyle guru thing she has represented at times. "Live your best life". I have no patience with that kind of thing. That said, I would surely take her over the likes of Mark Cuban. Still, it's deeply disturbing to me that we are on the edge of being directly ruled by one billionaire after the next. I question the empathy of any human being with a billion dollars. Seriously ask yourself if you could feel comfortable having a billion dollars when there are children starving to death. I think at this point she has no idea how real people live. Remember that road trip she did?

I'm not sure what to think about all this talk of Oprah being our next president. Part of me balks at another unqualified billionaire being elected due to a cult of personality. Another part of me thinks it would be a good thing to break the barrier of a black women becoming president. Anything is better than another four years of Trump.
