Y&R: Old Articles
Many people remember Brett Halsey as John Abbott when Jill was hired. Then John is absent for several weeks and Sean Garrison pops up for a couple weeks before Brett Halsey is officially announced as John Abbott. None of this is confirmed, I have tried to research this as much as possible, but none of the soap press that I have found mentions it.

Yeah the 80's was all about blond hair, blue eyes and olive skin. The All American boy and girl next door look and was followed with the drive for status and wealth. Same with movies and primetime too. I think this was when the Boomers/Hippies sold out and became yuppies, haha. I definitely think Bond would have been around at least until 1983. Brenda did a Falcon's Crest guest shot in 1983 and I am certain Y&R put out the feelers about a return. In a Jan 83 SOD interview (probably done in late 82) Deborah Adair stated she had just renewed her contract with more money and an agreement for better story. I am guessing Bell probably enquired with Brenda if she would be willing to return, then waited out Deborah's contract. Look at Jill in 1983, she had little to do, then Brenda comes back and boom, 4 years of pretty solid story and the character is once again front and centre, instead of being a featured ensemble player. Makes me wonder, if Bond had been Jill would Jerry Douglas have still been cast as John?

This would explain why Bell didn't just marry off Lance and Leslie and have them ride off into the sunset with Brooks. It seems Leslie was supposed to stick around with Robert, Angela and Claire. I guess Bell felt there was not strong enough story potential or that Leslie didn't fit into the new show, so he cut everyone connected to her loose. I am betting if Victoria had been kept, that Robert Colbert may have stayed on recurring as well (if he had wanted to). 80 - 82 was a crazy time, a lot of turn over and too many different characters and stories, the show just wasn't focused, so anyone could be gone, I'd say once JLB decided to leave, all bets were off. As a side note I spoke to Bond Gideon through message on the Y&R FB group. She stated that Conboy and Bell were happy with her, until her agent apparently played hardball and Conboy dismissed her. So it seems likely Bond would have been Jill, at least until Brenda decided to return, because I have no doubt Bell wanted Brenda back and would have made it happen. ETA: Angela left with her mother and father once Robert and Claire reunited. Seems to have happened very quickly, then Leslie took off a week or two later

I noticed that too, I hope we can see that some day. At least we finally got Kay and Lorie together, although they barely speak and Kay made no mention of the fact Lorie dated Phillip. Janice Lynde also wanted desperately to have Leslie and Kay interact and was trying to come up with ways to make it happen before she left.

Yeah it was in synopsis that Stuart met with Liz on Memorial Day but it didn't mention if they reconciled, and then Stuart was never mentioned again. Robert Colbert was let go from the show shortly after, I think it was announced around Sep/Oct 83. So he may have appeared again but I doubt he did or at least t was probably very brief When Brenda Dickson returned in Sep 83, Liz was still living in the Foster home and Stuart was nowhere to be seen, and didn't seem to be mentioned.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Mary seemed like someone who could have played a similar role in Paul's life later, but written more like a mentor to Paul, wise and learned instead of a busybody who judges all the time.

Just watched Nikki and Kevin's wedding. A very pregnant Nikki is light headed due to not eating all day - Victor: "Let's get you some champagne" nutrition advice from 1982, haha More thoughts on 1982 Lyn Topping is good as Chris, better than I expected, Howard McGillan seems more like Jim Houghton more stoic and uptight instead of the manic Wings "crazy eyes" Hauser. Probably was a bit late in the day to be trying to revert Greg to a previous incarnation. Love seeing Stuart and Liz, too bad they have such little to do. Deborah is good, but way too warm and grounded for Jill. Always felt Victoria's Leslie was too regal and born of money for the almost tomboyish (at least initially) Leslie who had to be pushed out of her shell. When Leslie did glam up more Janice played her as more a modern woman of the 70's. I actually think the Brooks were to be upper-middle class when the show started and maybe were seen to be richer as the show went on. The Hoff is too laid back Californian for Snapper, almost the complete opposite of the character. I like Tom Ligon, but once Vanessa was gone and Lance knew Brooks was his son, Lucas wasn't needed. Karen is okay, but I probably wouldn't have invested much time in them as a viewer. Yeah when I first read about this I pictured Brooks on a boat on water in a soundstage at night with it all being dark, and lots of close ups to avoid showing and scenery or just fake trees and stuff. Glad they went on location. Wasn't rare on Y&R back then.

