  1. The recaps honestly don't bother me. It's all the other stuff non-Days related. I actually do have a couple of Days related questions about today though. Is this the first time RC and MA's Jack have ever shared scenes? I don't think they ever were on at the same time. Also, I thought by the time Mike left he was fine with Nancy/Craig. I remember Carrie being fine with them, but she was on longer than RC's Mike.
  2. My opinion obviously doesn't matter at all, but as someone who posts in this thread a lot about Days it is exhausting to read the back and forth and non-show related posts almost daily. It's not hard to scroll or just ignore but it really just clogs up the thread.
  3. I totally agree. I love the use of history as much as the next person, but Ron uses it to make us think he is so clever and respects the shows past. It's like a smokescreen to make his writing seem better because he CARES so much about Days history. I haven't finished the show yet, so it may answer my question, but why didn't Kristen just go directly to John to ask the favor? Why go through a dying, half conscious Marlena? Wouldn't John be more likely to do it for Kristen to save Marlena?
  4. Yeah, it's not a big problem or anything, but it doesn't seem fitting for two people who traveled the world for years and do have lots of money. Julie has said some pretty problematic things especially some racist remarks to Gabi, which is really unnecessary because Gabi was the villian in that situation. I feel like Julie's very valid points get very muddied when sprinkled with insensitive remarks for "comedic" value.
  5. I liked that Julie a lot. Like others have said she was a take charge business women that looked like she had traveled the World on cruises and was used to the finer things, but also had a caring heart. I actually enjoyed her flirtation with Victor and didn't really miss Doug at all (although I am unsure what Bill was doing at the time to prevent him from returning) Exactly. There is a disconnect in her acting and actions, but also her wardrobe and overall style. Obviously, wardrobe and styling is a problem across the board for this show. Julie to me, though, is someone who would be glamorous in her late 70's and 80's. I don't mind Doug/Julie living in the Horton house, but I think Jennifer is much more right for it. Doug/Julie would care about the house, but live in a fancy penthouse/townhome in my mind.
  6. RC really has done SSH/Julie a disservice. I think he writes Doug much better. I am not a Julie historian, but from what I have seen and what I have read Julie was much more sophisticated and glamourous. I loved what I saw of her solo return in the early 90's bedding younger men with her fabulous 90's fashion and hair. I can see Julie as being stuck up or snobby, but racist, bigoted, and a loud shrew? Pass. She is actually the butt of tons of old lady jokes too. Again, Marlena or Maggie would never be spoken about that way. I never thought SSH was an amazing thespian, but I have seen her capably handle material. The Hayes seem happy and that's fantastic, but Julie has become a caricature and it's really a mockery of what Julie should be (or at least what I imagine Julie should be at this age).
  7. Got it. They way Nancy/Mike met up at the end after that whole closure scene with Craig had me wondering lol. I don't......really enjoy Julie at all and that's probably the nicest way to put it. It wasn't always like that. I never had a problem with her until about the last half a decade or so. I just generally don't know what to think of her character.
  8. Everyone pretty much covered what I had to say today. I logically get the reason Nancy was in that cap getting her highlights done (and she wasn't walking around town with it-she was staying with Bonnie at the K mansion). You just would never see Marlena, Kate, or Kayla in a highlight cap at home. Is RC just doing a cameo? Or is he sticking around? Are they setting up him and Nancy if so? Anyhow, this might seem blasphemous, but I don't get what SSH's is going for with her acting choices most days. Her scenes with Leo were cringey. Is it supposed to be funny? Is Julie just a loud, cranky, campy old lady? She is fine in quieter scenes like the first half of the episode, but Leo/Julie is not a fun combo. To be fair, Leo and anyone is not a fun combo, but those two are particularly annoying.
