  1. Although news of his exit from “General Hospital” was first announced in December, with his character being killed off after being injected with digitalis by Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), actor Evan Hofer has now officially exited the daytime drama series with his name removed from the show’s contract cast list as shown at the end of the Friday, February 28 episode. The change in status comes as Hofer continued appearing on the series, often in flashbacks and mourning scenes involving Dex’s girlfriend, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), despite remaining a corpse. He most recently appeared in a flashback where Cyrus removed Dex’s hospital band while his body was in the General Hospital morgue. Making his daytime debut in the soap opera’s May 6, 2022 episode, Hofer’s name had appeared on the contract list between cast members Josh Kelly (Cody Bell) and Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine). Earlier this week, the meet the cast page on the show’s official website was updated with the removal of former contract cast, including Hofer, Tajh Bellow (TJ Ashford), Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos), Charles Mesure (ex-Jack Brennan) and Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall). Despite being off contract, there’s no word yet on whether this is the last we have seen of Dex Heller in Port Charles. That said, it’s unlikely the character will be alive if he does return. Before joining “General Hospital,” Hofer made his onscreen debut in the 2010 film “Everyday Kid.” One year later, he began his run as Randy in the Disney XD original series “Kickin’ It.” His additional TV credits include appearances in episodes of “Modern Family,” “The Haunted Hathaways” and “Lethal Weapon,” among others. In 2018, Hofer co-starred in the film “Run the Race,” which followed two brothers in a small Southern town facing escalating problems with two different worldviews, straining – but ultimately strengthening – the bonds of brotherhood. The movie also starred Tanner Stine, Frances Fisher, Kristoffer Polaha, Mario Van Peebles and Mykelti Williamson, among others. From 2019-2021, he starred in the BYUtv series “Dwight in Shining Armor,” a modern take on what would happen if the middle ages came to middle America. Hofer played the role of Chlodwig, whose job is to train Dwight (Sloane Morgan Siegel) in knighthood. 2. James Houghton, best known to soap fans for his role as Kenny Ward on “Knots Landing” and a four-time Daytime Emmy Award-winning writer on “The Young and the Restless,” has died. He was 75 years old. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the beloved actor and writer passed away at his home in Encino, California on August 27, 2024 of peritoneal mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the lining of the abdomen, known as the peritoneum. His death was only recently disclosed by his wife, Karen Houghton, the outlet reported, stating, “She did not want to discuss his death until today.” Born James Carter Houghton on November 7, 1948 in Los Angeles, Houghton was the son of Buck Houghton, a producer on the first three seasons of CBS’ “The Twilight Zone.” That connection helped land the then younger Houghton a role in a 1962 episode of “The Last Rites of Jeff Myrtlebank,” marking one of his first onscreen appearances. Among his memorable roles on television, Houghton portrayed Greg Foster on “The Young and the Restless” from 1973-1976, and had roles on such shows as “Dynasty,” “Code R,” “Barnaby Jones,” “Fantasy Island,” “Hotel,” “The Love Boat,” “The Colbys” and “Remington Steele,” among others. On “Knots Landing,” Houghton’s portrayal of record producer Kenny Ward from 1979-1983 amounted to his appearance in 66 episodes of the hit CBS primetime soap opera, playing opposite onscreen wife, Kim Lankford, who played Ginger. Their characters were one of the original four couples living in the fictional California-based cul-de-sac. Outside of acting, Houghton segued into television writing when he landed a script writing position at “Days of our Lives” in 1981. He would go on to write scripts for “Knots Landing” and the series “Tales from the Darkside.” Starting in 1991, he landed another writing position, this time as a script writer on “The Young and the Restless,” working under the show’s then head writer and co-creator, the late William J. Bell. Houghton remained a writer for the long-running series until 2006, having written close to 2,000 episodes and maintaining such positions as breakdown writer and associate head writer before eventually landing his final writing credit at “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the sister soap of “The Young and the Restless” which was also created by Bell. During his brief time at the half-hour soap opera, Houghton worked under the show’s head writer and executive producer, Bradley P. Bell. Houghton won four Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on “The Young and the Restless,” taking