  1. That's letting Trump dictate the coverage. The media wants cheap laughs to remind everyone how smart, important, and cool they are. Policy, executive orders, etc. is boring in comparison.
  2. The question I have is why the media even cares at this point when there's so much else to worry about. I guess it's all about them, as always.
  3. Yeah - it's easy to forget now that he's been out of the spotlight for so long how petty much of his first term in particular was. But I think on some level he was a decent human being - the problem is when you surround yourself with people like Karl Rove, that doesn't matter.
  4. So apparently there was a shooting at one of the protests today - I hope everyone stays safe. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/milo-yiannopoulos-protest-shooting-233962
  5. I couldn't understand a word that boy or his mother said. I thought I was watching a ventriloquist act gone wrong. Some of the worst acting I've ever seen on Eastenders. And the random story of Louise being set up and taunted over Peggy's death (when she hasn't mentioned Peggy in many months) - it came out of nowhere. And what a lovely message to have a black teenager as the one harassing white girls. Apparently they are pushing more teen stories to raise ratings - good luck with that! Kim is just a selfish brat who is trying to make the baby have a life she never had. Did you see how disappointed she was when Dona wasn't bitter about being adopted? Everything with Jack, Glenda, Sharon, Danny, etc. was poor. Sharon should have shut up. The scene where Jack beat Danny's ass and Max coldly watched should have been disturbing but instead it was hilarious as it was so badly done. One of the only good scenes was Sal taunting Glenda until she ran out of the church. Whitney is desperate to find reasons to drag Lee down and get into Mick's pants. They've just about ruined her. The show has a lot of hostility toward female characters.
  6. Thanks. I appreciate the insight. It sounds like the exact thing that leads so many to feel disillusioned. I know some here are going to the march and I respect them a great deal, but anything involving Bernie supporters always makes me wary.
  7. Same old same old... http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/womens-march-dc-democratic-tensions-233945?lo=ap_a1
  8. I really shouldn't have laughed at this... http://www.theonion.com/article/jimmy-carter-contemplating-dying-right-here-and-no-55098
  9. The main difference with the Hillman story and this is it was a gradual build as Richard seemed like a decent man at first, if slightly shady. Phelan started out as a rapist and villain. It's made no sense that the show has essentially had most of the street ignore that. And none of them even cared when he ripped off their money. It's just lazy writing. And they fired the actor who played Andy - who was so gorgeous and so talented - for this [!@#$%^&*]. All while bootleg Ross barton (Adam) sneers his way through scenes. I find the show unwatchable.
  10. Not that I approve of the banning but why are they using an official account for something like that anyway?
  11. I can't begin to guess on that, it's just her demeanor - fragile, weird, hyped-up. I don't know. Something always seems a bit off whenever I see her. It's one of the reasons I avoid watching her. There are a lot of users and fakers around Trump but she's one of those in his circle that I'm genuinely a bit freaked out by.
  12. She always reminds me of Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a Dream...
  13. In the case of Brexit a lot of the attention went to the Farage hysteria about borders and Syria, but a lot of the everyday job losses that likely tipped votes involved voters who resented many from places like Poland and other Baltic states that have become such a part of the UK in the last few decades. They were also subject to intense harassment post-Brexit, they were told "We're sending you back," and so on. It was a mirror of what happened in the US where a lot of anti-Trump attention mostly went to saying "racist" or "you hate women" without enough time addressing the other economic fears that led many into the voting booth.
  14. For some reason the article contradicts itself partway through: The website’s sections on LGBT, civil rights, and health-care are nowhere to be found. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re never coming back though. The website for the Domestic Policy Council is also down and we know it’s going to live on in under Trump. He’s already appointed someone to lead it.
  15. Given that they're depending on Trump for a trade deal post-Brexit, I'm not sure they should brag about it...
  16. "Jesus wept" might have been more appropriate...
  17. I don't think he has those types of feelings for her, it's all in her head, but this show has proven me wrong too many times before. I was glad Denise calmly shut Kim down. What a selfish person Kim is - an overgrown child. She doesn't deserve Denise in her life. She will chase away her husband too. Phil was even more offputting than usual. He can barely contain his loathing of Sharon, and his little cult barely even speak these days. If that is Lisa on the phone (if only) I hope she puts another cap in his ass. Scott Maslen was not good at all in that coffin scene. He is better at shorter/angrier moments. With less clothes.

  19. Isn't his approval rating like 30% or 35%? I doubt he'll be getting 30-35 million viewers so surely that won't be difficult.
  20. Those photos are very chilling, aren't they?
  21. It gets Trump attention. I'm sure he hates being criticized, but it's also a way to have people notice him, show how tough he is, and all that crap. We're hearing about his plans against NPR, PBS, etc. that were mostly muted about him during the election. We hear him rage at CNN, which was deferential to him many times. Yet I haven't heard of him taking any action against SNL beyond tweet tantrums. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. And Alec Baldwin getting his face out there more and more lately makes me think he sees it too.
  22. I think he's going to be a very part-time President, other than settling grudges, attention-seeking, etc. Do we know if he's even going to live at the White House? My mother asked me and I have no idea. I know Melania won't be. I guess the one upside to this is that those who make such money and obsess so much over the whole celebrity and style side of it will have to find other shiny objects. I hope those who loved to shame Michelle Obama for not wearing the right outfits and not being the right "type" to wear their clothes will enjoy the next 4 years.
  23. I think he wanted to help people, and he (along with many others in Washington) felt Carter was in way over his head. Your mother knows a lot more about him and his campaign than I do, so I trust her judgment over mine. I just remember the Roger Mudd interview he had which was such a mess. That made me feel it was something he knew he was supposed to do but couldn't quite do.
