Jax was one of my favorites for that exact reason. The rest of the town acted like Jax was taking crazy pills for pointing out their bull.

I actually did think it was a thing because of the Austin plot as well. I figured I was too young and missed some sort of boxing phenomenon. It's a good way to get guys half dressed I suppose.
This is neither here nor there really but I was watching the Caroline/JfK jr. story and they make it seem like the Baywatch guy/Caroline's boyfriend was the next CK model. And I was thinking it was ASJ that succeeded Marky Mark.

Thank you, Zane. I don't remember that footage from findyourlight. I wonder if someone captured it before the site went away. UCLA has several episodes of soaps that are on a reel and haven't been transferred. I'm not sure why somebody doesn't do something about that. You would think it wouldn't be that difficult in this day and age.

I don't think the boxing story was meant to reference any recent movies. There was 1992's Gladiator, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and James Marshall, but that wasn't a hit. I suspect that GH's story was playing a little bit of follow the leader with DOOL's then-recent boxing story involving Austin.
This might be more appropriate for the DOOL history thread, but I want to know if early Austin took some inspiration from Mark Wahlberg. Boxing's featured in the "Good Vibrations" video, Austin's introduction has him stripping in public, Austin boxed as "Boston Austin" ... it's probably a coincidence, but maybe it isn't. And to tie it back to GH, ASJ followed Mark as Calvin Klein's lead male model.

Correct. Jax was willing to play the game because he wanted to keep Joss in his life, which was the most important thing. I don't see him giving Joss any nitty gritty details about Sonny/Carly to this day. Jax spent 25 years telling everyone in town how sucky Sonny was and no one listened. I hope Jax is living his best life surfing in Australia with a non-Sonny related woman. Ingo aside, Jax was one of the few non villain characters to speak the truth about the Jason/Carly/Sonny toxicity and actually tried to help.

Yes to this. Carly was still Sonny’s enabler/defender up to the Nina/Mike reveal with Nixon Falls. While she still has moments, it’s not as in your face and deeply loyal as it used to be. Jax would play ball just to keep some semblance of peace until he was ready to do something about Sonny himself.
