Y'know, Andy Griffith was about sixty when the original "Matlock" premiered. Sixty years old back then isn't the same as sixty years old today; so, if they had rebooted the original series the way most shows are rebooted today, with a new actor playing Ben Matlock, can you just imagine what the "new" Ben Matlock would look like? He'd be a total snack, lol!

This inspired me to look up celebrities born between 1966-67. Picture it: Jason Staham is Matlock! (In all seriousness, though, Harry Connick Jr. is right there.)

My mother, who is an Andy Griffith/"Matlock" fan from way back, tried the new "Matlock" and hated it. She complained that it had nothing at all to do with the original series (which is true) and that Kathy Bates was all wrong for the part (which is not).

Hehe. But then people would complain that it wouldn't be Matlock because Matlock is an older man. Who okay could be a snack too. hehe.

Believe me, I've got NO room to judge, lol.

I just hope the reboot doesn't have the same, patronizing attitude

Well thank you. )

Yeah, I think that was one of the reason I didn't like it unlike TOUCHED. I always felt it could be patronizing as a kid. I might feel different now as an adult. But still...

Any time she would call Monica "Angel Girl" or "Miss Wings," that was like being kissed by baby Jesus, lol!

LMAO! Facts.

Honestly? I could see both of those. But I am leaning to Harry.

True. They'd never be able to accept any "new" Ben Matlock who wasn't a silver-haired, banjo-playing Southerner with an affinity for seersucker suits and hot dogs. (Christ, I know too much about that show).

BUT now that you mention it...that too. He would have to be a Southerner to make it really work with that Southern charm. So people could reeeeal lust after him. lol.

And he'd have to be stingy and crotchety, but not to the point where you couldn't stand him. After all, one of the most endearing things about Andy's Matlock - aside from his brilliant legal mind, of course - was how irritated he could become even with judges who'd overrule him ("Oh, come on!").

I just love how this has turned into a "Matlock" thread, lol.
