If you ever go back and watch 1997 GH you can tell when Guza leaves the building IMO. Pretty much every story is botched except the Carly/Jason/AJ/Michael stuff. Even no brainers like the Sonny/Brenda reunion don't work right. I think Culliton's main plot was the Dorman murder umbrella story (that Guza started I believe) and it got really overly complicated fast. There was no real need to bring Sonny/Jax/Brenda into it and tie it to Lily's dad.

There was a clear shift when Guza left from Bobbie/Stefan (which was popular AND interesting) to boring Stefan/Katherine out of nowhere IMO. I agree there was something very dark about Alexis's past that was never fully realized. I would have bought Stavros, but it was probably too much for ABC/Disney at the time. I think it was okay with the audience because we finally got some, ANY answer about Sam's father. In the scheme of things it's an unwise move because it's not very important. Guza actually wasn't head writer at the time. It was Culliton then Iacobuzio/Whitesell. Guza returned a bit later although you could feel his work once Culliton was gone.

Yeah, all the years we waited for Sam to even ask about her dad and...Julian Jerome was the choice. It could be better, but I care so little about Sam I can't bring myself to be mad. I think Luke was the one arrested for the shooting, but, yes, it was Stefan that shot Katherine and paralyzed her. I am pretty sure Richard Culliton bungled a lot of the Stefan/Katherine stuff. Along with the ditching of Miranda, who I believe was actual supposed to be a Cassadine and screwed up the original plan. I don't think this one is all on Guza.

Stefan/Katherine was such a weird pairing. I get the idea of it all, but it truly didn't work. It strange how SN/MBE had so little chemistry on GH. The whole Katherine might be Stefan's sister story didn't help either. Then her sleeping with Nikolas. Oy, Katherine was such a mess of a character. I always thought Alexis worked pretty well fitting into the cast, but in a lot of ways her identity wasn't quite as tied into being a Cassadine.

There were some high points. I do think Guza did really well with big "events" during this time. Day to day the show sometimes dragged along and the bias was clear, but I always considered it exciting. Obviously, some of those decisions were short sighted like killing off main characters with years of story left, but Guza did go for it. It's what I feel has been lacking on GH (before PM/EK) for years. The show was okay, but it lacked excitement.

I think Adam Huss did fine as Nik. I just vastly prefer Tyler's version and that's my 'true' Nik. Obviously, I wouldn't fault the show for moving on though. Does JMB still act? I didn't hate Emme Rylan as much as others did. I prefer Berman like most, but it took me years and Dante to like Lulu. I didn't realize ER was so widely hated until I came on this board lol. That being said, I would look elsewhere for a Lulu if Berman won't return. AZ as Sarah is an interesting idea. I don't think GV will leave Days to go back to GH where he was pretty unceremoniously dumped. With a family to feed, I wouldn't go back to GH as Lucky considering he could be dropped at any moment when JJ feels the urge to return.

I feel like Nik has been written into a corner for awhile. Especially with Tyler's passing I can't get myself to care that much about Nik. I suppose he can come visit Ace from time to time. It's ridiculous Lulu is still in a coma. I can understand it might be a bit more challenging to find the right Lucky, but there are plenty of blonde soap actresses in the world that could do Lulu justice and she would fit in so many stories. Aren't there rumors some Wards are being cast?

Well, yes, I agree with that. I would actually rest the Cassadines at this point. Laura does need more family on the show and I would rather it be Lulu/Lucky. Did you like Nik's intro story via Lulu's illness or did you dislike all of it? I thought Laura having an unknown lost child was the best part, although the wishy-washy back and forth about Stefan vs. Stavros being the father was a little annoying. I never really thought of the Cassadines being a poor fit for the time, but what you are saying does make sense. I do remember sometimes feeling like the Stefan/Nik/Katherine mess felt like it was part of another show, so I guess that does speak to your point.

Ari has been nominated a few times. I don't think they snubbed her. But coming from a family of lawyers (with no legal expertise on my own) I could see just not even trying and the goal is more of the lawsuit win. Which she should win, but winning lead actress emmy's when she is trying to make other more valid points might confuse this whole thing especially if she's going to trial. I could honestly just be spitballing conspiracies into the air, but I could see why Ari might not want to win awards for this show at this time.

I am just speaking off minimal awareness and I agree writing this out can be more difficult than us actually speaking. My point is Days probably wouldn't have promoted AZ. She's in the middle of a lawsuit. I assume she didn't want the extra hassle of trying for an emmy, and let's saying winning, in the middle of said lawsuit. Because that might muddle some things as far as her case. I am not advocating that this is right, but if she WINS a lead actress emmy there could be some ammunition against her case.

Hmm.. I always thought Guza's choice to bring in the Cassadine's was innovative. But I agree it could only go so far. I think Nik gave Laura a whole new chapter to explore, but I did tire of Stravos and Helena. I liked Stefan, but I also liked the whole gothic vibe of it all and I agree it might not be right for daytime in this particular era.

But someone still needs to submit themselves for the award. I have no idea if she did or didn't but the process wouldn't be meaningless if she literally didn't try. For example people like Deidre just don't even bother anymore. I know Vanessa Marcil didn't even try in 2010-2011 because she was meh on the material. I don't know Ari Zucker and I do think she would submit, but if she was just over the process the emmy's can't just give her an award without her doing her due diligence. To be clear, I absolutely think she deserves a nomination, but we don't know all the facts here yet.

I am not disagreeing or anything, but why do you think the Cassadines are worse than Jason or Sonny? I kind of like the idea of wealthy Greek/Russian old school distant royalty and riches stuff as an escape although I would agree the Cassadines are a bit dark. Basically, I just want to hear more of your thoughts on the subject lol.

That's fair and I will say I don't really know how the entire writing process of a soap works. I just would think a pitch would include a beginning, middle, and end. Details can get thrown in along the way, but there should be a cohesive plan to stick to. I can excuse a lot of it due to scab writing and the mid story change of JL to EOB as Theresa, but this feels more like a string of ideas instead of a well thought out story.

Like the Everett story, it feels like it's being made up as they go along. I don't know if it's stalling because of the strike or it just has no direction. What was the point of Thomas stealing the card only to give it back today? Is it going anywhere? Or was that just to stall scenes for a week?

I'll be that nerd and say I don't think they are ahead of us anymore because they have shown dates of 2024 recently lol. I don't think it's because time moves slower, but more laziness in details. I am also of the mind that I don't think it really matters. Salem time is so wacky I don't think we should take it seriously at all (not they you are). None of it is realistic and if they tell me it's 2024 or 2025 I'll just go with it. I thought the time jump was a cool idea, but it seems even the writers lost interest in it.

It's Days so I am used to convoluted evil plots, but I truly don't get why Xander, Maggie, Alex, etc. need to be collateral damage in Konstantin's scheme when he's mad at Victor and John. If the end game is to get Maggie and Alex's money, Theresa and Konstantin aren't doing a very good job. Logistics of a newspaper in 2024 aside, I do enjoy the newspaper on the show. It gives quite a few characters a job and I like Xander and Chad doing something other than boring family corporate jobs.

I have heard that stuff about NAC for awhile now. No idea if it's true, but it's been a pretty consistent rumor for a few years. I think MB even alluded to a certain young actor getting a big head (didn't name names) on his you tube show and most everyone thought it was a dig at Chavez. I do think he's a very talented guy and may hit it big, so good luck to him. I have no problem with the show waiting to recast Spencer. I don't have any particular hope Chavez will be back in any long term capacity, but waiting seems right in this situation.
