Hotel Cæsar

"Hotel Cæsar" is a Norwegian soap series, and has lasted from 1998 and is still running. It's shown on Norwegian TV 2 Monday to Thursday 19.30. The show is about a hotel (obviously...), and both about the family that owns the hotel (Anker-Hansen) and the employees at the hotel. Read more about it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_C%C3%A6sar

I watched some of Hotel Caesar on Youtube and it seems like kind of a strange show - I was shocked to see in the middle of fairly mundane stories, the beginnings of a threeway, and a (clothed) sex scene which seemed to involve thrusting and orgasm. All with this Jens August, who looked pretty hot.

There's also this...bizarre and strangely hilarious scene.

Well, there you have Charlotte  Not the best actress in the show, in my opinion. But, I haven't seen this period of the show, so I don't know what's on in that clip.

I wounder, did you see old clips or clips from the recent years? The show changed a lot in the period 2005-2007. From 1998 to 2005 the show was ok, 2006 was a lot of sex and violence (to attract younger viewers), 2007 was, in my opnion, the worst year in the show's history, 2008 some better, 2009 some better than 2008 and the same with 2010. So, let's hope 2011 will be even better!

And, Jens August, yes. Well, right now they're running a story on him being allowed, from his wife, to cheat on her - if he just tells her who it is.

New promos - for the season finale!

Hotel Cæsar is currently on Christmas break, and will return at 6th January 2014. The show has released a 2 min. preview of the spring season; I'll sub it some time soon and then post it here. I think the spring season is going to be rather good!

Thought I'd share some photos from the production's Christmas party a few weeks ago:

From left: Nils Vogt (Arnfinn Lycke), unknown (new character), Anette Hoff (Juni Anker-Hansen), Torgeir Reiten (Edvin Holte), Hilde Erichsen (Hanne Dahle), Assad Siddique (Harshad Kapoor), Evy Kasseth Røsten (Mie Andersen), Kenneth Åkerland Berg (Albert Lunde), Kim-Daniel Sannes (Storm Liland Anker-Hansen), Anne Kokkinn (Birte «Bitten» Lillevik), Camilla Aanonli (Jenny Augusta Anker-Hansen), Rudy Claes (Eva Rosenkrantz), Kim Kolstad (Jens August Anker-Hansen), Nikis Theophilakis (Pelle Krogstad) and Svein Østvik (Bingo-Bjørn).

Kenneth Åkerland Berg (Albert) and Evy Kasseth Røsten (Mie). For how long will they stay on the show? Some things indicate that both leaves the show, while others indicate that both stays on the show. It's actually hard to tell if they both will stay on the show, if one will leave the show while the other one stays on the show or if they both will leave the show.

Svein «Charter-Svein» Østvik, famous from the Norwegian "docu-soap" Charterfeber, will join the show as "Bingo-Bjørn" in April. I don't know if I should be happy or terrified of it...

Rudy Claes (Eva), Camilla Aanonli (Jenny) and Anette Hoff (Juni). Both the Rosenkrantz and the Anker-Hansen family is represented here, and they'll apparently both have it pretty rough the next season. As the show runner Berggren puts it: "It will be an intense period for the Anker-Hansen [and Rosenkrantz] family - now they're threatened from the inside."

Kim-Daniel Sannes (Storm) - will he survive the shooting? Of course he does - we've known that for over a month already... But he'll still be much away from the show in 2014, due to his participation in Skal vi danse, the Norwegian version of Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing with the Stars, where he ended in 2nd place.

Kim Kolstad (Jens August) and Torgeir Reiten (Edvin) - it is with these two characters most of the drama will unfold in 2014! Edvin is the "threat from the inside" as Berggren talked about. This is going to be exciting!

Oh, I see I haven't made an update here in ages - I'll try to make an update soon, but I might not have time to do that until after my exams in December, since it's quit a lot that has happened on the show since January. But what I'll tell you right now is that TV 2, the channel broadcasting Hotel Cæsar, two weeks ago announced a pause in the filming of Hotel Cæsar from next February - due to the "long gap between filming and airing of episodes". It's actually true, they're almost a year in advance now and I agree that's a bit too much. But the scarry thing about this is that the ratings have dropped slightly over the past years, and we all know what a pause in the filming may lead to in the end - see what happened to British Heartbeat and The Royal.

In addition, the production company's contract with TV 2 ends in early 2016, but TV 2 have the option of stopping the production prior to this, making the production stop six months after they decision (which I suppose they've used in this case). They keep saying that we're not to worry, even though TV 2 also states that "there is no automatic in what's on TV 2 from year to year". They also states that they had a pause in the filming eary in the 2000s, which is true, and the show did start filming again six months or so later back then - but some rumours will have it that TV 2 originally had planned to cut the show back then, but since the ratings improved they decided to continue airing the show. However, this has never been confirmed by TV 2, but it seems rather likely. In addition to TV 2's original statement, a national newspaper today has published an article with "rumours" in the industry, stating that TV 2 has decided to make next year the last year of Hotel Cæsar. Again, TV 2 has not confirmed this information, but they're not likely to do so until at least some time next spring, when they'll decide what shows to order for 2016. And I guess they won't release they decision too early, to avoid people not starting to watch the show when they know "the end is near".

