Where the Heart Is (1969-1973)
Well, if soapnet would get off their butts and do a special every ONCE IN A WHILE on historical soaps, they could negotiate to air things like this... just like Game show network did for those 9 1973 episodes of the 10,000$ pyramid that the UCLA film library had. The licensing issues for a DVD release ARE quite tedious and not worth the investment... but a simple re-airing is NOT. But of course, soapnet can't manage do put together a historical block special even ONCE A YEAR. They aired those old AMC episodes a couple years ago, and that hs been about IT as far as historical specials. It was even mentioned that soapnet's deal with sony allowed them to air archive footage of Y&R for specials and documentary. Have they availed themselves of this clause in the contract? NO. I'd love to see a repeat airing of Y&R from the beginning on soapnet, but I know they'll never do it. It would suck the viewers away form the current show.

The Politics Thread
I'm hoping that very soon that soon that SOMETHING will be done about the state of health care. If the government could simply provide a non-profit "buy in" to medicare, that would help alot of people. I hear so many pundits talk about "rationed care"... blah blah blah... theyr'e acting like the governenment is going to FORCE people to partake in a national health care plan. It has been said time and time again that if you like things the way they are, nothing has to change for you. Theyr'e just afraid they mgiht have to pay extra taxes so the working poor can have basic health care. I've also heard conservative pundits say over and over, "Why do people think the government owes us free health care"... well my question is this: WHY does the government owe us a free education? Unless I'm very much mistaken, nobody has ever dropped dead from lack of an algebra lesson, so which do you think is more improtant? I've heard suggestions on extra taxes on products such as soda pop... and I have no problem with that.... extra taxes of food or drinks which have no nutritional value. I think it would help ALOT if the government simply funded the hospitals, or at the very LEAST required all hospitals to be non-profit. If you compare the costs that the "for profit" hospitals charge in comparison wiht what the non-profit catholic hospitals charge, in many cases... the facility charge is HALF.

Well, the answer to the question of WHERE... is in the midwest, and in any community with a population of 5,000 people or less. That's where you can trust local government and schools, by and large. I'm not saying the Children need to be forced into community service of the school's choosing... there should be a broad range of activites to choose from, and like elective courses in school... the child and parent decide together which is best for them.

I don't see a problem with making this a mandatory requirement for graduation. Many times, children must be MADE to partake in something they may not like, it happens throughout childhood. But once these students are MADE to do something that will help someone else who may desperately need it, then you just might see a change in that student. You may seem him gain a sense of accomplishment and pride for doing something that helps another. It's TEACHING them to care about their fellow man, to have a generosity of spirit, to not be some self-absorbed twit who wants to be paid for EVERYTHING they do, even scratching their butt. Of course, conservatives don't want this.. because above all else conservatives value money and material posessions more than they value people (Unless said people are friends and family). We make all kinds of requirements for graduation, some... like algebra... are virtually usless in everyday life. Teaching caring and generosity, and concern for your fellow man is something that will be carried with you all your life. Forcing against the will never works with ADULTS, Brian.... but with children, gentle to moderate force is required many times and is quite effective

ALL: Soap Opera Background Music Thread
That music from the scene where Nina Shot David Kimball is just AWESOME. It speaks to the expertise of Alloco and Davidson, because the first portion of the scene was composed by them, while the second portion (after 2:40) was composed by McGinnis, Winn, and Todd as part of the orginal 1973 score. And notice how SEAMLESSLY they fit together, and how suspenseful they are. The only thing that's bothered me lately, is that when they DO use a McGinnis/Winn/Todd composition within the body of the show, they never credit them, and havne't for years. The end credits only credit Alloco and Davidson. Just last week, during Katherine's "I'm leaving Genoa City" scene... they pulled out version 2 of "Sally's Theme" once again... and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it when they do!! I'd just wish they'd add McGinnis/Winn/Todd to the credits when they do. I'd also love it if they used a few OTHER pieces from the 70's every once in a while, like a treat... once or twice a week or so. I'm SO glad they've dispensed with those STUPID hip-hoppy sounding pieces, everyone HATED them... I guess they finally listened and brought back the GOOD stuff. In this day of reducing budgets, they don't need to be spending ANY money on new music... they've got PLENTY of library to draw from, some of which hasn't been heard in over a decade.

Here is another GORGEOUS piece form the 70's, this piece did not make it onto the Y&R soundtrack album in 1974, but was released on a Mystic Moods album (Same composers and producers). This piece was use at the background music when Jill and Phillip made love for the first (and only) time, and also used off an on throuought the 70's. It was also used in 1982 during the Sally/Chuckie/Snapper SL... just LOVE this: "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344">

Y&R's backgournd music has always been so different, lots of dark, moody pieces that just go so perfectly with the darker lighting and everything. One of my favorites from the 70's is this one..... it starts at 1:16
