If people remember the Emmitt Till murder case (it was one of many events that touched off the Civil Rights movement in the 1950s), there is an upcoming book in which the woman at the center of the murder case, whose husband and another man were acquitted (but later admitted guilt in a magazine interview) in the grisly killing of the teenager, has admitted that SHE LIED in court! Anyone with a conscience knew that she lied, her husbands lied and they all got away with it by benefit of a racist jury and legal system but how does someone live with this knowledge and for so damn long??! Welp, this is another perspective to add to the growing list of things that can happen. http://www.smh.com.au/business/markets/donald-trump-could-send-america-into-repeat-of-1929-stockmarket-crash-says-professor-robert-shiller-20170118-gtu9ha.html Also, I don't know what this means globally, but this is intriguing. Anyway you slice it, U.S. taxpayers are paying for that wall! 20% tax on imports from Mexico?! Many avocados (CA cannot produce enough on their own to meet demand, especially after having years of drought), limes are imported from Mexico. People who like tequila, agave syrup, etc even some appliances...are going to end up paying the price and it looks to be a steep one!

That will take some time and may be more complex than you think, especially considering how many European countries, in particular, threaten to take a right-ward turn. The Netherlands is largely considered one of the "good guys" now but in reality, they have a very muddled history that links with slavery and apartheid with repercussions, particularly in Southern Africa, that persist to this day. It's not always easy to discern who are the "good guys" and who are tainted. I agree that China has an awful human rights record and it's fairly obvious they have an agenda for wanting to lead on environmental and trade issues, still a country with a billion plus people will have an impact that will be difficult to dismiss.

Oh, it's already happening, at least on the trade and enviromental policy side. China already announced that it plans to step into the void and lead. The Chinese government will relish any chance to 'show up' the U.S., especially since the U.S. is now headed by a president they consider to be "ignorant".

So Jared Kushner is also registered to vote in two states? So many of them in Trump's camp, is no coincidence. Enrique Peña Nieto cancelled his meeting with Trump. Not surprising considering that he currently has an approval rating of 12% among the Mexican people. Yep, a president who actually has a lower approval rating than Trump.- The Politics Thread

As many of us are fans of serial TV, many of us have grown up watching soaps and especially, those of us who grew up watching American soaps can relate to the title of this Op-ed article. Certainly, I know you Days of Our Lives fans can really appreciate the title and its sentiment. How to Save CNN From Itself By the way, I don't think CNN is the sole problem, most of the broadcast networks and several newspapers can also shoulder the blame for lack of due diligence in their reporting during this past election season.- The Tennis Thread

This reporter who was part of the WH pool during the 1990s presents an interesting perspective on how he thinks members of the press should deal with the "contempt" with which the Trump administration holds the press. The Press Should Skip the White House Briefings **How interesting that the deficit that conservatives are always squawking about is project to go up under Trump's plans for tax cuts, etc after 7 years of modest declines. This, according to a report put out by the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office. Trump's plan to ramp up spending will add about $10 Trillion over 10 years.- The View

Even Tiffany Trump was registered to vote in two states. Trump needs to be aware of what he is unleashing with these allegations and just how many in his own circle are likely get snagged for some fraud that he claims is rampant but is actually quite limited to a miniscule number of people-- in the two cases that were uncovered, both got caught and both were Republican. These lawsuits should be named and Trump should be publicly shamed. This behavior should never be normalized. Trump hit with $2 million suit by contractor on D.C. hotel- The Politics Thread
You're welcome. @marceline I did see the video of the neo Nazi punch set to Beyoncé's rendition of the national anthem and admit I chuckled both times I watched it. Yeah, I considered not posting it but did so because I thought it was important to document this incident for those who troll the board and think that these alt-right neo Nazis are just harmless folk with 'not mainstream' believes just exercising their right to free speech. They are not and I wanted to show an incident where this was the case. Also, it is the opinion of the victim to see it the way they want to see it. I do not agree. I feel absolutely no sympathy for Richard Spencer and those of their ilk. People are free to speak their minds, even express views that are reprehensible by most people with a sense of humanity- but they also must face the fact that there are often consequences and that one of them is being challenged by people who vehemently disagree and a few times there may be the odd confrontation. I'm not going to waste time trying to understand a mindset that I consider beyond the pale. Thankfully most people on this board (except for a few trolls) are discerning enough to parse through the opinions, however warped they may be, at times and dig through to find the cogent facts that are actually pertinent to our discussions of today's events.- The Politics Thread
