I find it great that Madonna is still so popular around the world. "Hung Up" is an awesome song. Anyone know how high it got on US charts?

I think "Hung Up" peaked at #7 on the Billboard Top100. I don't get the US chart system - is the Billboard one the official one? Because there's always talk about a song being "Number one on the mainstream charts" or "Number one on the airplay charts" blablabla. I mean, what really counts are the SALES.

I quote: "Hung Up" has been number 1 in following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Macedonia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom. I don't think any current singer/group can top this.

The opposite example is Mariah Carey who's only popular in the United States and nowhere else around the world In Germany Mariah's last few singles barely reached the Top40 and in the UK she has only had one #1 hit - and that was in 1990. Every Madonna song except "Take A Bow", "Oh Father" and "One More Chance" reached the UK Top10 and she has had 8 number hits so far.

In Germany all Madonna singles except "Ray Of Light", "Drowned World" and "Nothing Really Matters" reached the Top20 of the charts.
