  1. That's Chandler? If so, I have to say, "yum!"
  2. She was a "legacy presenter," according to the face sheet they provided. I don't know what that thing was all about but it and the gold & silver circle honor were new things added this year.
  3. I am not addressing, responding to or commenting specifically on any particular topic that was brought up with a political slant, but I will say this: DO NOT BRING POLITICS INTO THIS THREAD. There is a thread for all that (go find it yourself) Regardless of their political leanings, this is not the place for it. I don't care if you like Biden or Trump. MAGA or YES, WE CAN! This is not the place for any B.S.
  4. It needs not to be a primetime show. It'll die quickly that way. Either it goes back to ABC in a traditional slot with 250 episodes or it goes to streaming ala Days of our Lives on Peacock. Anything else and it won't be worth it.

  6. Six months after it was originally scheduled to air, two Hollywood strikes and a last-minute scheduling switch, “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” finally took place on Friday, December 15. While viewership was down significantly from last year’s CBS telecast, relatively speaking, there wasn’t much that could be asked for from an awards show that typically took place in the early parts of the summer compared to this year’s chilly December. Additionally, viewers could stream the awards show via Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, numbers of which won’t be disclosed unless provided by CBS and/or Paramount. In the key Adults 18-49 demographic, which is where CBS makes its money, the awards show kept itself mostly on par with previous performances, more specifically since the show began airing almost exclusively on the network in 2020. According to the Programming Insider website, Friday’s broadcast averaged 2.03 million viewers and a 0.14 rating in Adults 18-49. Among Adults 25-54, the two-hour show averaged a 0.19 rating. Meanwhile, among Adults 18-34, the show averaged a 0.09 demo rating. Viewership peaked in the 9:00 p.m. half-hour with 2.12 million viewers tuned in, followed by the 10:00 p.m. half-hour at 2.08 million viewers. The first hour rated the best among Adults 18-49 (0.16 rating) and Adults 25-54 (0.20 rating). Compared to last year’s telecast, the awards show was down -770,000 viewers and slightly down among Adults 18-49 when it did a 0.2 rating in the demo. CBS aired “The National Christmas Tree Lighting” as a lead-in this year, which averaged just 2.13 million viewers and a 0.16 rating among Adults 18-49, leaving the Daytime Emmys not much to work with. That said, as shown by a breakdown provided during the 2021 telecast of “The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” viewers still managed to tune into the awards show even after seven days. That year’s broadcast saw an uptick of nearly +300,000 viewers within seven days of its original airing. For the night, CBS averaged 2.07 million viewers and a 0.15 rating in Adults 18-49, placing the network fourth among the five broadcast networks. ABC topped the night with a 2.95 million viewer average, led by an original airing of “Shark Tank” (3.14 million), followed by NBC, which averaged 2.52 million viewers thanks to its rebroadcast of “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” (2.73 million). FOX ranked third with its airing of “WWE Friday Night Smackdown” (2.15 million viewers). The CW aired “The 91st Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade,” which averaged a mere 550,000 viewers and a 0.06 rating in Adults 18-49 to place the network in fifth place. Since 2022, the Daytime Emmy Awards have taken place on Friday nights from 9:00-11:00 p.m. In 2020 and 2021, the awards show aired on Friday nights from 8:00-10:00 p.m., a significant difference in scheduling when considering lead-ins. What follows is a breakdown of how the Daytime Emmys has performed on CBS in recent years: “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” (CBS) Total Viewers – 2.03 million Adults 18-49 – 0.14 rating Adults 25-54 – 0.19 rating Adults 18-34 – 0.09 rating “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” (CBS) Total Viewers – 2.80 million Adults 18-49 – 0.2 rating “The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” (CBS) Total Viewers (Live+Same Day) – 2.528 million Adults 18-49 (Live+Same Day) – 0.23 rating Total Viewers (Live+7) – 2.813 million Adults 18-49 (Live+7) – 0.25 rating “The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” (CBS) Total Viewers – 3.04 million Adults 18-49 – 0.3 rating The numbers above are calculated using Live+Same Day viewing and DVR playback, defined as 3:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. and are courtesy of Nielsen. Household ratings are the percentage of TV homes in the U.S. tuned into television, each of which represents 1,250,000 homes as of the 2023-2024 television season. 9. Famously winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series after 19 nominations in 1999, Susan Lucci was honored Friday night by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with the Lifetime Achievement Award during “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.” Shemar Moore presented the award to Lucci nearly 25 years after stating the much-quoted words, “The streak is over, Susan Lucci!” At the beginning of her acceptance speech, Lucci reflected on her landing the role of Erica Kane on “All My Children,” saying, “How lucky was I to be put in the hands of [the late] Agnes Nixon. Agnes was the trailblazer. She was the visionary storyteller who gave me the part of a lifetime. The fabulously flawed Erica Kane.” Shemar Moore, Susan Lucci Michael Mattes/michaelmattes.co With her decades-long career in daytime, Lucci shared, “I am so proud to be part of this community. This community of storytellers, in such a collaborative genre of writers, directors, producers, actors, design teams and crew. We get to do what we love to do. We get to entertain, and we tell stories. And in that, we illuminate our human condition. And sometimes on our best days. Even make a little magic.” The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Taking time to thank her family, including her son Andreas Huber and her late husband Helmut Huber, who passed away in 2022, Lucci said, “The icing on the cake for me tonight is that my son Andreas is with me. It means so much to me to have you here with me. Thank you so much for being with me tonight. And you know what else? I feel your dad’s presence here tonight with us, too. I thank my husband, Helmut Huber, because he has everything to do with my standing up here tonight. And receiving this incredible award.” Watch Lucci’s acceptance speech below. 10. Regarding ratings, the standard isn't to be compared to the other shows aired on other networks that night but to be compared to what else aired on the network that night or that week. Considering its lead-in, the Emmys had limited audience to work with from the start. Despite what I said above, I'm most interested in seeing how the GH primetime special does compared to the Emmys, simply because one will get a higher anticipated audience and likely better promo while the other was slotted more last minute and had to scramble to get things together.