  9. I agree with nearly everything you are saying. Marlena did have some interesting stories outside of John, but most of it ended up dropped. Langan seemed to be determined to make his own supercouples with the teens and the fixation on John/Gina. And at that point just make Zach John's. In the scheme of things it wouldn't have mattered at all. Zach was killed off. It went on so long without much payoff. Jack and Marlena were obviously not Langan's faves at the same time I thought John and Jen weren't painted in very good light either. I don't feel like Hope/Bo acted that out of character (except when Gina obvi). John was so wildly out of character letting Brady speak to Marlena like that in her house, his obsession with Greta/Gina, and just being an all around rage monkey. I don't even want to start on Jen and the Colin Murphy situation lol. I also felt Langan didn't really know what to do with Sami after the Franco murder/execution story ended. Eric, Greta, Austin, etc didn't have any direction either. The show was really at it's peak in budget back then though. Steve Wyman and those freeze frames though.....🙄 In retrospect Langan wasn't the worst about supercouples. Higley clearly hated Marlena and Reily Jack.
  10. Now that you say that I think you are right. I just never considered it an organic choice for Maggie, but I guess it was something for her to do. I don't know if I would consider Eve underrated (not directed at you @victoria foxtonspecifically). Pretty much everyone remembered her/Charlotte Ross even before KDP took over. Nick and April I suppose, but I wasn't big fans of either in rewatch.
  11. If you just started watching in 2000 Maggie was random. In fact, I am not even sure why she had a restaurant. I don't remember that being of an interest to her previously, but I honestly can't recall any jobs Maggie had really. I loved the glamour of those formal restaurants! I never really thought about the practicality of it lol. It does seem a little excessive now to put a suit and ballgown on to go to your local Italian restaurant where you basically are dining with the same people you see everyday, but I wish they'd bring it back. Days always kept changing locales of these fancy restaurants too-The Penthouse Grille, Tuscany, Chez Rouge (Vous?). I know people like that 2000-2002 ere of Days, but I absolutely hated it. So much of the teens and I hated pretty much every story John/Marlena and Bo/Hope got (except the baby switch). So much time spent on Father John/Gina and the baby's father for it to be Bo. I don't think I have ever hated an introduction of a legacy child more than Brady. He's fine now, but I swear he seemed borderline psychotic when he was introduced lol.
  12. Still such a shame it didn't work out to have Karen/Jagger back for Stone's death. I don't find many flaws with that death and how it was portrayed, but it did seem glaring that Stone had no family present, especially since he was close to Jagger/Karen. Sonny even made a point to wonder where his family was when Stone was dying, but I don't remember an actual excuse as to why Jagger/Karen in particular weren't there.
  13. I remember all that. John was openly mean to her before that whole Brady situation blew up. None of the Brady/Marlena issues were Maggie's fault and it's very odd he took it out on her specifically. Sure Maggie's a gossip, but why would John care that much? I thought it was the most random thing as they previously got along perfectly fine. Brady's shooting had nothing to do with Maggie. It was pretty much Marlena/Roman's faults. Maggie's entire restaurant got destroyed because Brady/John were being idiots. John was acting like a complete jerk to a lot of people during that time period though. Anyhow, that's just my opinion. Maggie is annoying and I have no problem with people yelling at her, I just felt John's anger really was a strange development and out of character considering the two characters non-problematic history for the previous 20 years.
  14. You aren't wrong. I do remember Maggie being around a bit in Aremid sharing scenes with Marlena and later in the decade and in the early 2000's they were close when Maggie had her restaurant. Laura clearly became the de facto BFF for Marlena in the 90's. The difference then is that Marlena/Maggie still spoke of one another fondly. You at least knew they were friends and even if Maggie wasn't on a ton, Mickey/Maggie would still speak of John/Marlena like they were close to them and be at major events like weddings and parties for them. You wouldn't even know Maggie/Marlena knew one another today. The weirder thing was John's sudden hatred of Maggie in the early 2000's when he was calling her a gossip and openly mean to her. That came out of nowhere lol.
  15. Dr. Rolf was pardoned so I assume he could just walk around town like everyone else. I don't have any facts on this, but I assumed he lives in Salem on some DiMera property. As far as family he at least had a niece. His niece Marlo was the birth mother of J.T. (Bo/Hope's 'son' during the Lexie baby switch). I think Rex just figured out this could be the same toxin, so I assume Rolf will come into play and Kristin will barter for something (Rachel/Brady most likely) to give up the antidote. Meanwhile Rex will be working to make the antidote as well (much like Mike in the OG story) and things will get dire, and everyone will have to give in to Kristen's demands.
