Members Soapsuds
http://www.cbs.com/daytime/atwt/behind/int...s/emorris.shtml Meet Eric! When Casey was released from jail, he wasn't the only one starting his life over, his roommate Matt flew the coop too. CBS.com caught up with his portrayer, ERIC WIllIAM MORRIS who filled us in on Matt, life in Oakdale and more. CBS.com: Tell me about Matt. ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: Matt grew up in a different part of Illinois because he was in the state prison with Casey, which you'll learn as the plot unfolds. I think he's a really interesting character. He's not fully bad and he's struggling to become a good guy, but he has a lot going on and he has a lot of influences pulling at him. He's got a really interesting struggle so it's really interesting to play. CBS.com: Do we know why Matt is in prison? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: You will, eventually, so tune into AS THE WORLD TURNS, weekdays on CBS. CBS.com: Wow! Thanks for the plug. ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: Yeah, exactly. CBS.com: How has your experience been at ATWT? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: It's been amazing. It's been a dream come true. It's been such a good experience. I've only done a couple of television spots before this and to have a recurring role, where I've already shot 20 episodes, is amazing. It's a great crash course on acting. I've learned so much and everyone has been so kind. CBS.com: What's your background? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: I got my degree at Loyola College in Baltimore. I then went on to do a couple more years in Manhattan at the Circle in the Square Theater School, which is a two year conservatory which used to be affiliated with NYU, but now it's doing its own thing. I graduated from there two years ago, in 2006, and most of my experience before has been in theater, and I did a couple of days on a few other television shows before this. But this is the first reccuring role on television I've gotten. CBS.com: How did the role of Matt come about? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: I actually got called in for something different and I'm not even sure if they went ahead with the role. It was way back in the beginning of October. They called me on Halloween and I came back in and read, and I didn't hear anything for literally two months. I just figured I didn't get it. Then I got a call and they said they weren't interested in me for that role but in a few weeks could I come back in and read for this role of Matt. I went back in and it was right before Christmas and I found out that day that I got it. CBS.com: Did you find out on Christmas? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: It was maybe a couple days before Christmas. What a great present! CBS.com: Tell me about Matt. He seems to be eyeying Alison. Could there be a potential romance there? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: I think so. But I think that she has some issues trusting him. CBS.com: Can you blame her? Matt acts a little sneaky sometimes. ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: She should. There's a lot of stuff in Alison's past that makes her not trust someone new right away. I think that's one of the most interesting things about playing Matt, is that he genuinely is attracted to her, not just physically, but he really likes her. He has a really hard time getting her to trust him and she probably shouldn't be trusting him in the first place. He defintely has his sights set on her so, it should be interesting. CBS.com: What is going on with Matt and Gray's relationship? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: They work very closely together, as you can tell. Matt has been hired to work for Gray and pretty much how it happens is that Gray is very wealthy. Matt will do small jobs for Gray and get his hands a little dirty because Gray pays so well. At the moment, he takes orders to do whatever Gray tells him to do. But there is one main plan that puts them both in Oakdale and that plan will unfold dramatically on-screen shortly. CBS.com: What's Casey and Matt's relationship? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: It seems to me, as you've found out, Matt had an arrangement with one of the guards to help Casey get an early release from prison which would benefit both Matt and Casey. It seems to me that Matt has a little more experience, a shadier past, than Casey, as you'll find out. Matt has been involved in things with some tough people for a longer time than casey and I think Matt took a liking to Casey because he sees he's a good guy, nice enough kid. But it's unclear if he's taken to this friendship to be a friend or to take advantage of him in a weaker state. They have a relationship that seems that they can lean on each other in hard times. When Matt gets out of prison, he's kind of expecting Casey to be there. CBS.com: Margo and Tom have welcomed Matt. How has that been for him? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: I think that was completely unexpected and it's thrown him off any thoughts of taking advantage of him. He realizes these people are good people. Matt may in their home for alternative reasons, he has a hard time completing the job because they are so welcoming. CBS.com: What do you like to do in your free time? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: I'm very into music. I play the guitar. Actually right now I'm helping a friend of mine whose trying to be a song writer put together some songs for a demo. I play the guitar, piano and sing a bit. I love the New York Mets and I've been preparing for the season to begin. I live in Astoria, two miles from the field, so I'll be there a lot. CBS.com: What's next for Matt? ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS: You will see the struggle I've been talking about. It will come to a head and Matt will have to make a very big decision. Members Soapsuds
Yeah, I like Matt too. I hope he stays on the show. Allison is good. She is growing on me. It was hard at first because I was use to Jessica in the role. I hope they pair the two of them up. They need to have Matt connected to a core family in Oakdale.