  11. During CBS’ Broadcast of “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” on Friday, December 15, ABC’s “General Hospital” led the pack, taking home six statues, including sweeping much of the acting categories along with Directing and Drama Series. “The Bold and the Beautiful” tied with “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in taking home two golden trophies. The awards show was hosted by Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner from “Entertainment Tonights” and featured a special performance by Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Jennifer Nettles. Susan Lucci (All My Children”) was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. “Congratulations to all of tonight’s winners for their exceptional contributions to the world of daytime. Tonight, as we commemorated our 50th anniversary with the legends of television, we were thrilled to celebrate Susan Lucci with a Lifetime Achievement Honor, as she has left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of viewers,” said Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS, in a statement. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Susan Lucci by Shemar Moore (“S.W.A.T.,” “The Young and the Restless”) in an awards show reunion for the duo. Moore famously presented Ms. Lucci her Daytime Emmy Award in 1999 after she had been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress category a record 19 times for her portrayal of Erica Kane on “All My Children.” At the time of opening the envelope, Moore famously exclaimed, “The streak is over, Susan Lucci!” in what is frequently cited as one of the greatest awards show moments in history. Connie Chung presented the In Memoriam segment, which paid tribute to the stars and contributors in the daytime field who we lost this past year. Taking a moment to honor Barabara Walters, the legendary broadcast journalist who passed away December 30, 2022, Chung then introduced Jennifer Nettles, who performed “Life is Sweet,” a song originally premiered by Nettles on the television show “American Anthems” produced by NBC Universal Syndication Studios and Believe Entertainment. Among the award wins for the night, Sonya Eddy won a posthumous acting award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress for her role as Epiphany Johnson on “General Hospital.” Also winning a posthumous award was Nneka Garland, who won as a producer on “General Hospital” when the show took home the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series statue, which extends the show’s record to 16 wins. Alley Mills, best known for her long-running role in “The Wonder Years,” won her first-ever Emmy from her first-ever nomination, winning in the Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series category for her portrayal of Heather Webber on “General Hospital.” Although he was not in attendance at the ceremony, Thorsten Kaye won his first-ever Emmy in seven nominations in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor for his role as Ridge Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” The show’s executive producer, Bradley P. Bell, accepted the award for Kaye. Nominated in 2021 and 2020 in the same category for his work on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Kaye previously received Lead Actor nominations for his work on “All My Children” (as Zach Slater) and “Port Charles” (as Ian Thornhart) What follows is a breakdown of the awards categories and statues handed out during the CBS broadcast of “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.” Additional award wins are being announced during the Daytime Creative Arts Ceremony on Saturday. 15. Alan Locher’s ‘The Locher Room’ to Host A Salute to Soap Opera Digest With Former Editors in Charge of Publication https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2023/12/alan-locher-the-locher-room-a-salute-to-soap-opera-digest-berlin-leahey-sloane
  16. On Friday, December 22, Alan Locher, host of “The Locher Room,” will welcome former Soap Opera Digest editors Meredith Berlin, Lynn Leahey and Stephanie Sloane for a live interview as they look back at their time helming the iconic magazine which last month shipped its final issue after nearly 50 years as a print publication. Despite the shuttering of the print edition, the brand continues as a digital website with much of the same features found in the magazine. After working at the magazine as a features writer, Berlin was named editor-in-chief of Soap Opera Digest in 1981, making her the youngest person in the country at the time to hold that title at a magazine. Leahey began her journey at Digest in 1987 when she joined as a managing editor. By 1991, she had been named editor-in-chief of the magazine. During her reign, Leahey shifted the magazine from a bi-weekly release schedule to weekly and was an executive producer at Dick Clark Production, which oversaw the Soap Opera Digest Awards. This primetime television special celebrated fan favorites and aired primarily on NBC. Leahey also helped launch the website edition of the magazine. By 2000, Leahey’s title was changed to editorial director during a time in which the magazine and its counterpart, Soap Opera Weekly, were owned by Source Interlink. In