Mulcahey is definitely a legend, and some of the posts here have made me more excited about his return (I don't hold his GL HW run against him - the show had been stomped into the ground by that point and JFP was just doing whatever to make her pets viable). I do feel like he either won't last long, or we are in a situation comparable to Lorraine Broderick returning to send AMC off.

Sadly, in the back of my mind, this is what I'm thinking as well. However I will take it at face value for now and be optimistic that Patrick and Elizabeth can get the show back to where it belongs, thus reinstating ABC's faith in the show for years to come.

Unpopular opinion but I feel that not only is B&B a a place for retiring talented daytime writers, but so was DAYS with Richard & Carolyn Culliton, and Lorraine Broderick.

I will say this about Dan and Chris, they had me GLUED to my screen during the Cyrus hostage situation with Laura/Porsha/Trina. That was their peak and I will always appreciate the fact that they for a short period of time reinvigorated my interest in a US daytime soap this day and age. They had some good moments; Jason/Brit, Ava's stalking, Spencer's return, and quite a few more. If anything I do hope at least Dan finds another show to write for so we can see what his writing is like without the influence of a meddling network and a EP who's biases are as clear as day.

However it turns out (Malone II v2: Electric Boogaloo being the worst option), it cannot possibly be what we've endured for years. I'll take it.

It’s gonna be a test on whether our favorites that we often sing praises around here for, still got it. I’ll wait and see…(FV is still there)

Thank goodness we don’t have to wait 20 years for their material to start airing (coughDAYScough) 😆

  3. Chris and Dan's writing is almost similar to Josh Griffith's current tenure at Y&R. It's allergic to drama and raising the stakes in a storyline. I wouldn't rate it as bad as Y&R, but both regimes have the same problem. For Chris and Dan they make story decisions that come out of nowhere, and those decisions never tend to be beneficial to the show in the long run. Was there a need to really tamper with Trina's paternity? Was there really a need to drag Willow's cancer out for months? Was there really a need to make a long winded story based on Nina ratting out Carly/Drew to the feds? And if you look at the reason behind they made these decisions; it was to prop the favorites of ABC/Frank and it was done in the most unflattering of ways.

I'm not even excited about Liz getting better writing because ultimately I believe Frank is to blame for the lack of screen time and focus on Liz and her family.

And don’t get me started on the dropping of storylines and picking them up later on when you’ve finally come up with not even a plausible reason or climax. Harmony killing Alexis’s doctor boyfriend? Huh?

  4. I'd actually state that carrying over from the mid to late 80s, soaps started tackling more socially relevant storylines, such as homosexuality and racism in the wake of Rodney King. It seems though that after the OJ Simpson trial (1994/1995), soaps started drifting away from that and going the more sensationalistic route, trying to attract 90210/Melrose Place viewers by the end of the decade.

In 2000 Rob became the Art Director for the CBS-TV daytime drama Guiding Light. He has been nominated for three Emmys for his work on that show. On permanent sets for kitchens, restaurants and hotels with Guiding Light, he has been a part of earthquakes, floods and fires. He then made the transition into handheld, location and exterior work in the show's later years. He was with Guiding light through its last episode in 2009.

I loved this renovation of the Bauer kitchen. It's unfortunate that the set wasn't used more (I seem to recall as soon as Peter Simon left we saw less and less of the Bauer household.)

That isn't the country club. It is Eden's apartment where she initially ran her escort business and then appeared until Deborah Zoe was let go in May, 2004. After Zoe departed, the set underwent reconstruction on air and became much smaller.

I know the younger set (Ben, Remy, Marah, Bill?) moved into the carriage house at some point. Did the carriage house become Orchid Manor? Because Orchid Manor looks just like the set...

Yep, that set is from the Paul Rauch/John Conboy era.

And #3 is definitely Danny and Michelle's mansion.

One of the stars of Can Openers is Josh Casaubon (Hugh Hughes on One Life to Live).   Also seen is David Rasche (Ryan's Hope).

