BTG: March 2026 Discussion Thread

The big reveal after Laura was run off the road (in a location shoot) was Leslie taking off the helmet.
A great set up/hook - but Laura was a minor character that we were never allowed to be invested in and today we still have Leslie swanning around.
It was bait/switch. We should have seen Laura struggling to recover and having memory flashes of the culprit.
Finally Laura remembering that it was Leslie through some slip up on Leslie's part and just as she is to reveal the truth she collapses and when she regains consciousness her memories have gone and Leslie get a reprieve ...for now.

All: Proposed plots/storylines that never happened.

There was a theory that Scott Lasalle was going to turn out to be a triplet to Marley and Victoria on Another World and that the photograph that Reginald showed Donna that sent her into a mental breakdown was of three babies (as demonstrated by the fact that Donna said "my baby" three times when she saw the photo -- although if I recall correctly Anna Stuart said later that there was no significance in the number of times she said "my baby" or in the number of pillows she grabbed). In the end it turned out that the photo was of Michael's brother John and two infants and Donna's traumatic secret was that John had raped her and might have been the father of the twins instead of Michael.
On the one hand I don't think that the triplet story would have been any good, but the John rape story was pretty awful.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if I had been Bill Bell, and I had learned that MTS and Ed Scott were engaged, I would've sat them both down and said, "Congratulations! Now, which one of you's willing to leave the show?".
I love how MTS hand-waved that years later, too.
Jeanne Cooper: "Now, about this issue you had with me -- "
MTS: "Oh, Jeanne, that was so long ago!"
JC: "Yeah, but what the hell was it about?"

MTS seems to have went through a period where she thought of herself as the Queen Bee of the Y&R hive and clashed with several co-stars. Jeanne Cooper wrote about their falling out in her book.
On Peyton Place I wonder about Barbara Parkins and James Douglas. They became a super couple with fans. I never have found interviews about their offscreen relationship. Just write ups about Parkins and O'Neal.
On Dallas Larry Hagman supposedly mistreated Dack Rambo.

It wouldn't have ended well, because even Marland would've questioned TG's late-stage re-interpretation of Luke Spencer as an unrepentant thug and child killer who felt his "angel" held him back from being his true self.
In fact, I could see Richard Culliton texting Marland and quoting Sofia in "The Color Purple": "Don't trade places with me, Miss Celie, he ain't worth it!"
At some point, Marland likely would've transitioned into writing exclusively for the theatre, with the explanation that he had made enough money from writing soaps to do the kind of work he wanted without network or sponsor interference. ("Daytime's a young writer's game, and I'm just too old and too comfortable to fight the 'suits' anymore over stories that I want to tell.")

Yep. I'm afraid we'll see plenty more celebs come out of the political content, either because so-and-so's reelection has emboldened them, or because they're afraid of alienating Middle America. (Fleetwood Mac was right: heroes ARE hard to find).
