  1. I have heard that stuff about NAC for awhile now.  No idea if it's true, but it's been a pretty consistent rumor for a few years.  I think MB even alluded to a certain young actor getting a big head (didn't name names) on his you tube show and most everyone thought it was a dig at Chavez.  I do think he's a very talented guy and may hit it big, so good luck to him.

I have no problem with the show waiting to recast Spencer.  I don't have any particular hope Chavez will be back in any long term capacity, but waiting seems right in this situation.

Although, wasn't it portrayed as a coincidence that Konstantin ran into John in Salem? Because at first he was saying how John sounded familiar, and then he recognized his eyes, until finally he put it together that John was the pawn.

Either way, I agree once he figured out who was John turned out to be, he should've dropped flaky Theresa and gone after the prime meat.  John already felt guilty, and he'll do whatever he says under hypnosis.  So, just take a short trip over to Salem Saving and Loan, get a cashier's check and hightail it back to Athens to open a beach club with Lindsay Lohan.

I think you are right about John and Konstantin meeting by accident.  But at this point I feel like Konstantin should have done the research on this.  John isn't exactly a non-public figure.  If you are going full in on elaborate plot where you have to find Theresa Donavon to execute your goals I am going to assume you are capable of googling John Black.  I mean seriously did he just carry that weird taro card around for 40 years hoping he meet Catharina's killer?

I didn't have a problem with the setting for the Dex thing - it's exactly how that kind of course would look lol. It's the montage that is truly silly to me. But hey, it ate up a minute of airtime!

I thought the montage was a bit of a 90's throwback where the show would do some silly montages.  I was just wondering if Dante or Chase could complete that course.

I'm sure there are spoilers, and I don't want any, but I appreciate the building anticipation towards Brook Lynn and Chase's wedding  even if I'm not finding every step exciting. I feel like something Sonny related should be happening whether it will be another attempt on his life or his being arrested. The immediate follow up should be Alexis' hearing about being reinstated. I also imagine that Gregory will probably kick the bucket not long after. All of this is interesting to me so I don't mind waiting as long as they play different angles in the meantime.

Oh boy, remember when Days of our lives did a full on Midol commercial?  I still feel bad for Lindsay Hartley having to recite that dialogue.

I don't love Lois micromanaging this wedding.  It's in character, but I feel like Lois is so much more than that.  I don't think Brook Lynn would even care that much if Sonny wasn't at her wedding, but I do like Sonny/Lois scenes.

She took 3 & she took some more & had them analyzed.

I thought the Sexy Dexy scene was fine.

Yeah, I know she took 3 pills, but I don't know what those 3 pills were.  Again, it probably doesn't matter in the scheme of things so I won't harp on it.  I just don't know why Ava was immediately convinced all Sonny's meds were off from her misusing Sonny's medicine.  And why Sonny keeps his meds in the bathroom that looks like a hallway powder room and not in his own bathroom.

I am no expert on blackmail, but it would seem like the most direct way to go about this would be to extort the actual person that committed the murder.  Not a dead man's family lol.  It's a very intricate plot depending on multiple factors to work when John probably just would have given him the money lol.

If Ava is taking bipolar medication, she should be freaking the hell out: convulsions, hallucinations, whatever.

Oh, definitely.  I am just confused as how Ava got from point A to B here and I suppose it doesn't really matter.  Did she take muscle relaxers/sleeping pills and they didn't work so she tested those?  Or did she just make the leap to test all Sonny's pills?

It still all seems a little muddled between Ron’s writing and the scab writing.

It actually seems a little weird to me that Konstantin was expecting an inheritance from the man who sent someone to kill him but accidentally got his daughter

It seems like Konstantin would have been better off blackmailing rich John instead of this huge elaborate plan to make Alex the heir, bring Theresa in, and count on wooing Maggie.

  8. What's wrong with the outdoor set Dex/Chase were using?  It looks like a parking lot and I am pretty sure it was supposed to be a parking lot lol.  It's more unbelievable that Michael Corinthos knows how to fix a stove, tbh.

I have a hard time believing Abc/Disney/Frank/GH wants to have this large of a cast especially when quite a few bring very little to the table.

So I am unclear still.  Was Ava taking bi-polar medicine not made for her to sleep?  Or did she just get his bi-polar meds analyzed?

I think she'd have to be older because they wouldn't write Victor being with someone under the age of consent.

True, but I think Konstantin said she was only a teenager in dialogue.  He specified her age I just can't remember exactly what he said.  I am pretty certain he said 16, although the actress appears older.  It could always be changed though.

I agree: May Sweeps may be a period where they use it to wrap things up and open the summer months up in prep for fall sweeps. Part of me also feels as if Mulcahey is trying to follow Douglad Marland's rules for writing a soap as much as possible. I don't think a major cast purge will happen... do I think it'll trickle? Yes. But a mass-change? No.

I still think probably 30% of the cast and/or recurring players need to go.  With the emergence of the kids teen scene there are just way too many characters to keep up with.   I don't need people like Brick on my screen.

Frank likes having a bloated cast, so if that doesn’t change, I also think it may be above PM/EK and they just have to “deal” with it. I’ve often heard the hardest part about being a soap opera HW is keeping actor contracts and guarantees in mind, as you have no control over it and it most certainly impacts the show and stories you tell.

I say cut them all and re-hire Vanessa Marcil lol.  I think a bloated cast adds some value as far as Port Charles seeming like a larger town, but there are so many people I don't care at all about, could use a rest, need a reset, etc.

I agree! The main problem, for me, is that Patrick Mulcahey & Elizabeth Korte inherited a mess with shítty storylines; the ones THEY have introduced feel more worthwhile than the ones they're trying to sail with.

