As expected the general election in the UK has resulted in a landslide victory for Labour and Rishi Sunak has announced that he will step down as leader of the Conservative Party. The Liberal Democrats also had a great night, whereas the SNP (Scottish National Party) had a disastrous night. With two seats left to count we have: Labour 412 (+211) Conservative 121 (-250) Liberal Democrats 71 (+63) Scottish National Party 9 (-38)

That's the first time a reigning champion has gone out straight away in over 20 years. Lleyton Hewitt lost in the first round as champion in 2003. For a female champion to do the same we have to go back to 1994 when Steffi Graf lost to Lori McNeil. I don't think Vondrousova's loss is as big of an upset as Graf's was. Vondrousova's win last year was a big surprise, whereas Graf was the #1 player in the world.

I'm torn... On the one hand I'm ecstatic that they finally give the Sugdens some attention, but on the other hand I have very little faith that they will do this justice. He will probably just end up getting involved with a Dingle somehow.... I do wonder how he will be connected to the Sugden family. As far as I know Jacob (Annie's late husband) was an only child, so unless he's a more distant relative him being an illegitimate son of Jack or Joe seems the most probable answer. Joe did spend some time in France in the mid 1980s so that could be a possible time period.