home the statue alongside the show’s team of writers in 1992, 1997, 2000 and 2006. Throughout his long run at the series, he received 13 nominations overall, while also taking home two Writers Guild Awards for his work out of four nominations. Houghton is survived by his wife, Karen; his sister Mona, who he co-wrote three episodes of “Knots Landing” in 1982; his mother, Wanda; his children, Daniel and Alisa; his son-in-law, Jim; and his grandson, Milo. 6. First announced earlier this month, actor Jon Lindstrom (“General Hospital,” “Port Charles”) has joined the cast of “Beyond the Gates” in the recurring role of Joey Armstrong, a casino owner who doesn’t like trouble but has no problem with getting rid of it. Lindstrom debuts in the Friday, March 7 episode of the daytime drama series with his character sharing his first scenes with Doug McBride, played by Jason Graham, who is also on recurring status with the series. During a press junket last month, Lindstrom said of his character, “I would describe Joey as a bit of an entrepreneur in a kind way. Joey comes from the other side of the tracks. He has fought his way up in many ways but he’s never lost his charm.” Additionally, Lindstrom says, “Joey runs a casino, which if you’ve ever been inside a casino, you know, a casino is kind of like what a bar is to an alcoholic. So, people can get into a lot of trouble around Joey, and Joey doesn’t like trouble. He knows how to end trouble, but he doesn’t like trouble.” One of the things that drew Lindstrom to the role was his connection to series creator Michele Val Jean, who also serves as the show’s head writer, showrunner and executive producer. “Everybody knows that Michele is the best writer in the business, and they don’t want to admit it, especially if they’re another writer, but she is the very best in the business. And to be able to come down here to this brand-new studio—this brand-spanking new studio where you could eat off the floor. I mean, usually we walk into stages where there’s dust from 1949,” commented Lindstrom of the experience of working at the show’s brand new Atlanta-based studio. “To come here every day, every single member of this cast—this incredible cast—and this crew, who are so happy to walk through those doors every day and be a part of something—so, to me, to everybody, I think it is so groundbreaking, that’s the most special part of it all.” Jon Lindstrom CBS Addressing the show’s costume designer Jeresa Featherstone (previously from “The Bold and the Beautiful”) for her and her team’s hard work, Lindstrom notes, “I just think we have to point out the clothes. Jeresa’s designs and what she’s done to make everyone look fabulous is really just stunning to me. And I’ve said this to Cady [McClain; Pamela Curtis] and to Michele. Every time I do a wardrobe fitting here, I say to Jeresa, ‘I don’t have any clothes like this in my closet, and I don’t know why.’” Before joining “Beyond the Gates,” Lindstrom is probably best known for his portrayal as Lindstrom Kevin Collins on “General Hospital,” having joined the show initially in 1992, playing the nightmarish Ryan Chamberlin. By 1993, he began playing dual roles when the show introduced Ryan’s twin brother, Kevin. With the continued success of “General Hospital,” ABC commissioned a spinoff in hopes it would help correct sagging ratings in the timeslot preceding “All My Children,” which was previously held by the likes of “Loving” and “The City.” In June 1997, the network introduced “Port Charles,” which saw a few of the parent show’s characters segue into the spinoff, including Kevin, and would often allow for crossover appearances. Later canceled in 2003, Lindstrom returned to “General Hospital” in a recurring capacity until 2004. After a nearly nine-year absence, Lindstrom once again reprised his role as Kevin on “General Hospital,” appearing on recurring status, with Kevin now married to Laura Collins (Genie Francis). In 2010, Lindstrom received his first-ever Daytime Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal as Craig Montgomery on “As The World Turns,” nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, where he appeared alongside McClain’s Rosanna. He later received nominations for his “General Hospital” work as Kevin in 2019, 2020 and 2023, the latter of which was for Outstanding Supporting Actor. For a sneak peek at what to expect from Lindstrom, and what’s going to happen next week on “Beyond the Gates,” check out a promo for next week’s episodes below. 7. My working theory is that it is a fake gun that shot a white flag, like a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
  8. Eva is allegedly Ted's daughter, per the conversation between Leslie and Eva. What got me was that Eva KNEW the whole time. Might have to go back to watch her express when she walked right past him on the elevator at the hospital while Leslie had her eyes trained on him. That said, I don't know if Eva knows what Leslie did to get her the job, in terms of forcing injuries on Laura.