To be fair I also watch Days where Paulina is currently radioactive so SpongeBob SquarePants would probably feel more intellectual.  lol

There's a lot of things PM/EK inherited that they have to clean up, but I get the feeling they are at least trying.  I feel like summer is when everything will kick in.  I still really need a cast purge.

Also noted, a side benefit of a small budget is that we were sparred the visual of Paulina on an actual snowplow in that hat.

You know back in the 1980s she'd have been screaming yeehaw on the back of a prop snowplow against a greenscreen.

She's radioactive my friend, she might have busted the snowmobile with her radioactive powers lol  None of it makes sense.

This has been my question since I heard about it. Curious and intriguing.

It looks like 2014 where Vanessa was a guest at NLG's GH fan club weekend event.  That's not to say she hasn't done some events with others, but not at the fan club weekend.

Is Vanessa low key/high key campaigning for her job back?  Don't answer just let me live in carolineg's dream world for a while.

It’s similar to what happened with Gwen.

The way that she’s delivering her lines makes you think that she’s figured out the truth already.

I have never been a Maggie fan, but I have always considered her smart.  I don't think after being married to Victor all these years that she would be that naive.  I also don't consider Maggie a thoughtless person and all these people she cares about telling her about Konstantin being a bad guy would not just fall on deaf ears to her.

re Vanessa at 2024 fanclub weekend,  (Link to post)

When was the last time she did such an event?

I think she's done a few with Mo over the last decade, but I don't know the last one.  It has to have been several years.  I think she was a special guest of Mo's on fanclub weekend maybe 6 or 7 years ago. They are both still pretty friendly so it's not terribly surprising.  Tbh,  I am not the best at recalling fan events because you tend to hear the same stories and info over and over especially with non-current cast member events.

I guess we'll have to disagree here. For me, the correlation is THAT they're both criticized, not what they're criticized for.

With that criticism, women get labels that men don't.

For sure.  My point was I feel like Ingo deserves the criticism while Genie, Vanessa, whoever don't.  So our basic ideas are the same, but I wouldn't defend Genie or Vanessa if they didn't want to get vaxxed back then either.

I like Brenda. I like VM. Issue is she wont do anything longer than a year and then bolts. How can you write long-term when as soon as the story gets gangbusters VM walks.

I don't think it's fair to blame Vanessa for deals GH willingly gives her and for her to leave when it expires.  Do I wish she'd commit longer? Yes.  Has it screwed up long term plans? Yes.  But I can't fault someone for fulfilling their contract and leaving when it is done. She doesn't owe us or GH a lifetime of servitude.  I think every time she left her reasons were valid.

I brought up Ingo in case anyone thought "Well, Ingo has been criticized a lot, so it's not only women who are trashed." To me it doesn't matter that it was a safety thing. The double standard applies because of gender.

Ingo will likely never be back but we don't have these recurring discussions about Ingo's relationship to Frank, or his demands on the set, or about him being difficult. And yes, Steve is an issue, especially since he was able to return with seemingly so little discussion or pushback.

But Ingo's been trashed for way different reasons.  I don't feel it has anything to do with gender.  It's more like he's an awful person.  Not "difficult", "high maintenance", or "controlling" so I don't see the correlation there.

It's like what I always say: you can get away with acting like a diva if you have the goods to back it up.  It's only a problem when your behavior is as shitty as your performance, or vice-versa.

IMHO, GH needs Vanessa/Brenda, because Carly in particular needs Brenda.  In fact, Carly probably needs Brenda more than even Sonny does, because Brenda - again, IMO - is the only character who can fight Carly's fire with fire of her own.  IOW, Brenda brings out the best in Carly.  (Or the worst, depending on how you look at it, lol).

Carly by herself as a lead (anti-)heroine is okay, but Carly and Brenda...?  That, my friends, is like having a license to print money.

Lol.  I have always said watching Carly's head explode was the best part of Brenda's last return.  LW just gave the unhinged portrayal perfectly and VM and LW sparred great together.

That's been the #1 thought running through my mind for the last few dozens of posts, and for every post about Vanessa Marcil. The double standard is so bad that even those of us who KNOW there's a double standard can't fall prey to it anyway.

Those actors you mentioned -- Steve, Mo, Tony -- were NEVER scrutinized in the same way as Vanessa Marcil. There was never the same passion in that discussion, either. Frank's relationship with them was never discussed in the same terms, with the same language.

And no, Ingo isn't proof that there isn't a double standard. If a woman pulled the same crap as Ingo -- then and since -- she would have been pilloried beyond belief.

I am not disagreeing with most of your points especially about Vanessa, but what does Ingo have to do with it?  It wasn't a sexist thing-it was a safety thing.  Steve being allowed back with open arms is more of an issue than Ingo who will mostly likely never be back.

  19. 28 minutes ago, Vee said:

It's no secret she can potentially be high maintenance or eccentric. But she's earned it at GH. And I am inclined to agree about the above. If an actor is powerful enough to advocate for themselves or the character it often turned FV/RC off, unless it was TG or MB where they couldn't fight it due to the network. Look how many times Frank has tried to dump Genie for wanting a contract.

    Me too. Typical Ron tbh.

Yeah, I am definitely not saying Vanessa isn't both those things at all.  I agree she's earned it.  And at the end of the day she might be a little more work, but the upside she brings is worth it.  Maybe Frank doesn't want the headache and that's up to him.  Seeing Vanessa/Brenda as only a vehicle for MB/Sonny's happy ever after does irk me (if true) because Brenda is so much more than that.

And it becomes a double standard when Genie/Vanessa are treated as "difficult", but Steve, Mo, and Tony are just fighting for their characters.
