  1. I can understand Victoria's attitude about Sharon here, if you were in a similar situation with your sibling in jail and his new girlfriend was keeping her mouth shut you probably wouldn't be too kind, she is desperate and angry with how things are. I agree Victoria and Sharon had a complex relationship, I do remember Victoria defending Sharon to Nikki or at least telling her mother to butt out on a few occasions. I think Cole was a good influence on Victoria and a big part of her softening her attitude.
  2. Yeah Jeanne also said John Considine was there when she was hired and gone shortly after. I assume he was introduced as Liz's boss, maybe shown at the factory and probably had very few scenes before Jeanne arrived. Bell was good at introducing a character slowly, so Jeanne may have started in Nov 73 but maybe was only on a couple times a week and many of her scenes may have been her sitting in her living room lamenting her life or with Theresa and of course Phillip. Remember the Chris Brooks rape story was wrapping up, then Chris and Snapper were engaged and Sally discovered she was pregnant and tried to commit suicide about the time Kay started to appear. Shortly after she turned up on screen Laurie Brooks returned home, so there was plenty of other stuff going on.
  3. I love the inner thoughts, I actually prefer it to characters talking to themselves, but it always reminds me of Airplane (1980) and makes me laugh.
  4. What an amazing episode. Seeing Jill's determination and knowing how on point Bell kept her character for his 25 year tenure. One of his best creations in my mind. Loved her flub, Brenda recovered so well it does seem as if it was scripted and Jill's nerves got the better of her. Though after that I kept waiting for Theresa to do the same thing. I always thought Kay was called Mrs. Chancellor until the mid 80's by everyone except of course her husbands/boyfriends. I am assuming this aired very late Jan or very early Feb, was wondering how long John Considine was on for. I think Donnelly must have taken over soon after this though. I too think the Foster family would do well today, if balanced out with a rich family. There are a lot of people struggling today, so it would be relevant, but we also seem to be in a society that loves watching rich people do sweet F*&^ all, all day long. I do notice Bell's stories back then developed very slowly, but each episode I have seen from the 70's is rich with character development.
  5. Which makes me believe she wasn't dictating the changes in story as is implied in that article. Wouldn't be surprised if this story was one of the reasons she left.
  6. What is interesting is Pat Falken-Smith left Days around the time that article came out, does anyone know why she left. I had heard she wasn't happy with network interference, maybe this story was part of that. Can anyone confirm?
  7. Thanks for the article Paul. Amazing still is that in the 90's interracial (mostly Black/White) couplings were still controversial on many shows. I tend to believe the actors on this one. I am sure PFS and Wes would never outright admit to anything the actors were talking about. I call utter BS on Pat for her remarks about not wanting a more intimate display for David and Valerie. Never happened on soaps, all couples back then kissed or at the very least touched and were affectionate unless it was clear for the story that a character had a reason for it.
  8. Interestingly they had Jill and John mend ways a bit in 1987 when Brenda was still in the role, so I wasn't surprised Jill and John re-connected and re-married. I was disappointed that it had to end in another affair. I actually thought it would have been something for Jill to stick it out with John through his impotence but fall out of love with him and want a divorce. No fault, but plenty of anger. I realise Jill needs passion and it was in keeping with her character, but I would have liked some growth on her part. After the disasters with men since her first divorce to John I would think Jill could have held back the insatiable desire to sleep with Jed. At least with Jack it was just once and she was vulnerable thinking she was going to die alone in the snow. With Jed it was crazy OTT.
  9. Yeah the Olivia outfit is pretty much early 90's. The hat and choker were very much in style between 1990 - 1993. Soapfan770 I would also like to see the scenes of Kay returning from the dead and kicking Jill out on her honeymoon night. The audio was awesome.
  10. Funny in that article they talk about Jill's marriages, but only two of them were ever legal at that point. Her marriage to Stuart and her two marriages to John. The rest were thwarted by Kay with the exception of her marriage to Brock. I am surprised they didn't add Derek Thurston since she and Derek did get married in 1979, even though it was invalid due to Kay crashing their honeymoon night and revealing she was still alive.
  11. I thought I remember Bell saying in an interview the story consultant title was just that, a title. Bell claimed he had no input, though I do remember reading letters in a Days history book from Bell to Pat Falken Smith talking about Julie and Doug's characters after they married. Possibly PFS asked him for advice during her stint and he guided her somewhat, Bell also stated once that he let Pat just do her thing and didn't interfere. I wonder if his real connection to the show ended completely when PFS left.
  12. Yeah it gets frustrating. Many years ago there were a lot more clips from the very early 80's, around 82/83. Like full episodes during the time Nikki was pregnant with Victoria. Unfortunately I never thought to save them.
