I was thinking Lenore was gone at this point but I guess not. I looked up stats on AWHP. I think I recall hearing Carol was Rachel's maid of honor to her marriage to Mack but do recall seeing scenes they became unfriendly but most likely this was Rachel's turn around time become a nice person and Carol was just like another Iris..

True but it once it was pointed out it seems apparent she did that often. Regardless, stupid move on AW and the P and G for allowing her to be fired... Someone out here mentioned that they believed Lemay had a hard time writing for actors who had been on the show prior to his hire. Something I totally agree with. Well, he had great things to say about Connie Ford, Bev Penthoby, Susan Sullivan. Others who were already on the show but it seems like he wanted to clean house when he came on board. Not so unusual on most business's when someone new comes in. I loved the final scene between Rachel and Alice at Macs funeral. That was the last time we saw them together. It was genuine I said that too. They made a scene between Jamie and Steve where Jamie saw his father in a dream why not do one with Alice and Steve? I often wonder how the scripting and writing and story would have went had Doug Watson not died just weeks before the anniversary. Maybe it would have been Alice who saw Steve at the light? I heard that the intent was not to make Gwen nuts but they were not able to bring the character Willis back so they used her instead. It would have made sense of Willis to trying to get back at Rachel.. I only saw the first Willis in some of these recent releases of footage but like Susan Harney, Leon Russom was really the only Willis I knew and he did play the role for about 5 years. That is long time in soap world. Very different Willis's. What was the reason Fitzpatrick left?

I didn't think that Lemay was writing during this time? I would love to have seen Bev playing Emma. So diff than the Tresa Hughes I seen and yes as much as Iove Elizabeth Ashley as an actress, I don't think she was casted well for Emma Frame Ordway Quite possibly so. I was too young when J Courtney was actually playing Alice and Susan Harney was the Alice I really knew. I think Lemay did destroy the character of Alice even though I loved Susan Harney. It was my understanding that the producer wanted her off and George Reinholt as well. Until it was pointed out in his book she wrote her lines on hands or kept scripts under her, I did begin to see the constant eye drop. Regardless, it was a stupid move on AW, Pand G and Rauch to fire her. She was a heroine on the show. When She returned later years is when i really got to see her day and day out. Not so much in 84 or so since I was in HS. Her returns in 89 who bravo. She looked beautiful and was an outstanding actress. This was the time that AW should have really gone out of their way to bring her back to show. Maybe it would have survived longer

HOW TO SURVIVE A MARRIAGE
If i remember correctly and amazing at the age of 6 or 7 at this time, Cathy Green who played Sally Frame on AW and Lori on HTSAM was hit by car when she went to chase after her dad after he was leaving her and her mother for her moms bf. what hoes back then. haha!!

Texas! Discussion Thread
I think Paul Rauch wanted to launch another Frame family. He saw how well He allowed Harding Lemay to do that on AW and at this point AW's ratings were crumbling. The idea of another farm family with lots of siblings seemed like a good idea with siblings being from good and bad like barret and dawn to the mean Paige and Justin and Courtney somewhere in the middle kind of like a Vince or Emma Frame. I thought Texas started of cool but flopped after a while and I finally turned to GH even though I was still watching AW. But this point AW was pretty bad too but I had to stay watching since I had invested so many years into it. I have always thought that Aaron. The Marshalls in Texas were the Frames in Bay City/Chadwell. Very similar large family with lots of siblings and some bad and some good. Was it ever mentioned who was the youngest and oldest Marshall. I would say either Paige or Barrett were the oldest.