Y&R: Old Articles
As a side note: I had found an article (now lost) that stated Andre stepped in as Brooks for the episodes where Leslie takes Brooks to the circus, I think in 1981. The boy who had been in the role broke his arm or something and Gower stepped in and I guess continued in the role. I wish I could find this. Does anyone have the SOD issue that had an article on the circus BTS. Just to confirm if Gower was in the role? Most of my 1981 issues are gone and it doesn't seem to be posted on the tumblr site that I could see

From what I understand Barbara either trafficked drugs or stole money from people who did or something like that. Hence the nose job in that 1981 ep, she was on the run. Pretty sure it was a dropped plot point. Bell kinda fumbled through this family and then shipped them off. Despite Y&R being a bit of a mess 80 - 82, still loving these episodes

Also the first episode in there from early March (I think around March 1 - 5)!!!! the end of April/Barb/Dorothy and Wayne Poor Cash, I actually felt so bad for him. The first episode posted is a full one too Howard McGillan took over for Wings Hauser who was the Greg married to Nikki ETA: Lol at Liz "Setting to be married" Kay "Is that a bad thing?" Liz "You've been married three times already"

Hey everyone, someone is uploading a bunch of partial episodes and clips from 1982. Check out the soap vault (I don't know how to link it, sorry but link is in @ChickenNuggetz92signature) in Y&R - clips - 1982. So far full of stuff I haven't seen from early 1982. Sorry for some reason every time I try to link to it, it never works.

Look into the past - 1975
To be honest, maybe? So I read the synopsis you posted for July. I have another file that is listed as July 1974, but has details that seem to come after what you posted. Here it is below, maybe it was really August and was mislabelled? The only thing repeated is Sally giving birth, but Bryna Laub often recapped previous plot points.

I assume so. Beau didn't join until Nov, so I guess Rolf was Kay's son's name intially

Look into the past - 1975
Someone did once say Peggy was present when Jennifer died in Sep 77, but the next episode which picked up from the last scene of all the Brooks girls together opened without her in the scene. They had to give some excuse like Peggy couldn't handle it and is in her room or something. I know someone on this board recalled this. I think she wasn't seen again until Pat Everly took over in 79 and Pam didn't return until Apr 80. @FrenchFan Hi, not sure if you posted May & Jun 1974. For some reason I have Y&R for those months and I have no idea where I got them and why I don't have the other shows. If anyone recognises these and has the other shows, would be great to get them. Anyway for Y&R fans here you go. These means we should have Jan - Aug 74 and Dec 74 missing only Sep - Nov 74

Pamela quit the show and they were going to recast, but decided against it, not sure why, maybe Bill Bell was tired of the constant recasts. But yeah Peggy could have been a good side character through the 80's with Paul. She seemed to love investigative journalism would have meshed well with Paul's business. I think if Janice Lynde was still in the role, we would have seen Leslie come into her own more and be a slightly different woman with more of a backbone and edge. You can sort of see this in the few eps we have with Janice, I think that version of Leslie would have worked post 82. However Leslie seemed almost to regress with the recast in 77, hence the second stab at a pymalion story when she had amnesia and met Jonas, playing out the 73-74 pygmalion story with Leslie and Brad. This was Victoria and Leslie's chance to take up where Janice's Leslie had left off, but it seems Bell never quite pushed her there and maybe Victoria was better at playing the put upon heroine. I think Bell tried to keep Leslie, but she just didn't fit at that point. Chris and Snapper were almost done when Sally left town in late 74. They had no real story again until the Becker's turned up in mid-76 and even then that was really Chris' story. When Trish left in 78, Chris and Snapper again barely had anything to do but play supporting or star in small side stories that would wrap up quickly. They were mostly absent in 1980 and returned full time in 1981, but didn't have any real story again until Sally Maguire returned in Sep 81. That story took us through to Snapper's exit. Not sure why Bell kept Chris, made no sense she would be okay with letting her daughter move to another country without her. I guess that was corrected pretty quickly though. I mean when they returned in 81 Bell repeated (sort of) a story from 1974. In 74, Chris bought things for the house with money from Stuart, Snapper is upset and in 81 Chris refurnishes the house with money from Stuart and Snapper is upset. The fact he would bring the pair back with a repeated and rather dull story says a lot. It made more sense in their first year of marriage and built context. Don't think it had the same impact the second time around.

Look into the past - 1975
I am actually leaning towards Jill giving birth on New Years Eve, not Christmas Day. Looking at SOD synopsis, they also have Jill going into labour after Christmas Day. Since Dec 26, 1975 was pre-empted. It means Jill gave birth the week of Dec 29 - Jan 2. Makes more sense as to why Bryna Laub had that plot point at the start of the Jan synopsis.

