  1. I'm sick of all the westerns in blocks. I can't believe they are getting rid of Perry Mason in the daytime for Matlock. WGN and INSP run that show in the freaking ground.

I also notice anytime there is a network that runs old shows, they always pick up Bonanza. I'm getting tired of it over and over on multiple networks. There are about 5 running it currently.

  2. If the show was owned till 1969 by American Home Products, did those episodes get stashed somewhere or did they get wiped by the network when they took control ? I would love to see episodes of Marla as the nasty Belle. I can picture how great she was on the show.

Nicolas Coster has been on just about every soap there ever was.

I wonder how Christina Crawford felt about playing a character with the same name as her much despised mother ?

  3. Wow thanks for all the research you put into that. Warner Brother star of the 50's/60's Troy Donahue also appeared on the Patty Duke show and later appeared on Secret Storm.

Renee Jarrett had a short lived early 70's series called "Nancy" where she played the presidents daughter. Eddie Applegate who played Patty's boyfriend on her sitcom was a co-star of that. They said pressure from the Nixon administration put a end to the series.

  4. I would like to see that. I wonder if he just stood there reading from the page or tried to act it out ?

I remember Mary Stuart of SFT said they were live when an actress had a mental breakdown and stopped speaking. She read the other woman's lines and hers.

On Y&R Jeanne Cooper said when they did the scene where Jill was telling Kay about her being pregnant by Phillip, Brenda forgot her lines and Jeanne tried to subtly feed it to her and she still didn't get it, Jeanne then said " Let me guess, your pregnant with my husbands child" I don't know if that was something they re-shot or if it was left in. One viewer said they remember Jamie Lyn Bauer(Lorie Brooks) kissing a man on the show and a big string of spit came out when they parted and it remained there for several minutes before she wiped it away. Supposedly William Gray Espy (Snapper) blurted out live on the air while climbing the Brooks staircase " God, what ugly wallpaper"

On AW Joe Gallison (Bill) fell asleep in his dressing room and they tried to page him on the intercom. He then woke up and rushed to the set groggy while live.

On ATWT Helen Wagner (Nancy) said a stove went haywire and the timer kept buzzing and someone had to sneak and unplug it.

  5. I remember an interview with Kate Jackson about her time on Dark Shadows and she talked about live to tape. She said if they had to reshoot which was rare if ever, they had to wait so many hours to get the live tape feed again.

Jeanne Cooper talked about live to tape on Y&R and she said it had to a Major screw up for them to reshoot and they rarely did. In the 1974 episode where Jill phones the Chancellor home, she flubs and say's Mrs. Foster before recovering and then say's Chancellor. Also when Kay goes upstairs with the maid, you can hear the music fade out and a faint click and another background track starts playing as she's looking at the living room.

In a 1973 clip of Another World of Steve and Alice, you can hear faint clicking of someone off stage adjusting a light or something.

I wonder if anyone ever got sick with diarrhea or vomited live on the air on a soap ?

  6. It's interesting that Paul O"Keefe was on the show twice as two different characters. O"Keefe is best know as playing Patty Duke's brother Ross on her 60's sitcom. Rita McLaughlin Walter (Carol) played the back of Patty & Cathy's head when they did double takes.

Patty Duke said they shot her sitcom in New York because child labor laws were not as strict as California and they could over work her long hours. Her managers who abused her moved her back to L.A. in the sitcoms final season when she fell in love with a director (who was her first husband) to try to keep them apart.

  7. How long did Richard Thomas play Tom ? In 1969 he did that weird movie "Last Summer" with Barbara Hershey and Catherine Burns. I saw Catherine in a 1969 episode of One Life To Live as Cathy Craig. How long did she play Cathy ? She was nominated and lost the Oscar to Goldie Hawn for Cactus Flower. I read people expected big things of her, but it appears she stayed mostly in TV, before turning to writing. She wrote some episodes of Guiding Light in the 80's.

  8. Personally, I would say yes. I'm pretty sure that is her.

I think it is her too. I paused the video when they show a closeup of her in the nuns habit and pulled a 60's AW photo up and put beside it and it looks just like her.

  9. Liz's children could have driven storylines for years and years. I always thought that Carol Roux was dismissed from Somerset, but read recently she wanted out after a few months. Didn't she leave New York and settle in California ? I wonder why she didn't act after 1970 ?

She seems to be a bit eccentric. I remember hearing an interview with her several years ago on the now defunct world of soap themes. She mentioned someone at Somerset talking disrespectful to her and mentioned how she never realized just how good looking Joe Gallison was till years later looking back. She also laughed about Audra Lindley and how she was always smoking blowing it at her in scenes.

  10. If you ever watch an interview with someone who has been in TV a long time as an actor, producer etc..., they will usually bring up the name Fred Silverman with mostly negative comments about him. He was the reason of the late 60's/ early 70's rural purge of CBS. He cancelled Beverly Hillbillies, Mayberry RFD, Petticoat Junction, Hee Haw, and Green Acres and replaced them with Mary Tyler Moore, All In The Family, Maude. He said only squares, country hicks and old people cared about those shows and wanted a more sophisticated audience.

  11. After re-watching the 1968 episodes of Walter & Lenore's wedding, I wondered why they killed off Lee Randolph ? In the 1969 Barbara Rodell interview posted she said she was upset when that happened. Shortly after she got Secret Storm.

In the wedding episodes everyone was happy that she was going to be the next bride by marrying Ada's brother. Lenore also wanted to make sure she caught the bouquet. Lee was clearly not excited and kept saying she wanted something else ? What's the story behind all that ?

  12. That's interesting about tapes being sent to other countries. I hope someone out there uncovers it.

I read that Days and Y&R have intact runs. Some episodes of Days may be in b&w kinescope format only.

I think Bill Bell and Kay Alden made sure Y&R was archived. Kay said in an interview that CBS or somebody was going to toss some stuff and she put a stop to it. I don't know if she meant video, scripts, story outlines or what.

  13. I downloaded the DVD from Eddie's AW website that has the classic stuff like Walter & Lenore's 1968 wedding and the 1974 Steve/Alice/Rachel fragments. There are some 1964 episodes, but they have that camera turned sideways at a monitor.

Speaking of Judith Barcroft, I read an online interview she did about 5 years ago. When told that most AW episodes were destroyed, she said she knows for a fact that several of her directors saved episodes, but they have all died. I wonder what their relatives did with that material ?

  14. That would be great if you would ask Jackie's daughter.

I emailed UCLA today about the soap episodes in their collection and asked if they will available at some point to be viewed. The person in charge responded that they have no legal rights to distribute them and the copyright holders would have to give their consent.

Some actors do save their work. Janice Lynde posted clips of her Y&R work as Leslie Brooks not too long ago.
