Wasn't Robin already gone by this time? Wasn't she Peggy's mother? And why was Leslie's last name Rogers, rather than Jackson? I'm assuming these episodes are during the period that Mike Bauer was appearing on Another World. And GL was in the slow transition from Selby Flats in southern California to Springfield, USA. Am I correct about any of this?

ALL: General Retro Soap Discussion
What was the last murder trial on a soap opera? Not just a murder, but a full murder trial. Why did soaps stop writing murder trials? They used to be a great way to stir the pot on almost any soap opera.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think in addition to all that's been said -- Lisa had committed so many transgressions, and had always been forgiven by the audience. So Marland knew the fans would forgive Lisa for a short lapse into temporary racism. Would the fans have forgiven Nancy Hughes in the same way?? Additionally, Lisa's disapproval was more impactful -- as she was (as others have suggested) in the orbit of Duncan and Jessica. Had Nancy been the person to disapprove, it's likely Duncan and Jessica would never have even heard about her disapproval. So Nancy's disapproval would have been more or less meaningless.

Yep, that's it!! Thanks for the help on pronunciation. We have some very nice and helpful people on this message board. It's great to be reminded of that occasionally. By the way Contessa, how did you find the clip you posted above? Is it audio only? Is the entire episode available to view?? Thanks again .

DAYS: February 2025 Discussion Thread
Yes, this is the actor. Thanks for the links. Now I hope to find someone who remember what Vivian called him. Janea4old is on the right track. This guy was on DOOL around 2009-ish. So he was on the show after Ivan. Jane has identified the actor correctly. Now, I'm still trying to remember what Vivian called him.

DAYS: February 2025 Discussion Thread
Actually this time it was not Ivan. He was a much younger guy, very handsome, with dark hair. He was only with her for that one storyline. The assistant had a name (of course), but Vivian didn't call him by his name, she used an unusual term which I assume means servant or assistant in another language.

Good Lord, It seems as if SFT was plagued by the "merry-go-round of head-writers" for 35-years. Most long-running soaps haven't entered the merry-go-round writers phase until ratings have been low for years and cancellation was knocking on the door. Poor Search for Tomorrow. Can anyone decipher the list of writers and identify the longest running head-writer in Search history???

Thanks. I had no idea Dino had returned to SFT as late as 1976, and after Pomerantz had replaced him. I'd always assumed Pomerantz was the final actor to play Len.

Didn't Dino have a fairly major role on Somerset for a while? If I'm correct about that, what happened with Len while Dino was at Somerset? Was Len written off for a while, and then Dino returned? I do remember Jeffrey Pomerantz played Len very late in the character's arc, but I think Somerset was already cancelled by that time (or maybe I'm wrong about that also). And if I'm not mistaken, Dino also had a contract role on The Doctors for a while, but he wasn't there very long.

I don't remember a blonde Patty during this era of the show, but I was in school at the time and only saw SFT on school holidays and summertime. I do recall the adult Patty was recast many times, while I believe there was only one long-term Len, and a short-term replacement for Len during the character's final storyline. How many actresses played Patty during the long Patty/Len romance?

Didn't Irene Daily (the final Liz Matthews) also have an important role in the Stephanie Martin murder mystery on EON?

Thank you for the response. I guess his mother wasn't as famous as I thought she was. Now, I'm not surprised I haven't been able to remember her name. I could almost say I've never heard of her. But apparently I have.

First time I've ever seen Dr Bob Rogers' home. I didn't even realize his home was ever on camera on SFT. I'm assuming after Emily was written off, Dr Bob Rogers sort of became nothing more than "a doctor when they needed one." If I am incorrect, someone please set me straight.

This at least partially explains why that remote in Greece always seemed so awkward and a bit off-putting. I could tell it was always some problem with the sound. Plus, doing a remote on film (rather than video-tape), when other soaps had been shooting remotes on tape for at least a few years, was a rather poor decision. I've often wondered if this was the final time a US soap-opera shot a remote on film.

Isn't Jerry the son of a well known actress? Or at the least son of someone well known in show business? I've read about it a few times, but can never seem to remember who the person's name.

Another World Discussion Thread
Somerset actress, Alice Hirson had died at age 95. AW fans are aware Somerset was a spin-off of Another World. Hirson's character had a particularly historic connection to important AW characters, Rachel and Ada. On Somerset, Hirson played Gerald Davis's second wife, Marcia. And AW fans will remember Gerald Davis as the father of Rachel. So Marcia was Rachel's step-mother. Gerald Davis's first wife was Ada, played by Constance Ford on AW. Some outlets are reporting that Hirson also appeared on Another World, which is possible. If she did appear on AW, it was likely in the weeks leading up to the premiere of Somerset, in which several Somerset characters appeared briefly on episodes of AW. Also during this period, Rachel (at the time played by Robin Strasser) travelled to Somerset to connect with her father, Gerald. So it is possible that Rachel and Marcia shared scenes together, but I can find no evidence to verify that.

Okay, I appreciate that clarification. So that more or less goes along with my earlier post. But I do believe Zimmer was either incorrect or exaggerating when she used the term "everything that came before would have been erased." I do not believe it was Wheeler's intent to literally erase the history of the show, or recast the actors as different characters. She was just hoping to promote the new production model as a new version of GL. To some degree she did that, and she did attract a good deal of media attention. Unfortunately that media attention did not result in higher ratings.

Well, regardless of who's idea the new production model was, ultimately P&G had to agree to it. So I could have began, After P&G had agreed to the new production model... And to be clear, I did not intend to sound particularly critical of Ellen Wheeler. I have always been empathetic with the very difficult position she was in. I was really just trying to share what I recall about her desire to re-number GL's episodes and more-or-less reboot the show -- in reference to another poster's question. But Wheeler did the best she could in an impossible situation. And GL was used as a guinea pig with the new production model. Bad for GL, but ultimately GL's failure prevented other soaps from following the same path, which I'm sure other soaps would have eventually done.

I do not believe Wheeler's intent was ever to have the actors playing new characters. She just wanted to reboot the show with existing characters/actors, and sort of pretend it was an entirely new Guiding Light. I think that was an attempt to get media attention (which partially did work) and attract new viewers.

Not sure if you're referring to Wheeler having plans for this after the cancellation, or before the cancellation. But I do have some intel about something along those lines she wanted to do before the show was cancelled. After Wheeler had been given permission to go with the new production model, and she was ready to roll with it full time (the show had actually been experimenting with hand-held shaky cameras and more outdoor shooting, etc, for several months before they went "full steam ahead") -- so when the decision was made, Wheeler made a big deal about rebooting the show with sort of a "premiere" episode. Lots of fans probably remember that episode and how it was promoted on CBS. Wheeler's original intent was to re-number GL's episodes -- and begin the show all over again by numbering that new production model "premiere" as Guiding Light episode # 1. I never heard or read that she literally wanted to rename the show, The New Guiding Light, but perhaps that was in her plan also. Anyway, regarding the re-numbering of episodes -- ultimately P&G refused to allow Wheeler to re-number the episodes, so she was unable to make it episode #1, as she had wanted. I'm not sure I've really answered your question, but I do remember that Wheeler was keen on completely rebooting the show, and essentially starting from scratch. And she would have done so, had P&G not stopped her.