I've been watching those 1994 clips, belatedly, mainly for Carmen Duncan's last hurrah as Iris. As I've often bemoaned on this board, I never understood what TPTB were thinking, shipping a veteran character off to prison never to be heard from again. After seeing a good deal of the storyline again now, I have a new theory: Could AW have been in negotiations with Beverlee McKinsey to make a cameo appearance as Iris to wrap up the story sometime after Duncan left? I think the timing works…BM came out of retirement to appear in a couple of episodes of GH just a few months after CD left AW, and McKinsey was quoted as saying that she only did that because she needed a TV credit to maintain her union's health insurance. She was living in LA at that time, but she could have flown to NY for a month or two to usher Iris off the show permanently, in a manner more becoming the character. Maybe the show was even toying with killing Iris off, i.e., taking a bullet after teaming up with Carl and Rachel to bring Evan down or whatever. Whether Duncan left of her own volition or the show wanted to write the character out to save money, I'm still inclined to believe that this was not meant to be the end for Iris's character. Even though she was partially responsible for Carl's shooting and arguably deserved to go to jail, a 15-year sentence (handed down right after the jury read the verdict!) was so over-the-top — especially when Carl had fully recovered — and Evan was still being positioned as the villain at this point. Iris going on the lam or something would have actually been a more expedient exit, and less messy if Evan's "redemption" was already planned. The only dramatic reason I can think of for rushing Iris off to prison like they did was to up the stakes when she returned, presumably for Evan's downfall. What I could never figure out, though, was how another Iris recast would have fit into the canvas. It doesn't see like AW was all that invested in the character at that point. Whereas a short-term McKinsey return might have generated some buzz, which AW could have used at the time, and by all accounts she wouldn't have wanted to stay long. Obviously no deal was finalized by the time CD left, and the GH role came along for BM — at which point she would have had no reason to come back to NY, likely for a longer commitment than GH wanted. Meanwhile, I believe CD left the country. All of which would have left the character of Iris in limbo. Can anyone recall speculation along these lines back in 1994, or anytime in the 20-plus years since? What, if any, impact do folks think such a stunt would have had for AW at that point? I highly doubt that BM was being considered coming back. She was also very aged at this point. Remember her role was casted as a younger person.. BM at this point was well into her 60's I think. It would have been great to bring CD back for the last episode. At that point, the role was really hers and not sure if the ratings would have changed bringing BM back since most of the audience had either left or there was a new a new audience

But she was also responsible for bringing the show back to the basics by reintroducing the Frames. In December 1987, Jason Frame came to the show. We heard Steve, Emma, Jim Matthews, Russ, Molly, Willis and other names all mentioned in a few days which was hint the Frame family was coming back as major players in the show I often wondered that too but I don't recall seeing Paul as the original Joey. Of course, I was pretty young back then but only after reading about this on Eddies page did I learn that Paul Perri the original Joey Perrini. They look very much alike and good recasting

Wow, Dawn Benz was simply awful as Sally Frame. No offense but I can see why she was gone after less than two months. I only recall seeing one or two episodes back then with her playing the role. The whole recasts of Sally always meant a completely different personality was playing the role. I really did like MPK as Sally but she was not blonde and that was also unrealistic

I read an interview that Bev was asked to return but it was much earlier on, around when she started on GL. I would love to see who Duncan's completion was. I always thought a Meryl Streep Devil wears Prada type would have worked well but that was closer to Carmens portrayal of Iris. Debbie Reynolds would have been a great replacement for Iris if she just did the sultry type voice

Slick, you are slick. Where did you find this info? I remember Sylvie. In fact, I just watched an episode from 1988 when Iris retured to tell Mac he was in fact her real father and that she stayed with Sylvie while she died. They had another character named Alice on AW at that time, considering Alice Frame was still on the show?

I did not see JC's acting daily but I have seen the avail episodes from the early days. Harding Lemay wrote in his book that Paul Rauch told him that JC constantly looks down at her hands to read her lines. He is the one who really put the plant in Lemays head about her being a bad actress (from eight years in another world). I really love JC or shall I say, her later years when she came back. Just seeing some of her stuff in the early days, I thought she was not great and seeing her in 1989 for the reunion thought she was awesome I agree, we are creatures of habit and certain roles can not be replaced but Canary as Steve Frame does not work and honestly would have prefered to see Kale Brown as Steve. SMILES>>>

I would say I would have to disagree on the Steve Frame recast. Canary was terrible and just NOT Steve Frame. You are indeed correct with the misery of recasts of Alice Frame. Susan Harney was really the Alice I remember as a kid and did enjoy but none of them were anything like J Courtney. It is a shame once they bout Jackie back on the 3 occasions since she was fired in 75 they just did not keep her on the show indefinetely. I will note, on Lemay and Rauch's defense, Courtney was not that great of actress in the early days (watching old episodes) but thought was she was so genuine on her returns

Thanks for sharing this info. I am guessing AW would have did cartwheels to appease to Robinson just to get him on the show. Interesting note, he started in Dec 87 and was gone by Feb 1989. He was only on the show for a little over one year. Even though, they invented a new brother. He really is a remake of Willis Frame

The Frame clan was already on their way back from Harding Lemay returned. Both Sharlene and the intro of Jason Frame. In fact, there were many siblings that were introduced during the 70's. Steve had two brothers Vince and Willis and three sisters, Janice, Sharlene and Emma who all were on during the 70s's.