Yummy Josh Casaubon, wish his OLTL character had stayed on longer, he was such nice eye candy to look at. 😍

So I haven't watched the show for years, but I thought Penny hasn't been seen since she was a kid. Do she and Sonia know each other from before? If not, why are she and Sonia having drinks together and chatting like they are BFFs? Especially since Sonia is supposed to be Lauren's friend and Penny just totally screwed Lauren over by planting drugs in her bag.

I'm getting the feeling that because Penny and Sonia are cousins, the show wants us to believe that Penny has been in contact with the Brannings since childhood, just never showing up on the square. I'm not sure if we've seen Penny since she was a kid though.

    From Wiki;

    2009-2023: Mentions

In March 2010, Ronnie asks Jack about Penny and he says she is doing fine without him and that Penny made the right decision to go to France. In October 2013, Jack moves to France to reconnect with Penny, briefly returning to Walford for a visit during Christmas 2015. After Jack permanently returns to Walford, Penny calls Jack in December 2016 to tell him she cannot attend his second wedding to Ronnie because of a doctor's appointment in Paris.

On 18 February 2020, Penny was mentioned by Max Branning when Max and Jack were having a fight.

Oh no they didn’t?? Nina and Aadi kissed.. no way are they going for them? Ugh

I had seen the spoiler for this and it played out how i expected it; ridiculous and unnecessary. I thought they were working on pairing Aadi up with Tracy's daughter.

  10. Guiding Light

    Ben Reade undervalued

Shayne Lewis undervalued. Every time we got a recast it was like a different character compared to the last.

Samantha Marler undervalued/underdeveloped. Pretty crazy how we never heard from her again after her departure in the early 90s.

India took in a kid by the name of Dorie, and India returned three times after her departure in the 80s, and Dorie was never mentioned. Could've been India's Achilles heel of sorts when it came to India's involvement the Spaulding corporate drama over the years.

Matthew Evans was Amanda Spaulding's younger brother (his parents Jennifer and Mark Evans) and could have mixed it up with Michelle Bauer/Ben Reade/Billy Lewis.

Emily Norris was the daughter of Ken Norris and Janet Mason. Ken returned in the late 90s, but the show of course had no interest at the time in it's history. Emily would've added to the Holly/Blake/Roger/Ed dynamic.

William "Billy" Fletcher son of Peggy Scott; instead of introducing Hart Jessupt/Laura Jessup as part of Roger's history would've been quite nice to have Peggy's son return and increasingly become like a surrogate son to Roger with Blake growing jealous while on the outs with Roger.

Andy Norris was written off and sent to jail after blackmailing the residents of Springfield; but I think the show should've brought him back at some point down the road to continue being a headache for both the Spaulding and Lewis families(Andy's history with Trish/his history with Alan).

  11. Sucks that he gets a promotion even though he's a complete and total hack. I just hope this means that with him being moved to a higher position, that we will get a new EP for Coronation Street, sort of like how they have Kate Oates over BBC dramatic programming, but Chris Clenshaw is the EP of EastEnders.

FAST WEEKLY WEEK OF 8/22/77-8/26/77 NOT AVAILABLE

Looks like ATWT fell quite a bit. Impressive numbers for AMC. Another World also rebounding (I wonder why).

I think the last official episode they were credited was the 28th with the bomb going off during the call in show. I remember exactly where I was when I figured out that the Conboy era was going to go straight to hell. I was at a Safeway looking through a copy of SOD and saw that Maureen Garrett was being taken off contract. Rauch for all of the negative things about him always stood up for Holly and Blake/Ross being on contract. And with Holly finally getting more screen time in early 2003 and then that news, I know my enjoyment of the show was going to drop. I just don't think I correctly estimated by how much. The late 2002/early 2003 episodes were the best period of GL that I watched live and I wish like hell it could have continued. I really think the show might have been saved if it had and that's the tragedy.

I agree, the writing and production was good. Everything after that went downhill.