  16. Thank you! Feels like a safe space again🤣😍. If it starts to go off the rails again at least @victoria foxtondid the good work and made us an October thread.
  17. I don't envy being a MOD on this place. Now this has moved to the GH thread 🙄 Is any thread safe? Can't we just talk about how hot Chandler Massey is? @Soapsudswhere you at?🤣 I need a shirtless gif of Carson or Chandler stat.
  18. Well, at least it's almost October and we can start a new thread.🤷‍♀️
  19. Thank you. I swear I do watch this show everyday🤣 But I get easily distracted or sometimes I am working while it's on. I am sure his Gaby feelings will come back. I just wish I remembered anything about him and Chloe to begin with. I know it existed and I know I was watching the show, but it's like a blank slate
  20. Does Stefan know his love Abby/Gabby died yet? I kind of zone out on his scenes tbh. How did this brainwashing work? Did it just make his feelings for Gaby end? I have the exact same feelings as you lol. I don't care, but yet do want to see how it all is going to end. I like Brady/Chloe as much as any Brady pairing, but I wish they were more interesting. I do think they are one of the few couples currently on the show that do seem in love and passionate about one another though.
  21. I don't really like Allie being uptight. It just wasn't how she was introduced. I hate the trope that a party girl is completely changed by having a child. I mean, it does happen, but on soaps it happens to everyone. I appreciate Allie grew up and matured, but so did Chanel and she's still fun.
  22. I agree about the Chabby scenes. Nice for the fans and even I enjoyed them. I really don't like this Allie. I know motherhood and her trauma changed her, but she's no fun at all. She's like an uptight old lady now lol. I enjoy all 3, but Allie is definitely the heavy here.
  23. Very true about CM's lack of connection to her on screen children. Through her run on the show though I do think she's historically spent more time with Matt, so he came to mind first. I will cut Cady some slack with the children because Missy came back a few times and her connection with Marci really shined through and it made CM's job that much harder. I wonder if she studied any of Jennifer's history or watched any of Missy's performances because I don't see a whole lot of Jen shining through. I don't mind if she has her own take on Jennifer, but some key characteristics seem missing or way off. Lol! About that eulogy. It was so awkward and stiff. That is exactly what I was thinking of when I commented about her diction. I have no idea why Matt didn't just do it. There are definitely times where I think Julie, Hope, and Jennifer have played their characters snobby, judgey and uppity. It wouldn't be my overall description of the Hortons, but they aren't working class like the Brady's either. I have never thought of Jennifer as being overly interested in proper English when speaking though. She has always had a pretty casual way of conversing, unlike, say, Marlena who is pretty proper when speaking to everyone even John and her family. I liked Gwen as well in the beginning. It's a shame her character has gone down the path she has. That is a very fair point about RC and dropping pets. I just don't think Jack is quite as dependent on Jen as he was in the past. There has been some effort to branch him out with other characters and that wasn't the case before. As far as Marlena and her children, I do get what you are saying about her and EM and GV. Obviously she has spent years with Christie and Ali so that's obvious. DH and Martha seemed to click right away as well. With EM/Brady, I have never thought the Brady/Marlena adult relationship was very well defined. Sometimes Marlena is like his mother other times she's just a woman his dad married. The show considers Sami/Eric his siblings, but Brady keeps Marlena at arm's length usually and I don't think either actor knows how to play it exactly. With Eric, he was gone so long and has always been the 'forgotten' twin and I don't think Deidre and GV ever really connected that well. I would say the same about him and Ali Sweeney and Josh Taylor. The only sibling he truly has chemistry with is EM. I think the effort is there on both GV and DH's part-it just comes off lesser than Marlena's daughters because historically throughout the show, her daughters have been more important. I think Dee does quite well with Allie/Johnny/Claire (especially Allie/Claire) too.
