Yeah, we knew Willow was a trashy crazy-scheming gutter ho with no future in five seconds....

No sh!t! If he could give Willow a strong personality and let her network out in various stories as quickly as he did, he sure as hell could've done it with Phillip. Thus far, he hasn't... and five months is more than enough time to have done so.

My complaint isn't that Phillip is evil. In fact, I prefer him to the snoozy-woozy Phillip from his high-school days.

My complaint is that if they're going to write him as a bad guy, they need to make it interesting. Having him repeat the same childish lines over and over and over doesn't cut it for me. He's used as a prop, and in five months, he could've/should've been fleshed out more. It's been FIVE months. Not one -- FIVE. And it's been a bust, because he sucks as a bad guy. He also sucks as a good guy. He all around sucks, no matter where you go with him. Part of it has to do with the writing and his placement as a prop in the story, and part of it has to do with Jay Johnson. No matter how they write Phillip, be it one month or 73, I'm not going to like him because the character and his portrayer BORE. ME. TO. TEARS. MY OPINION. If you feel differently, great. But I disagree.

Go watch Y&R. It takes that show, sometimes, a whole year to develop a character. Not so much anymore. But that's why they were so successful in the past year. They're realistic. No real person devleops in a freaking month. It takes time. All of this, searching the entire world for Claire, having his daughter ripped from his hands, seeing the depth Shawn and Belle will go to keep their daughter, I think it's going to pay off in the end.

I would rather see Hogan and Corday plan this show and give great quality, at least for the next 2 years, rather than a piece of sh*t, hoping they can save the show.

Why can't they do both?

Because fans complain. That's why. Back in the late part of 2006, I saw several posts about fans complaining that SHELLE were no longer front-burner. They wanted to see more of Martha and Brandon. That was not so much done on the SON site because we are a well-rounded board, but on other sites, they want to see their favorite couples. When they're not seen, complaints emerge.

Well, let's also remember Corday dipped his fingers i nthe cookie jar and made Hogan abandon his original plans. Perhaps Philip got caught in the shuffle.

Yes, Days needs to get things done now but Philip is a character that is undergoing a transformation during a time where the show has been changing gears repeatedly. That does take time and just because a show's ratings suck and they may go off in a few years doesn't mean you throw caution and good, solid character writing to the wind just to make things better faster or to make things more interesting in the here and now. Yes, the character is annoying right now but the story has been going on for so long that the story has become annoying.

I think we all know the show has no time to mess around but it still has time to write character development. If people disagree, then maybe some should be petition for JER or Langan to return.

We partically beg for the vets, yet they don't give us them! They gave us SHELLE because they "think" that is what we want. To be honest soap execs are so far out of touch with their fans it's sad, not only at DAYS but across the boards.

No one in charge of a soap listens to what their fans ask for.

Please! Since when? A rabid fanbase like SHELLE and the psycho posters that post on their websties, can do wonders.

I do watch Y&R.

If Hogan decides to write something decent for Phillip three months down the road, I'll be happy. If Hogan decides to really dive into Phillip's psyche and use him as more than a prop for Shelle, I'll be happy. Until then, I'm bored. And I've been bored with him for the last four months. And just because Hogan might decide to wake up and do something interesting with the character down the road sometime, it doesn't mean I was wrong for thinking that everything written before it was boring dreck -- because IMO, it WAS, and it IS.

And I hope you're happy in the end. If not, oh well, sorry that you spent the next however many years, being displeased.

I, on the other hand, will continue to watch a show that I've been disappointed to call myself a fan of for the past 4 years, and have finally been pleased day in and day out. :D

In regards to that yes they listen. They listen to that because they can say this couple is popular with the demographic and sell ads during their time slot. When it comes to wanting a story, an honest to God story for Maggie: "Mickey's Death" or "Cancer" or on ONE LIFE: "A Story for Viki" or GL: "No More Jeffery" they don't listen!

They listen and give when it is convient (sp?) for them! Back in 2003 I think it was an online petition went around after Eileen Fulton gave her SOW interview and it did nothing for her character! I'm just saying!

Maybe those vet fans should become rabid fanbases like SHELLE and SHIMI and CHICK and LUMI and etc. Maybe we'll see something different.

That's because Eileen Fulton was being a bitch and going to the mags to dis the writer. If I was a writer, I wouldn't have written for her either. According to her, Hogan didn't write for vets. I seem to recall reading about him writing for Kim, Bob, Susan, Tom, Margo, Barbara, etc. Just because Lisa didn't get a storyline, he gets critisized for not writing for vets? Please!

Doubtful! The thing is the new generation of soap viewers haven't been taught to respect and cherish the greats that made DAYS a long running soap! Or any soap for that matter...