Of course, me and the rest of the fans realize that everything must come to an end some time, but we don't like TV 2 making this decision now or at latest next spring; the show got a new (script) producer, Marie Hafting, back in January (or, she started for real now in August, after the production's summer break, I guess she had some time working along with the old script producer in the Spring), and her episodes will start airing shortly after Easter next year. Hence, TV 2 is likely to make the decision to "pull the plug" or not before the new producer's episodes has even started to air on TV, and both me and the rest of the hardcore fans believes that her new line for the show is likely to attract more people to the show and increase the ratings. We therefore asks TV 2 to not pull the plug for Hotel Cæsar already early next year, and at least wait until later next year - and hopefully renew the contract for some more years.

I therefore hope that as many as possible of you guys here on the forum can "like" this Facebook page, stating that we don't want TV 2 to end Hotel Cæsar in 2016: https://www.facebook.com/Neitilnedleggelseavhc Thanks!

I liked it.

I hope the show stays on. Sucks that it's in jeopardy.

Thanks! I really hope we'll make TV 2 change what most likely is their plans, hopefully we manage to improve the ratings a bit - it's going to be hard, but we need to try :)

Do you have a tumblr? Are there any fans of the show on there? They might be able to help spread the word.

There's also the Gays of Daytime site. A few people are still there, although the thread is dead. If you want me to post your message there I will, if I can remember my old account and password.

I'll come back with a summary of 2014 - what's been good, what could've been done better etc. - after the season final, so I'll guess some time during the Christmas week. However, I want to share some news about the show already now:

As I've stated earlier, the show got a new script producer earlier in 2014 - her first episodes was recorded from August and on, and they'll be shown on TV approx. after Easter 2015 - she'll "take the show more back to it's roots", and focus more on the family- and private life of the characters, as well as make it "younger" and make the show a bit "lighter" than what it has been the last 1-2 years. I think that'll be good, I've spoken to her and finds her ideas for the show very good. The intention to make the show "younger" hopefully will attract more young viewers to the show, helping to secure the show's future.

One of the original characters, Ninni Krogstad Anker-Hansen, is returning to the show in June 2015. She was played by Henriette Lien from 1998 to 2003 (with a break in 2000-01), but is now going to be played by Sølje Bergmann. Some of the fans don't like the recast, becuase Ninni is a very big character of the show, others, like me, finds it ok, since Ninni is such a big character. In addition, they've find an actress that resembles relatively much to the original actress. To sum up Ninni's story: The show started in 1998 with the romance of Georg Anker-Hansen and Ninni Krogstad, and they eventually got married in 1999. Following Georg's death later that year, Ninni inherited 20 % of the company and the position as CEO. A lot of drama followed (she for example got a baby with Georg's son, Jens August, named Georg "Goggen" Anker-Hansen jr.) and eventually, Ninni and Jens August got married in 2002. After the marriage, Ninni discovered Jens August had married her only to be able to secure the control of the company to the family (by falsing Georg's will), and she ended up shooting both Jens August and Arne Marcussen at a masquerade ball (they both had the same costume), killing Arne Marcussen and making Jens August temporarily blind. She was then imprisoned, but is now returning to the show after 12 years. Hopefully, you can see clips of both the filming of Ninni's comeback here and of Ninni's major moments in Hotel Cæsar here (plus some more photos of the filming of the comeback at the end of the article). I think this is going to be very great - and the return in itself will make a great moment, especially to see Juni's reaction when meeting Ninni for the first time in over 12 years... Hopefully though, the show stays on also in 2016 so that Ninni's comeback won't be to just end in the show getting cancelled some months later.

Six new "youth" characters are coming to the hotel in the Spring of 2015 (this is in line with Marie Hafting's strategy to make the show "younger"). Or, it's four new characters, one comeback and one recast. Jenny Augusta is currently being played by Camilla Aanonli, but Sofie Asplin is being recasted in the role - to make it possible to have the character more on screen. Aanonli still attends lower secondary school and hence can only play for some hours a week, while Asplin is at her final year at high school and has decided to take the final year by doing "self-studying" (as an external/private candidate). Most fans likes the way Aanonli plays the character, including myself, but on the other hand it's difficult to make great stories for the character with a such young actress, and Marie Hafting do as well have a point when saying that Asplin might resemble slightly more on Eva than Aanonli does. Georg "Goggen" Anker-Hansen jr. is making comeback after three years (studying at Harvard Business School, or acting in Scottland, as the actor did in real life), still played by Tarjei Westby. The rest of the new charaters incudes Amanda Martens (Evelyn Rasmussen Osazuwa), who Goggen brings with him back to Norway; Stian Borg (Arthur Hakalahti), a possible new love interest for Jenny Augusta; Joey Krogstad (Iver Innset), newphew of Pelle, and also a possible new love interest for Jenny Augusta (I guess we'll see a love triangle here); and Sarah Persen (Helene Langseth Solberg), new friend of Jenny Augusta. More about the new characters at TV 2's website here, but it's of course in Norwegian - however, you can see pictures of the new actors.

The preview of the spring season is available, and it looks just fabulous!! Can't wait to see this on screen biggrin.png
