Although I've never been sucidial, I sometimes do suffer from depression. Thus, I never look down upon anybody who takes his/her own life (though it is always a tragic occurrence). Indeed, when one has been down and out for years (which I'm not sure is the case here), telling a sucidial person that "things will get better" often doesn't help, and medications for depression may cause terrible side effects. Thus, at times, suicide could seem like a rational option (although I hope it's not an option that one would choose).
