What Are You Listening To?
This is who I've got on the CD player tonight. Who could ask for more? A group of HOT studs who can really SING, and have great songs. My favorite is Warren Entner (the one behind the keyboard player, and he introduces the single) He's just too beautiful for words.... this is a medley of their hits :

Cynthia does FABULOUS "Crazy eyes", doesn't she? I LOVE her! Now, although both of the pieces you posted were composed in the 80's by Alloco and Davidson, it amazes me how they used the original score and the newer stuff together within the same episodes, and have them turn out so seamless and cohesive. That's why I say they don't need ANY more background music, this show has a library stuffed to the rafters with great pieces, and a third of them haven't been used in over 10 years.

Someone has uploaded the full version of "Love Is Gone" from the Y&R original 1973 soundtrack. This is a great track was used until the early 90's:

Max, I don't think any of those fears are based in fact. it's just propoganda that the right wing puts out, because they are scared to death that poor people will get health care, and THEY will have to pay for it with higher taxes. that's what it all boils down to. And besides, the public option is GONE... has been for a while, what's the problem now? I have several friends who are natural born canadians, and they say that waiting lists for urgent surgeries is complete BS. There are waiting lists in a FEW places for things like hip replacements or other things that aren't life threatening... but do you honestly think people are having to wait months to have a cancerous tumor removed? Canadians would be in the streets with torches if that stuff was going on.

The Politics Thread
People are motivated out of fear. But in this case, they WERE afraid of the health care bill. It was too big, too confusing, and people don't trust politicians anymore. If they want to get meaningful health reform passed, they are going to have to SPOON FEED IT to the american public, so their little pea brains can grasp it. They need to dissect the health care bill, and pass each point individually. So everyone can understand every aspect of what's being passed. If they do it this way, the Repubs will have a much harder time standing in the way without it being political suicide. Start out with the pre-existing conditions thing. Then an expansion of medicaid to cover ALL people under 150 percent of the poverty level... and so on and so on. I'd love to see the Republicans put up roadblocks in front of a bill requiring insurers to cover autistic children... I'd just LOVE to see THAT.

I know, about time!! I did it before, but the board has changed how it works, so it took me a bit to figure it out, it's EASIER now, actually. I just had to get off my butt and do it!

What Are You Listening To?
OH WOW!! Alvin, I have to tell you, I was watching MTV the night that video debuted. (1990?) Me and my friends were all gathered round the tube... and we just LAUGHED OUR ASSES OFF, cause one friend of mine said.. "Good grief, it looks like she's got a booger on her finger, and she can't flick it off!" It's a good song, though. There were a TON of good songs out that year... the last gasp of good music (I was kind of into freestyle). This one was my favorite from that year:

Sylph... that's not bad. The British and Europeans are the only ones coming out with anything halfway listenable these days, for the most part. I just discovered a new "old" song I'd never heard before from a German singer, Alfie Khan... he sings in English, and this song is just INFECTIOUS, you can't help but get up and dance when you hear it, and it's also HEAVILY produced with choir like background singers... you might just like it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-Yr6Zs-d4

Sylph, I'm gonna check out that Lady ga-ga stuff.. but I was surfing tonight, and found a newer song that I actually LIKE. I'm stunned beyond words. It this: Maybe one reason is that it's bass line is borrowed from my friend Martha's hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxAWuZGOuTs

For heaven's sake, Sylph... what is that? Is that what dance music is like now? It's better than many things I heard last time I went to the bars. Whoever invented Trance should be shot. Goodness, I feel like a dinosaur. My idea of dance music is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J9iSpA9QTs

I FOUND IT! I've been looking for so long for a clip with the slow version of the "Genoa City Theme" in it, always LOVED the slow version... and I finally found one! I wish this piece had made it onto the soundtack album in 1974. I want to know who I'd have to fu@k to find copies of the original background score pieces (clean copies) that weren't included on that soundtrack album. I felt the original Y&R score was the best ever done on any soap, daytime or nighttime. This is the clip, I wish we had scenes like this TODAY! The piece I'm referring to is in the first part of the scene.