  13. Episode is from Sep 4th 1998 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4oZE6JQDBo
  14. All that was said at the time was they wanted to take Thorne in a different direction. Maybe they thought Norcross limited, which he was, though I thought he was getting better. He actually had chemistry with Bobbie Eakes in the one scene I saw them in.
  15. I don't know if I said this one or if someone else has already but Jeff Trachta auditioned for the role of Jack Abbott on Y&R. They liked him so much they hired him to replace Clayton Norcross on B&B as Thorne.
  16. Speaking of Sheila. Here is a scene that I think has been talked about on SON but not seen for a long time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teV_Xd4iIOA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhNb750j4cM
  17. Thanks for the vids Carl. I am pretty sure Brenda's first scene back was with Marla Adams and occurred around Sep 9th 1983 (around that week anyway). It used to be on youtube. When Dina came to the Abbott house to visit and caught Jill drinking in the afternoon. They had a very deliciously bitchy fight. Actually the scene (footage not just audio) you posted audio of used to be on YT in an edited form, but had Jill talking to her mother about Kay trying to destroy her marriage as well. What you miss is when Kay says "You really are a......." she forms a c with her mouth before stopping herself, or so it seems, lol. There were so many scenes of Brenda's first few months, and a ton of Brenda's scenes from 1984 as well, but they have since disappeared. Too bad, I liked her in the first two years she was back. I wish they would be re-posted.
  18. Nice, I haven't seen it, I will check it out.
  19. Ooh I love seeing Y&R scenes from the early 80's especially Deborah Adair as Jill, there is so little of her run to be found. I wish there was some footage of Bond Gideon as Jill as well.
  20. Me too, I think it is the polyester shirts lol.
  21. True. I also think Bell wrote from a patriarchal point of view sometimes. Maybe he wished for the closeness with his own daughter when she was grown, was LLB born when Y&R started? The Brock/Lorie thing intrigues me, they had a fling in Europe (offscreen) and she tried to tempt him back into bed, but he had found god. I think it was one of those minor flirtations Bell seem to do a lot. Would be interesting to see those scenes. As they had no interaction (from memory) during her guest appearance at Nikki and Victor's wedding in 1984, I could be wrong and it would seem odd if they didn't. Y&R did extremely well in the first year for a show not being broadcast in many places initially. Off hand Carl I heard Bryna Laub disliked the show, while most of the soap press seemed to applaud it. Do you know why?
  22. Thanks for the article Carl. Conboy was definitely a good fit for Y&R in the early years. He really made an impact on the show. I have only seen the entire first episode, one from 1975 and a few scenes from the same year in broadcast quality and I have to say I disagree that video can look good. While I admit that Conboy did a great job with the lighting and such and it does look amazing for a show shot on tape, I can't say it looks anything as good as it would have on film. That lighting and those sets on film would have been stunning. Though I have to agree Conboy and co. did a great job with the attention to detail, colours, wardrobe (when they discussed wardrobe I could hear Brenda Dickson saying "They wanted to tape down my bosom"). When they were talking about how great Y&R is at the beginning and how quickly it became liked by audiences, I was reminded of seeing several polls in soap magazines and having Y&R at or near the top with Espy and Stewart hitting high on the polls too, and this was in the first year and a half. It is interesting to hear his take on the show, how everything comes back to love. The family ties are nowhere near as strong now on the remaining soaps, which is a shame. Though I did find it interesting when I think Trish Stewart or Janice Lynde said in an interview once that they didn't understand why the girls always went to their dad for advice about life and their relationships, something she though most young women would rarely do, instead going to their mother. I know Peggy and Jennifer shared a lot of scenes in the beginning. Interesting read, love these BTS articles with crew members.
  23. Bell said in his Legends interview his story consultant title was just that, a title, when he left in 1975 he left completely and that title was merely a legal consequence. I get the feeling he may have assisted Pat Falken-Smith if/when she asked as there are excerpts of letters published in the Days anniversary book where he gives advice on characters/stories that happened during PFS run. Bell also stated in an interview in 1990 that he let Pat do her own thing, and tried not to interfere.
  24. Thanks for posting Carl, Love Leanna vs. Jill. Sorry there wasn't more of it.
  25. Thanks Soapdope for that info, clears it up. Yeah I read the same article where he stated he wanted the show pulled, also saw the interview he did and yeah I am not surprised he retired that year (believe it was done in 1998) it is sad because if he hadn't been sick he could have written the show for a few more years and delayed the destruction of it. I thought Bell's interviewer was not that great, which is too bad as I really thought they only skimmed the surface. Too bad it was done when Bell was not in as great shape.