  15. Although she’s appeared on several soap operas throughout her storied career, playing such memorable characters as Dixie Cooney on “All My Children,” Rosanna Cabot on “As The World Turns” and Jennifer Horton on “Days of our Lives,” as well as Kelly Andrews on “The Young and the Restless,” it’s her new role on “Beyond the Gates” that marks a major milestone for three-time Daytime Emmy Award winning actress Cady McClain. Beginning with the Friday, February 28 episode of the daytime drama series, McClain will formally portray her first original character on a soap opera when she debuts in the recurring role of Pamela Curtis, an old friend of Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) who makes her way back to Fairmont Crest to support Dani as her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett), sets out to marry his former mistress and secretary, Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings). “I’m just so thrilled to be a part of this incredible cast and this amazing show,” said McClain during a press junket last month. “I think it is so exciting. It’s such a beautiful production and such amazing actors, and I have the great pleasure of getting to work a great deal with Karla, and we have so much fun—probably too much fun.” She added, “We play very dear old friends, and we get up to a bit of trouble, and I think that’s all I’ll say.” While she was unable to share more about her new character at the time, one thing McClain could talk about was the show’s sets, stating, “I remember walking around and just going, wow, wow, they’re so beautiful. The designer did such a good job. They’re just gorgeous.” At launch, the series crafted 27 distinctive sets for its characters to play around in. Meanwhile, in a post on Instagram yesterday, McClain shared, “Finished today’s shoot! Such lovely, lovely people. And I made a new friend, I think! Grateful for the opportunity to keep doing what I do, rain or shine.” She noted, “Keep tuning in! Things keep getting kookier and soapier! Friday’s show brings some wild surprises!” An actress and director, among other creative talents, McClain is the winner of three Daytime Emmy Awards, becoming the first woman ever to have received the prestigious award for portraying three different characters on three different daytime dramas – Dixie Cooney on “All My Children,” Rosanna Cabot on “As The World Turns” and Jennifer Horton on “Days of our Lives,” with Dixie being her most recognizable. On “All My Children,” Dixie was first played by actress Kari Gibson in 1988. That same year, the ABC soap recast the role with McClain. Similarly, Rosanna on “As The World Turns” was originated by actress Yvonne Perry, who played the character from 1992–1999, with McClain taking the character to new heights from 2002-2010. While at "The Young and the Restless," McClain played a recast Kelly from after original portrayer Cynthia Watros exited the soap in 2014 for a starring role in the MTV scripted series "Finding Carter." In 2020, McClain became the third actress to portray an adult Jennifer on “Days of our Lives,” often stepping in when Melissa Reeves was unavailable, with her most recent appearance being in 2024. McClain made her television debut in 1983, playing the role of Erin Scheinfeld over five episodes on the NBC medical drama “St. Elsewhere.” She’s also directed several independent films and has appeared in multiple theater productions. Catch McClain on “Beyond the Gates” starting Friday, February 28. 16. A recent update to the official website for “General Hospital” sees the daytime drama series formally say goodbye to its former contract cast members Tajh Bellow, Chad Duell, Evan Hofer, Charles Mesure and Kelly Monaco, whose bios have all been removed from the show’s meet the cast page on ABC.com. In recent months, two of the five cast members saw their characters killed off courtesy of Cyrus Renault (played by Jeff Kober), while another two chose to exit of their own accord, and one other was taken off contract, albeit with no formal reason given at press time. Tajh Bellow Ricky Middlesworth/ABC Tajh Bellow Three years after being placed on contract, Bellow is now off contract with the series, with his character, Dr. TJ Ashford, not being seen on screen since at least December 2024. In a message posted to Instagram last