What Are You Listening To?
Well... I think I'll dip my foot into this thread, being a music lover. (BTW Ruxton, LOVE the Mary Jane Girls!) I love old music... I never find anything I like nowadays, except Scissor Sisters, and they SOUND like old music. I've searched for new music, and found that to get new music I like, I can go into foreign language stuff. They had some nice pop music in the 70's that wasn't done in English...my latest crush is Jurgen Marcus, he's what Leif Garrett might have been like if Leif had been better looking and actually had PIPES. I love this song, and one of the gayest performances you'll see from that time period (1972) http://www.myvideo.de/watch/3204684/Juergen_Marcus_eine_neue_Liebe_ist_wie_ein_neues_Leben

Where the Heart Is (1969-1973)
Well, if soapnet would get off their butts and do a special every ONCE IN A WHILE on historical soaps, they could negotiate to air things like this... just like Game show network did for those 9 1973 episodes of the 10,000$ pyramid that the UCLA film library had. The licensing issues for a DVD release ARE quite tedious and not worth the investment... but a simple re-airing is NOT. But of course, soapnet can't manage do put together a historical block special even ONCE A YEAR. They aired those old AMC episodes a couple years ago, and that hs been about IT as far as historical specials. It was even mentioned that soapnet's deal with sony allowed them to air archive footage of Y&R for specials and documentary. Have they availed themselves of this clause in the contract? NO. I'd love to see a repeat airing of Y&R from the beginning on soapnet, but I know they'll never do it. It would suck the viewers away form the current show.

The Politics Thread
I'm hoping that very soon that soon that SOMETHING will be done about the state of health care. If the government could simply provide a non-profit "buy in" to medicare, that would help alot of people. I hear so many pundits talk about "rationed care"... blah blah blah... theyr'e acting like the governenment is going to FORCE people to partake in a national health care plan. It has been said time and time again that if you like things the way they are, nothing has to change for you. Theyr'e just afraid they mgiht have to pay extra taxes so the working poor can have basic health care. I've also heard conservative pundits say over and over, "Why do people think the government owes us free health care"... well my question is this: WHY does the government owe us a free education? Unless I'm very much mistaken, nobody has ever dropped dead from lack of an algebra lesson, so which do you think is more improtant? I've heard suggestions on extra taxes on products such as soda pop... and I have no problem with that.... extra taxes of food or drinks which have no nutritional value. I think it would help ALOT if the government simply funded the hospitals, or at the very LEAST required all hospitals to be non-profit. If you compare the costs that the "for profit" hospitals charge in comparison wiht what the non-profit catholic hospitals charge, in many cases... the facility charge is HALF.

Well, the answer to the question of WHERE... is in the midwest, and in any community with a population of 5,000 people or less. That's where you can trust local government and schools, by and large. I'm not saying the Children need to be forced into community service of the school's choosing... there should be a broad range of activites to choose from, and like elective courses in school... the child and parent decide together which is best for them.

I don't see a problem with making this a mandatory requirement for graduation. Many times, children must be MADE to partake in something they may not like, it happens throughout childhood. But once these students are MADE to do something that will help someone else who may desperately need it, then you just might see a change in that student. You may seem him gain a sense of accomplishment and pride for doing something that helps another. It's TEACHING them to care about their fellow man, to have a generosity of spirit, to not be some self-absorbed twit who wants to be paid for EVERYTHING they do, even scratching their butt. Of course, conservatives don't want this.. because above all else conservatives value money and material posessions more than they value people (Unless said people are friends and family). We make all kinds of requirements for graduation, some... like algebra... are virtually usless in everyday life. Teaching caring and generosity, and concern for your fellow man is something that will be carried with you all your life. Forcing against the will never works with ADULTS, Brian.... but with children, gentle to moderate force is required many times and is quite effective

That music from the scene where Nina Shot David Kimball is just AWESOME. It speaks to the expertise of Alloco and Davidson, because the first portion of the scene was composed by them, while the second portion (after 2:40) was composed by McGinnis, Winn, and Todd as part of the orginal 1973 score. And notice how SEAMLESSLY they fit together, and how suspenseful they are. The only thing that's bothered me lately, is that when they DO use a McGinnis/Winn/Todd composition within the body of the show, they never credit them, and havne't for years. The end credits only credit Alloco and Davidson. Just last week, during Katherine's "I'm leaving Genoa City" scene... they pulled out version 2 of "Sally's Theme" once again... and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it when they do!! I'd just wish they'd add McGinnis/Winn/Todd to the credits when they do. I'd also love it if they used a few OTHER pieces from the 70's every once in a while, like a treat... once or twice a week or so. I'm SO glad they've dispensed with those STUPID hip-hoppy sounding pieces, everyone HATED them... I guess they finally listened and brought back the GOOD stuff. In this day of reducing budgets, they don't need to be spending ANY money on new music... they've got PLENTY of library to draw from, some of which hasn't been heard in over a decade.
