  1. Oh yeah. The one who said she could now drop the democrat in front of socialist. 🙄 How helpful at a time when we need people to wake up and strengthen the social safety net. In reality I suppose it's too late and there is going to be a lot of pain for many people. I really feel bad for older millennials. They were screwed when they graduated and they are about to be screwed again. I guess you could say that is true of everyone who was around during the last economic crisis, but that generation had a hard time even getting their footing and here we go again.
  2. This is the kind of thing that drives me nuts, it's so counter productive. The woman leaves a living, warmly dressed baby on a doorstep where she knew people were at home and they charge her and put her in jail.Oh, and shame her before the community of course. Now let's be surprised and outraged when the next one ends up in a dumpster. Yes, she should have left the baby at a hospital, but she probably didn't even know that was an option. https://www.omaha.com/news/crime/omaha-woman-accused-of-leaving-newborn-baby-on-porch-is-charged-with-two-misdemeanors/article_f80c5dd9-bbbb-58e5-ae93-6a2b82f52f7c.html
  3. I have to admit I don't even know who most of his surrogates are (AOC and Susan Sarandon excepted). I haven't seen cable news in forever. I actually miss it during election time because I'm interested in politics, but not enough to seek it out the way I would have to now. I also tuned out of the primary pretty early on for the sake of my sanity. I'm just glad he actually stepped aside this early on. I feared it would drag out to the bitter end again. I wish we could wrap Biden and RBG in a protective life force shield right now. I feel wrong for saying that because I know their lives are more than politics, but damn. Please let them stay safe for the sake of the greater good.
  4. He had an incredibly toxic online army. I've never believed that Bernie is as bad as Trump, but I do believe his hard core followers are as bad as the MEGAs. They hurt him much more than helped because reasonable people run from that kind of behavior.
  5. This thread is so true, but you may as well try to reason with the MAGA's.
  6. Shameless. At least one of them had a conscience, I guess.
  7. WTF? As long as they are not referring to themselves as medical doctors they are not doing anything wrong. Hundreds of years of academic tradition isn't going to change because these yahoos want it to.
  8. We don't have one in NE either, although I haven't left home in about three weeks. There are a bunch of Midwestern states that don't. It's nuts!
  9. ^ She's right. It's not on Asian Americans to prove anything and trying to do so will not work. You can't fix stupid. Maybe we can put it in jail though with harsher penalties for hate based harassment. Maybe putting more people in jail isn't the answer idk, but there has to be something decent society can do to slow these nitwits down. I want to say I can't believe how insane things are getting with the Trump admin, but that ship has long passed. I do believe it. Putting Kushner in charge sure does put the cherry on the cake though.
  10. I don't see the connection. Marking people safe to get on an airplane is hardly the same as making people wear a star and putting them in cattle cars to concentration camps. Why wouldn't we want to test people before putting them in a highly contagious situation? It's apples and oranges to say the least.
  11. Jim Cramer is Jewish, so I feel pretty confident he wasn't referring to Nazi Germany. He's talking about putting a sticker on people before air travel, after they have tested negative. Apparently there are countries doing that, of course, first you would need a lot of tests, which we don't have. Obviously, he chose his words on live TV poorly, but it's not the same thing at all. Trump is the one who turned down tests from the WHO, which is directly related to the fact that parts of the country are in lock down versus following the South Korea model ( I won't cite China because God alone knows what's really happening there). You bet I blame him for the confusion and delay. If we had been able to test 6 weeks ago we wouldn't be where we are right now, imo.
  12. When you post a link it will say something on the bottom like "paste as plain text instead". Click on that. https://twitter.com/MonaChalabi/status/1240991030008315904?s=20 https://twitter.com/MonaChalabi/status/1240991030008315904?s=20
  13. It will likely be ok. People can only do so much hoarding before the run out of space, especially when it comes to perishables. I find articles like this one comforting: https://www.denverpost.com/2020/03/20/food-supply-chain-groceries-colorado-coronavirus/ Short-terms shocks to the supply chain should correct themselves in the next week or so, said Jack Buffington, an assistant professor of supply chain management at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.
  14. They worked right here in Nebraska against Republican Lee Terry. He refused to stop taking a paycheck during the 2013 shutdown. In stead of being diplomatic, he said "I have a nice house and college to pay for". He got his ass handed to him by Matt Ashford (D) because of that. The ads with that quote were on all the time and you bet it pissed people off. Next election Matt Ashford lost to the jackass Don Bacon (R). Refusing to take responsibility when things go to hell isn't something people will forget. His base will follow him into hell, but there aren't enough of them (please God) to save him now.
  15. I hope every single person who is guilty of this pays a steep price. I'll wait for the investigations (or at least more info) to cast stones. If it is true though, I hope they go to jail, pay fines and are shunned by decent society (all very unlikely, I know).
  16. She's talking nonsense. What she really means is the she doesn't GAF about anyone else and she just wants to pretend everything is normal because that's what's easy. Last night the number of infected was 200,000 worldwide. It is now nearly 250,000. God alone knows the real number since testing isn't happening the way it should.
  17. Here's some mostly good news in terms of the food supply chain. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/18/supply-chain-experts-foods-that-could-be-less-available-in-pandemic.html
  18. That's what I think too. My 50 year old neighbors invited us to a St.Patrick's day party last night. I couldn't believe it. They are teachers and should know better. It's going to take a few more weeks for people to realize that if the worst thing that happens to them is missing a party or social gathering they are going to be lucky indeed. Not to be a hypocrite. I was sad that my son won't get to have a 5th birthday party with his friends and that he can't go to preschool anymore, but we have to put these things in perspective. Many people cannot or will not do that until death is staring them in the face. All you have to do is check out sites like this to see what we are in for. The rate of infection is horrific. https://ncov2019.live/data
  19. Yeah, that is completely disgusting. Don't these people love their parents and grandparents?
  20. This was a really good insight, thank you. Meanwhile it wasn't long before preschool and everything else was shut down here (Omaha) making my guilt irrelevant.
  21. It wasn't the same level of threat as you probably remember or don't remember because it wasn't like this. Believe me 20 years from now we are all going to remember Corona. Granted Trump is a useless fool who is making things much worse, but this was going to hit us hard even with someone better in charge. Most of Europe has better leaders and they are pretty f*cked at the moment too. That's thanks to the Chinese government who spent weeks arresting doctors in an effort to suppress the truth.
  22. It was nowhere near as bad as this.
  23. I wonder if he should have gone with a black man though. It's really sad that we even have to have discussions like this. With any luck he will win and a woman will finally get into that VP spot.
  24. I think the cat has been out of the bag for a couple of weeks, but who knows? Even now we can slow the spread and try to mitigate the deluge that hospitals will face at any one time, if we stay inside as much as possible. The strange thing is that I feel incredibly guilty for all of the commitments I've broken over this last week. It's really irrational, but I feel deeply guilty about not attending a child's birthday Saturday that we had RSVP's to, cancelling play dates, breaking dinner plans with friends and taking my child out of preschool. All insignificant things considering what we are facing. I wonder if some other people are feeling that too and their emotions are overriding common sense and expert advice. As to hoarding it gives people a sense of control and helps calm us down. I've figured out a way to do it that doesn't hurt people, which is I buy $10 worth of canned goods and then donate it to the food bank. I feel like I'm doing something, it eases my anxiety, but I'm not keeping the food to myself in the basement. 1) I never claimed to be sane. 2) Pandemics bring out the nut in people. At least I'm not fighting people for toilet paper and blaming random Asian people for a disease that is no one's fault.
