  1. I can't believe that people really fell for these. Why am I not surprised that Sid Blumenthal, who caused so many headaches for Hillary, was one of them. http://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/2017/02/london-review-of-books-cites-fred-trump-ads-that-appear-to-be-fake-234901
  2. The Carter story has been the same scene over and over for months, with any story progression shoved into 1-2 episodes before they go back to status quo. The highlight has been the extended period of time where Lee wore very tight suit trousers and there were extended looks at his ass and crotch. Have you gotten to the episode where Sharon cancels their flat and begs them to stay, and it's all basically framed as oh what a pathetic loser Sharon is, how do the men put up with her? The writing for her is so degrading.
  3. It wasn't a reply to you - I was saying i can't understand why her husband is going to get such a big job.
  4. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/chuck-cooper-solicitor-general-withdraws-consideration-234869 Really? Why??? Chuck Cooper, the conservative Supreme Court litigator, is withdrawing his name from consideration to be the next solicitor general, opening the door for the husband of Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway to be appointed to the role.
  5. Jenna doesn't have the grit that Sue Tully had as Michelle. She seems aimless. I feel like they brought Michelle back just because a producer wanted to do it, not for a reason. That scene with Ben and Jay was one of the more blatant where I saw a sexual connection (one of the other main ones is a few years ago where they were hugging in the garage and Jay lifted his shirt to wipe his brow and show us his killer abs). Sonia is in Kettering, working as a nurse. Natalie Cassidy left for maternity leave last September. Louise has so many personalities yet I don't believe any of them.
  6. You mean you don't believe it when they call each other "bruv" 50 times an episode? This all really started when they had Ben nearly kiss Jay, and then began giving him emotional scenes with Jay (Ben and Jay rarely had those before this last recast - Ben hated Jay for a while and then Jay was mostly creeped out by him). The romantic and sexual chemistry flew off the screen, even as the show sees them as brothers, as do the actors. I doubt they will ever let it happen, but I wish they would. I won't spoil it for you but I do hope to hear your thoughts on some of this past episode (the first episode)...especially the last scene. Do you enjoy any of the teen material? I've started just skipping them.
  7. Surely we have enough scenes of one-note bitchy gays pining over straight men.
  8. I don’t really expect anything from Greg Berlanti, but I’m saddened that Archie Comics would take a character they created to try to show diversity and acceptance and, at a time when racism is more openly accepted and encouraged than it has been in a number of years, retool him as some walking stereotype for white viewers to feel comfortable hating, laughing at, seeing get tortured, and so on. But at least we have all those other great characterizations for black men or black people on television... Yet I imagine I’ll still have to read endless articles about how diverse this show is...
  9. For me it's not so much about sympathy as it is understanding their voting process for elections in 2 or 4 years. That's what I mostly disagree with, when people (not here) say those voters are lost because they exist solely to vote for hate. I just think a lot of them for various reasons (some race and gender-motivated, some not) didn't get it. And if they still don't when the elections roll around again, then the rest of us are even more fucked. I think Democrats have done a terrible job discussing trade and job losses, and they can't afford to in the way that Republicans can, because Republicans simply know how to get the turnout and base and how to pick up last minute voters and also how to brutally suppress countless votes. Democrats don't have any of those tools at their disposal, so every vote counts. It still saddens me that so many on the left didn't understand that last year. I suppose some never will.
  10. Even after the last few weeks we are still getting Beltway hacks pleading about why can't we all be friends, and weeping over the glory that is media darling Marco. It's astonishing. Actually it's not - this is what they do to make themselves feel like they aren't complete failures - but it's pretty damn sad. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/02/09/marco-rubio-just-gave-a-really-important-speech-but-almost-no-one-paid-attention/
  11. There's often this idea that anyone who supports Trump is a hatemonger who will never support anything but the worst (self-congratulatory liberals who post at bubbles like AV Club or Daily Kos are especially adept at this view), but there truly were a lot of people who just felt they had no choice, and voted for him with some reluctance. I don't get it, I never will, but I do hope that, if we are even allowed to vote in 4 years, that the Democrats find someone who can find the right way to communicate, and more importantly, not just run as the anti-Trump. I kept wondering if they were going to interview Kimberlin Brown
  12. I haven't watched it as of yet but Alicia Witt had a big guest role on Supernatural last week.

  14. The only thing courageous about CNN is that Jeff Zucker can get out of bed in the morning after what he did. The media isn't some brave, noble warrior roused from years of inaction. They aren't even Keanu Reeves in that movie where he got upset because someone shot the dog. They essentially say, "You weren't very nice to the dog," and then go find other people who shot dogs to remind themselves and everyone else that it's not a big deal.
  15. To me they aren't really pointing out anything, they're just doing what they always do, which is to make it all about them - if not for all the leaks coming their way I'm not sure where we'd be. But we can agree to disagree.
  16. It's not really reporting though, it's faux-outrage over something that is there to distract them. They'd be better off just ignoring Sean Spicer instead of repeatedly letting him become the story.
  17. They were wrong 15 years ago when they let the public believe these games were acceptable. Too late to go back now.
  18. How annoying to see the press clutching their chests over Spicer saying criticizing the raid is disrespectful to the dead Navy SEAL when they didn't say a word while Rove pushed this line throughout W's first term and much of his second. They don't give a damn about these games as long as they are in the loop. Only when they aren't do they throw their toys around. Pathetic.
  19. That Ashley Peterson one and the one spoofing our worthless media are the funniest.
  20. A moving story of an Iraqi translator and his family, and their attempts to get into the US. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-38885611
