EXCLUSIVE: Following an inquiry by Soap Opera Network, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) will be updating the Daytime Emmy nomination totals for “Days of our Lives” and its spinoff “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” Previously, the organization announced that the mothership series had received 11 nominations while the spinoff series had three. The update will reflect that “DAYS” now has 12 nominations while “Beyond Salem” has four.

In Thursday’s nominations announcement for “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” there was confusion regarding the combined nomination for the two shows in the Outstanding Casting category which lists the two as a single nominee (“Days of our Lives / Beyond Salem NBC | Peacock”) in literature. In the three other three categories in which the shows are competing against each other (Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Writing Team and Directing Team) the two are listed separately. We’re told this was an administrative decision based on the rules for each category.

Further, in categories where entrants were allowed to submit a full episode (e.g. Series, Writing, Directing), “Beyond Salem” was allowed to separately enter. However, in categories where entrants submit a reel consisting of highlighted scenes from the year, “DAYS” had the option to include material from “Beyond Salem” on the same reel because it’s the same production team. The option was extended to other craft categories but Casting was the only one where it received a nomination in such a format.

In correcting the matter, it’s understood that only the total number of Emmy nominations received by the two shows will be updated but no changes will be made in the literature, and the number of nominees in the category will not be increased. Instead, should the category result in a win, the statue will be engraved as “Days of our Lives / Beyond Salem NBC | Peacock.”

The inclusion of “Beyond Salem” in any category marks the first time since 2014 that there are more than four daytime dramas competing, specifically in the category of Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. In fact, for the first time ever, a television series will be vying against its spinoff in the category, NATAS noted in yesterday’s release. The last spinoff series to receive a nomination in the category was “Port Charles,” a spinoff of “General Hospital,” in 2003. “GH” was not nominated that year while “As The World Turns” took home the gold.

Outside of the aforementioned categories, “Days of our Lives” was honored with eight other nominations, including seven in the acting categories and a nomination for Live Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Actor John Aniston who has portrayed the iconic role of Victor Kiriakis on the NBC series since 1985 will be the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Stars Eric Martsolf and James Reynolds are nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor. In 2014, Martsolf won a Daytime Emmy for his portrayal of Brady Black on the soap but in the Supporting Actor category. He previously received a nomination in 2019 in the same category. Meanwhile, in 2018, Reynolds won in the Lead Actor category for his portrayal of Abe Carver. He was previously nominated for the role in 2004 and 2017 but in the category of Supporting Actor. He received his first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in 1991 for his portrayal of Henry Marshall on the NBC soap “Generations.”

Receiving her fifth Daytime Emmy nomination overall, Arianne Zucker and co-star Marci Miller are nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress. Zucker was previously nominated in the Lead Actress category in 2014 and 2020 for her portrayal of Nicole Walker. She also received nominations in 2010 and 2013 but in the Supporting Actress category. Miller was previously nominated in the Lead Actress category in 2018 and 2019, respectively, for her portrayal of Abigail Deveraux DiMera. This is her third nomination overall.

Stacy Haiduk received her second-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress for her portrayal as Kirsten DiMera on the soap. She was previously nominated in 2017 in the same category for her portrayal of Patty Williams on “The Young and the Restless.”

Lindsay Arnold received her first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series. She joined the series in 2020 as Allie Horton, daughter of Samantha Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) and Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo).

Despite appearing in multiple daytime dramas throughout his career, including “All My Children,” “As The World Turns” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” this year marks the first time ever actor Michael Lowry is nominated for playing a role on a broadcast series. He’s up for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for his portrayal of Dr. Clay Snyder. In 2017, he received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Digital Daytime Drama Series for his role as Jordan Bradford in “Tainted Dreams.”

    • I'm not saying he was right. I'm just saying he wasn't screaming. I hope we see him apologize on screen.

    • lol.   I mean...I wouldn't mind his workout secrets. But NOPE on anything insta.
    • I saw this earlier and had to piggyback to it.   I mentioned before how they love to give characters shades of grey on this show which I love. And with Dani, they have always shifted her between protagonist and antagonist since Week 1. Having good nice moments...and then her over-the-top moments. I still holler every time I see a gif of her mugshot-turn-photoshoot. It's why she's so divisive in my opinion. Just look at this board. Dani actually been background for a month and a half now and people still feel a way just looking at her. Just wait until she's truly back in an A story.

In any case, when we do see Dani...she's not doing anything over-the-top or crazy. She really hasn't done anything but sex up Andre which is scandalous while slowly catching feelings...but is quite C plot really. She's trying to start her business. Again...C plot for now. She's being there for family members. Nothing crazy, but a litttle too nice for a livewire such as herself as established in Week 1 and when she broke into Bill and Hayley's house so it's about time for the writers to put her back in that 'annoying' over-the-top way. I don't like it myself, but she is overdue one of her shifts the writers do with her so it is not surprising.
    • Emma, FTW!!!!!! Her words today to Joss were beautiful. And so well deserved!

If only Cam had been the one to say it
    • -- Laura to Sonny: "I will always love and respect you." GAG ME. This stuff doesn't lead me to respect Sonny more, but to respecting Laura less. -- Carly being brought into the Gio/Brook Lynn story by Lulu. GAG ME. Why does Carly have to be a part of every damn story on this show?
    • This episode was probably the most we've ever seen of Jan.. and it took long enough. The phone conversation between Jan/Ashley also shed light on their backstory.. and I think it explains why Ashley seems to live in a dreamworld and why she's having difficulties with living with Derek.  Derek could be doing everything right and Ashley would still have a problem because she was an only child, didn't see her mother model positive male/female interactions, and sounds as if she was alone a lot of the time. Nicole is modeling healthy human behavior and she would be smart not to listen to Dani's advice... well intentioned as it is. Eva is the character you root for because she's suffering the consequences of her actions.  And if I were Eva, I wouldn't want to be part of the Dupree world.   I'm hoping the Doug/Joey scenes today is signaling that we're finally moving to the next stage of this story... Doug either asking Vanessa for the money, or letting Joey have dibs on Vanessa's business books, etc.   And Joey finally showing his true colors makes me think we might be approaching that next stage of this story.
    • Lord have mercy!!! Not SilkPress vs Eva at Oprhany Gene for everyone to see!!!! Though I loved Vernon shading SilkPress. I continue to love all this fallout.   Is THAT Joey's endgame?
    • WAIT!!?  You don't want to know CM's workout secrets?  And a recap of his insta feed?  What's wrong with you?   Anyhow, today's show had good character moments.  I feel like Sonny/Laura brought it down.  I really like Tracey and Jason scenes so I think I am a weirdo.  Carly/Lulu were actually pretty good as well, but Carly's dress was some sort of bondage/leather type situation?  It was a strange wardrobe choice lol.