addition to overseeing Digest and Weekly, Leahey oversaw new magazine brands and one-offs, including Harmony, Pixie, and Personal Journey. PREMIO STOCK/Shutterstock Following Leahey’s decision to step down as editorial director in 2011, Sloane was elevated to editor-in-chief of both magazines. Her title was later changed to VP, editorial director under new owner American Media (now a360media). She oversaw the final year of Soap Opera Weekly, which shuttered in April 2012, and what would be the final years of Soap Opera Digest as a print magazine. Sloane got her start at Digest straight out of college in 1990. At the time, she was tasked to be the assistant to both Berlin and Leahey during their respective time in charge of the magazine. Overall, Sloane spent 33 years at the magazine. Since its launch in 1975, Digest was the go-to magazine for all daytime fans to read and learn more about their favorite storylines, actors, characters, and behind-the-scenes scoop. It would be nearly impossible not to find a single bedroom, closet, basement, garage and/or storage unit that is lined with past issues of this magazine. So, on Friday, December 22 at 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT, make sure to spend some time reminiscing with the ladies who spearheaded the brand for much of its lifetime when Alan Locher hosted a salute to Soap Opera Digest. In addition to Moore, other presenters throughout the evening will include stars from “The Bay,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “The Talk” and “The Young and the Restless,” along with Lifetime Achievement Award winner Maury Povich and his wife Connie Chung, who both will make a special appearance as they present the Gold & Silver Circle honorees and the In Memoriam tribute, respectively. 20. Best known to millions of CBS daytime fans as “Clarence,” a cool, well-dressed character with an extensive hat collection who provided a streetwise summary of soap opera highlights each week, actor Brad Senders is set to reprise the role on “The Young and the Restless” when he makes a special appearance on the Wednesday, December 27 episode of the daytime drama series. A comedian, actor and writer, Sanders is best known for the radio soap opera “It’s Your World” and for portraying Clarence in the popular series “The Clarence Update,” for which he received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations as writer/performer in the New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment category. He shared the nominations with “The Bold and the Beautiful” head writer/executive producer Bradley Bell and supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk. A Chicago native, Sanders attended Columbia College where he majored in television and radio production. After college, he moved to Los Angeles to further his career. Sanders is the owner and president of Babysitters Productions, the company he founded in 1989, which produced “The Clarence Update” and another online feature, “An Inside Look at the News Inside the News,” a news/comedy segment. As for “It’s Your World,” the show was a fully produced short-form radio soap opera that aired daily on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” for over 16 years. Co-created with comedian Myra Jay, “It’s Your World” showcased Sanders’ writing and production talents and was a national hit. Outside of the entertainment industry, Sanders co-founded “Be Good to Women Day” in 2003 alongside Deya Smith in response to the thousands of letters, phone calls and emails he’d received from abused and discouraged women. The annual prayer vigil and community forum is designed to honor women while addressing their safety and health issues. “Our mission: To eliminate negative words, images, and behaviors toward women and girls while promoting equality, respect and love through education and advocacy,” Sanders said of the purpose of “Be Good to Women Day.” He added, “Women are essential to the wellbeing of humanity. Women provide love. Nobody loves like a woman.” In addition to “The Young and the Restless,” look for Sanders to appear in the upcoming movie musical, “The Color Purple,” which is set for release in theaters on Monday, December 25. Sanders has appeared in numerous movies and television shows since his soap days, including appearing in episodes of “The Vampire Diaries,” “Scream: The TV Series,” “Black Lightning” and more recently, “The Wonder Years,” and in the movies “Drumline: A New Beat,” “Barbershop: The Next Cut,” “Just Mercy,” “Bad Boys for Life,” among others. 24. Right. That's why I asked if people got laid off or something. It is odd. This makes it two weeks in a row we don't have a promo (as of this writing). Usually the promos are out on Saturday or Sunday mornings. The B&B promo stands out in that it was done in house. Just curious if something more is going on than we know.
  25. Did CBS go cheap all of a sudden? Starting with Colleen Zenk's joining the show, CBS seems to be giving up on properly coordinated promos for the soaps. When I say properly, I mean the network having a promo department that does this as their job. Did CBS/Paramount conduct layoffs recently? Or is this just because of the holidays? It just seems odd, IMO. Maybe I'm imagining things...