week, Bellow teased an update to his status with the show, saying, “I know a lot of my fans are wondering what’s next for TJ, but before I speak to that I wanted to celebrate all that we’ve accomplished together. I’m excited for this years EMMY AWARDS!” For more on Bellow’s message to his Instagram followers, click here. Charles Mesure As for Mesure, the actor reportedly chose to exit the series just a few months after he was upped to contract status with the soap. He last appeared in late January on the series with his character, Jack Brenann, immediately recast with soap veteran Chris L. McKenna (“One Life to Live,” “The Young and the Restless”). Mesure first joined the cast in a recurring capacity in December 2023 before being placed on contract last fall. Meanwhile, since first appearing on the Tuesday, February 4 episode, McKenna has yet to be credited on either the official website or in the show’s end credits released each Friday. Charles Mesure Christine Bartolucci/Disney Evan Hofer, Kelly Monaco & Chad Duell In the case of Hofer and Monaco, their characters, Dex Heller and Sam McCall, respectively, were murdered in their hospital rooms at General Hospital after Cyrus injected their IVs with digitalis, a drug meant to improve the strength and efficiency of the heart, or to control the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat, which in itself isn’t harmful, but with a higher dose could lead to death if not caught in time, which is something that nearly happened to Michael Corinthos (Duell) after Cyrus attempted to take his life while the Quartermaine heir was in the hospital being treated for severe burns to his body as a result of a bomb exploding at his father’s penthouse in early January. Chad Duell, Kelly Monaco Christine Bartolucci/ABC After it was finally revealed that Cyrus was behind all the chaos last week, a confrontation with Michael’s sister, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), saw the character killed off with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) pegged as his murderer. In reality, it was Josslyn who pulled the trigger with Dex’s gun, while Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) was actually with Jason at the time of the incident, but ended up lying to the police, refusing to tell the truth due to the animosity he has against Jason and Carly (Laura Wright), two people who he feels are threatening his relationship with Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen), Michael’s wife who he’s been having an affair. Currently, Brennan is covering for Josslyn, with all evidence pointing at Jason. Evan Hofer Christine Bartolucci/Disney Hofer Round Two Despite his character being killed off and his bio removed from the show’s official website, Hofer has remained credited as a contract player with the series, with the actor most recently appearing in flashback scenes that saw his character in the morgue as Cyrus removed his hospital band. It’s unclear when Hofer will officially be removed from the show’s credits, thereby concluding his run on the series, which began in 2022. Missing Character Bios Bios that have yet to be included on the show’s official website include those for contract cast members Giovanni Mazza (Giovanni Palmieri), Jonathan Jackson (Lucky Spencer), Sawandi Wilson (Dr. Isaiah Gannon), Jens Austin Astrup (Kai Taylor), Alexa Havins Bruening (Lulu Spencer) and Braedyn Bruner (Emma Drake). Actors on recurring status do not receive a bio on the show’s official website. 17. Donna, This is why I wrote the shutdown post. If you see something that requires you to respond to someone like this, don't even bother responding. I don't want to see this on the board! I'm sick of the animosity people create just because of the way they speak, whether intended or not.
  18. Today's episode marks day 2 in the show's world, but it's not the wedding day. Thus, it looks like the show's debut week will take place over three days. I'm bringing this up because it was previously stated that Y&R's first week was essentially one single day in Genoa City, among other shows that did similarly.
  19. In case you missed it, "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" will rebroadcast the Tamara Tunie episode tomorrow: Friday, Feb. 28 (OAD: 2/19/25) Robert De Niro Tamara Tunie – “BEYOND THE GATES” (CBS)