Oh right, I knew that and totally flubbed, haha Yeah I meant more NBC wasn't willing to or was holding out on streaming the show. I thought that was what Corday meant when he said NBC was not coming to the table. Not that they had any right to distribute, more they had the platform for it, and I was wondering if Corday through Sony has the right to shop a deal around or not. Thanks for clearing that up though
-
Y&R: Old Articles
I think Corday is actually desperate to do that from what I have heard from him. It seems it is NBC that isn't, and I am not sure if Corday has the option to shop the back catalogue around, but honestly if any shows back catalogue is going up, it will most likely be Days. Once Corday finds a way to do it. If Sony has digitized Y&R and B&B then they need to work with Corday and put all three shows up. I do think there is enough interest for a pay streaming service to offset costs, and even if they have to scrub some music, I will accept that to a certain point. As you mentioned The Doctors has done extremely well. Sometimes I feel like we are on the verge of getting more, just not sure when. The CBS reruns have done well enough to show enough people are interested.

Y&R: Old Articles
Agreed. If Sony, P&G, ABC and the other companies that own these soaps got together and put their back catalogues and the current new shows on a Soap Opera Streaming Platform it would work, they might even be able to bring back AMC or OLTL again. It would also allow Days and other soaps that are skating on thin ice on broadcast TV the opportunity to slowly move to an online streaming platform and allow these shows a stronger future.

Look into the past - 1975
There was this whole story about some dictator in Santa Leandro. At this point Leslie was Priscilla and living in another town with Jonas. A man named Sebastian came to ask Lucas and Jonas to help him. The trio (with Leslie stashed away) headed to Santa Leandro. Lucas sees Leslie but realises she has no idea who he is or who she is. He gets shot and goes to hospital. Lance is called and heads back to GC to see his brother. He reunites with Lorie and they have a brief reconcilliation before Lance realises Lorie no longer needs him in her life and he leaves again. There is no mention at all of Lance and Leslie seeing each other. Honestly the whole story and Lance's brief return seemed like a dud. One of the many stories that fell flat in 1980. Pretty sure John McCook left the show early to make a movie in Paris. He may have agreed to return to wrap things up, since Lance just left abruptly. The whole Lorie divorcing Lance story just zoomed by, like the show wasn't ready for John to leave so suddenly. Yeah around Sep 80 it was announced Tom Ligon was off the show. The last mention of him was when he was saying goodbye to Lorie in early Aug. If he appeared again it must have been brief. Not sure he got a goodbye episode. Karen (Andy's ex-wife) also seemed to just vanish as well. Same with Brooks, which we discussed previously in the thread. There is no mention of either Lorie or Leslie taking Brooks. Once Lance (then Dennis Cole) left, Leslie and Lorie seemed to have forgotten Brooks ever existed.

Y&R to air classic episodes
These are the ones I know of Liz had uterine cancer (may have been another form of cancer) and had a hysterectomy (possibly) Bruce and possibly Ma Henderson came to town around that time. Seems to have been May/Jun 73. My guess is Jill and Greg were supporting during this time. I'd guess Jill probably on aired twice a week and maybe sometimes three times depending. Probably a lot of supporting other stories or talking about other stories or wishing she was rich and beautiful. Apparently she and Greg would have arguements around social issues. Greg was supporting to Chris, Snapper and Sally, Brad was also a supporting player in that story too as a confident to Sally as he ended up living above Pierre's across from Sally. The Bruce Henderson / Jennifer Brooks affair story started around summer and is referenced in Bryna Laub's early 1974 synopsis Sally had her summer story which consisted of her ex Frank Martin coming to town to find the daughter they gave up I am guessing Brad and Leslie were slow to move. Probably a lot of spending time together with Leslie slowly coming out of her shell. It was apparently a pygmalion story. I know Leslie went on her first concert tour in fall 73 and Jennifer accompanied her, and spent more time with Bruce The main focus seemed to have been on Chris and Snapper. Below is Chris and Snapper's story from Daily TV Serials as well Jill and Chris both went for a modelling job but left when they heard it was topless, Jill went back and almost took the job. This was before Chris' rape and Gwen Sherman. The photographer was apparently Chris Robinson

@FrenchFan Thank you for looking into Let's Gossip and finding out more. I am just going to keep looking around for it and hopefully something will pop up. Also Soap Bubble Magazine (which is also hard to find) was another mag that had synopsis and Lynda Hirsch was a contributer (or maybe editor??) Until we get episodes trying to track these synopsis down is our best bet. Also thanks for DSN Q&A. I knew Gwen and Jill had a story in 1973, just didn't know the exact details. Glad to have the details more confirmed. All of this is great stuff to have and really appreciate your effort with all this.

Y&R to air classic episodes
I found it but am having trouble posting it. I was half right, he asked Bud Grant to take the show off the air, but only because the ratings were so poor. I mixed that up with another interview where he hated the writing during the writers strike and was not happy with the show during those months, and by writing I mean the daily scripts handled by the non-union writers Here is the part of the interview where he talks about ratings and wanting to cancel the show.
