Always a thrill when Soap Opera Network can grow its posting community at virtually any cost.
Its ridiculous. Out of the 15 years of being here, I've never placed anybody on ignore until now.

Before anything, I have to say… A Marlena/Maggie scene!!!!!!!
It was brief but I honestly never thought we’d see one of those again. As unnecessary as the fire was and always will be, today was absolutely beautiful. One of those episodes that really shows you and tells you what soap opera is. And despite Chad saying that the house was gone, I love that it’s still standing and that Tom and Alice’s chair… and the Christmas ornaments both survived!!!!!!!
Even Leo was good in today’s episode. I was worried he was gonna ruin everything but the scenes of him learning the history of the Hortons and the ending narration with him were really nice. This is the first time I’ve actually liked him in years. Goes to show you what writing can do lol as obsessed as Ron is with him, I think we can add Greg Rikaart to the list of people that he owes an apology to.
Didn’t expect to see Lucas either but I’m glad that he was a part of today. As one of the few remaining Hortons on the canvas, he deserved to be there. Hopefully, we get some more visits as part of this storyline and that
And I really enjoyed the flashbacks of young Tom and Alice, starting their family and moving into the house. They got the history of the Christmas ornaments wrong lol but all of those scenes were written and staged really well. The actress that played young Alice really stood out to me. Idk if she watched old episodes of Frances Reid or something but she really did seem to capture the spirit of Alice.
Just a great episode all around.
And I admit, I teared up when we found out that the Christmas ornaments survived. And when Doug and Julie sang ‘Always’
I can't wait to watch, it sounds lovely. Love it when DAYS does the family oriented episodes.

Nice to see DAYS gaining momentum. OLTL is also a force to be reckoned with as well.

I wonder what the parallels if any of the ups and downs of ATWT and it having an affect on GL's ratings.

Absolutely gripping episode. There's not much more I can say about about the Feb. 14th episode, that hasn't been said already. I loved the added depth to Gina and Anna's relationship with the discussion of colorism. The actors playing Eddie and Gloria are also knocking it out of the park. Colin Salmon has been nothing short of remarkable since his arrival, and EE must do everything in its power to keep him for a long time. I even tolerated Elaine's character who tends to be theatrical during much of her screen time. Great work to the EE production, writing, and cast for airing such a moving episode.

Someone pointed out that ever being caught off guard in 2016, it's obvious that pollsters have been oversampling Republican's ever since.

I have such a hard time getting upset at the Horton house "burning down" because you know it'll be the same set with a new coat of paint, maybe reupholstered furniture if they really feel like making a splash in the budget.
Right. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this plays out with Julie/Doug, and in the end we'll definitely will get a scene where family and friends of the Hortons gather to celebrate the "refurbished" Horton home.

Diane Parish has been awesome with this material.
Since taking over I do admire how Chris Clenshaw has catapulted Diane Parish to the forefront of the show; she never fails to deliver.

This is so disappointing.

If he's not bad as an actor, I don't see why the show couldn't have just cast him as Steven Weber. But then again that would mean increased screen time for Liz.

Annie Lennox really did Sinead O'Connor justice by her performance.
Loved Miley's performance and wins. (And the shade she threw at Billy Ray by not mentioning him at all)
While I listened to SZA's album all last year, was kind of disappointed by her performance.

Did DePriest do a serial killer on The Doctors?
I am watching the show on the It's real good TV app. I haven't got to her stint as Headwriter yet. I am still watching the Pollocks. They do a lot of recapping. Unlike Rita Lakin ,Rick Edelstein or Ira Avery.
No she did not. Expect the pace to pick up under her though.

Rest in Peace Carl Weathers

Days really knows how to cast it's younger actors. Tate and Holly's portrayers were definitely quite the find.

Alfie's prostate cancer storyline has surprisingly turned out to be a well written story, despite how it's been on the backburner for the past month or so. When the show writes Alfie as a real human being, instead of a cartoon, Shane Ritchie delivers. Linda and Alfie's friendship continues to be one of the bright spots on the show.

Thanks for these Matt, I see we're nearing one of the most legendary moments for GL and Meta.

Josh Griffith is writing Y&R with very little understanding about what made Y&R, well Y&R. Yes the show was at times about business takeovers and etc., but it was detailed, there were high stakes involved, and often it was the backdrop of a much bigger story playing out. Josh is just lazily writing what he thinks is corporate intrigue in the 21st century, with very little detail, and boring scripts that lead to nowhere including buzzwords such as "merger", "take over", "CEO, CFO, etc". It's as if ChatGPT is writing the script with the direction to pen business stories on a soap. So bland, uninspiring, and lacking any depth.

Did they ever try pairing Bradley Cole's Jeffrey with Nicole Forester's Cassie? I can't recall.
My memory is foggy around this time period, but I don't believe they ever did. When NF took over I recall she was in the middle of that abysmal pairing with Josh, which to be honest I would've taken Jeffrey/Cassie over Josh/Cassie just to avoid the character assassination. The show was laser focused on making Josh/Cassie work, and then they started focusing on Josh becoming a reverend; while the show tried to pair Jeffrey with Blake and Mel, before settling on Reva. I get just seasick recalling those all those ridiculous pairings under Wheeler and Co.

GL - Bradley Cole playing Prince Richard and then Jeffrey. I leave it up to others to decide if it worked since I preferred Edmund/DAM anyway.
Yeah Jeffrey sucked, and no way he should have lasted that long (until the show's cancellation and being paired up with Reva made it worse). Taggart and Co. were right to kill off Richard the first time around. And it's funny how Richard was brought back in the form of Jeffrey to appease RASSIE fans, but for a majority of Jeffrey's run the show spent pairing him up with everyone except Cassie. (They briefly hooked up but it was blink and you miss it kind of thing)

Yesterday January 25, 2024 would've been Guiding Light's 87th Anniversary. Happy Belated Birthday

I'm just making an educated assumption here, but soaps normally do celebrate a character's 18th birthday and make a big hoopla about it. It's rare that they make a big event of ones 21st birthday.

Mulcahey is definitely a legend, and some of the posts here have made me more excited about his return (I don't hold his GL HW run against him - the show had been stomped into the ground by that point and JFP was just doing whatever to make her pets viable). I do feel like he either won't last long, or we are in a situation comparable to Lorraine Broderick returning to send AMC off.
Sadly, in the back of my mind, this is what I'm thinking as well. However I will take it at face value for now and be optimistic that Patrick and Elizabeth can get the show back to where it belongs, thus reinstating ABC's faith in the show for years to come.
Unpopular opinion but I feel that not only is B&B a a place for retiring talented daytime writers, but so was DAYS with Richard & Carolyn Culliton, and Lorraine Broderick.
I will say this about Dan and Chris, they had me GLUED to my screen during the Cyrus hostage situation with Laura/Porsha/Trina. That was their peak and I will always appreciate the fact that they for a short period of time reinvigorated my interest in a US daytime soap this day and age. They had some good moments; Jason/Brit, Ava's stalking, Spencer's return, and quite a few more. If anything I do hope at least Dan finds another show to write for so we can see what his writing is like without the influence of a meddling network and a EP who's biases are as clear as day.0

I wonder if some of that can be chalked up to the exit of Harley Venton's character, Derek Colby? From some of the summaries of GL in 1982 but I can't help but to think Marland had major plans for the character and perhaps Derek and Vanessa were going to be endgame had Marland continued writing for the show (and the show had kept on Derek's character). Pairing up Vanessa's firery vixen character with the straight laced and by the book Derek Colby would've gained quite the following I imagine.
