ALL: Temporary Replacements
Betty Runnel. I could make out Betty, then I cross referenced. I couldn't find anything else about her online, not even an IMDb/IBDB/ITDB entry, maybe she worked under another name, was solidly off-off-Broadway, or even some crew member's aunt.

Yeah, I don't want to unfairly judge but I can imagine Constance Ford rolling her eyes at this chick. This was Robin's first foray into being recast with a lookalike by Rauch. Would still like to see her Rachel in action though I know that'll ptobably never happen.

Oh, and do you recognize C.C., Peter Mark Richman, from DYNASTY? He was Blake's lawyer, he got the part at the last minute as Lloyd Bochner had a heart attack and couldn't procede.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
I don't know much about Santana or SB for that matter but just watching that again made me think of how utterly soapy it all was, first of all a name like SANTANA, all that '80s California glam, Dame Judith Anderson in the vintage Rolls complete with riding crop and funky cello, what it must have been like to watch this first episode "live" that day... ITA re: Margie, I had to bend my brain a little to see the Strasser resemblance which apparently won her the part. LOL at the GoGos reference, I know just what (who) you mean. Jane something... "'I. Am. Your singing telegram!' *POW!*" Yes, that must have been the Melinda ep I saw, it was in b&w kinescope.

I know what you mean about Melinda. Years before I actually saw it I'd read others' comments that she was too old for Jill at the time she played her. On WoST there was an ep from whatever soap she'd done back in the day, I'm forgetting which one at the moment, but she seemed to be very much in the Rachel Davis mold of character. Interesting seeing as how she and Victoria Wyndham both played Charlotte Bauer on GL. That's another character I'd like to see in action. I'd also like to see Margie Impert's Rachel. Margie was in the first episode of Santa Barbara: <object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/CA1i1K45gCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=345rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/CA1i1K45gCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=345rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/CA1i1K45gCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=345rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

ALL: Temporary Replacements
"It was a bit more like Liz Taylor meets Mrs. Roper." HILARIOUS. And I can totally picture that. Yes, Fabiani subbed for Zaslow, I mentioned that in my first post in this thread, and indeed, he was a rather sleepy Roger as he was a rather sleepy Jared Chase, King Galen, Barry Shire... One of these days I will get to uploading stuff I have on YouTube, I have scenes of him with Sherry Stringfield and Beverlee McKinsey. I feel like wry, smug Trevor St. John is more MZ Roger Thorpe than any of his age-appropriate recasts were.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Carl, I think you said that you've seen the stuff with Carole Shelley, I have yet to see that. What's your take? I think I remember you saying that she was a bit *theatrical*. She would not be my choice for Iris but she was nevertheless a casting coup coming off of her The Elephant Man glory. Would have loved to see Sandy Dennis as Iris, she and Beverlee both did Honey in WAOVW.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
That must be on the second link, I only have the first link with all the Iris stuff, some of which has been uploaded to YouTube. I didn't even know that Cecile was on the show when Iris was still around.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Okay, wow, I need to get with it because I have all of that on dvd from Eddie!
-
ALL: Temporary Replacements
Wait, so Susan Keith (she is only Shana and JK's wife in my mind) was the original Cecile? Or was she between two stints of the other actress? Yeah, I have a hard time imagining KMK as Dru, she is a Layla.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
I was thinking Julie, but now that you mention it... Samantha Vernon, that's a OLTL character, right?

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Now that's balls.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Yes, in '98, and there was some weird hubbub, it looked like a temp for all intents and purposes but then stuff started to seep out that this was actually a permanent recast as Torpey's contract negotiations weren't going smoothly (the implication that she was holding out and the show went forward without her). Who knows what was real or fan fabrication, but it was one of those *moments* in the "the Internet is still relatively new" age of soap fandom.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Hm. I wonder what it would have been like had Ehlers been given the role of Liza as originally intended. She certainly wouldn't have sold the sex like Luner, but BE would have pulled off the brittle bitchy quality MW had quite well.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
I mentioned Magdalena Andersson who temped for Torpey a few posts back. Some whack job wrote into SOD like, "You posted that Magdalena 'Maggie' Andersson was a temprary recast for Erin Torpey but you got it wrong as I have been watching Maggie in the role for years now, Erin was the replacement." Okay, why does SOD evenPRINT letters like that!?!? Their response was like, "We don't know what show you're watching, but Erin Torpey has..."

"Nose-rubby." Amy Carlson, she was on AW right? My first thought was the girl who played nutty buddy Molly Malone on The City. But Amy played the cop who was with Tim Gibbs, later Kevin on OLTL. Geesh, SO many Kevins...

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Do you guys remember Elizabeth Ashley as Emma Frame on AW? She did a great job with the short stint. It's funny, because I think she would have made for a great temp replacement for Beverlee McKinsey's Iris (a la another Broadway great, Carole Shelley) and of course McKinsey was the original Emma. I'd love to see Elizabeth Ashley on OLTL mixing it up with Slezak and Strasser, I read that she recently guested on Treme and I can hardly wait to see that. I get such a kick out of this clip (♫White. Liiines...♫)" <object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/Z56U-13hQGg&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/Z56U-13hQGg&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/Z56U-13hQGg&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

ALL: Temporary Replacements
I seem to remember that there was some sort of connection between Louise Shaffer and Judith McGilligan, I want to say that they both went to the Yale School of Drama but I'm not sure. I remember connecting some dots when Judith's eps aired on SN four or five years ago, though I don't recall now.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Yeah, I never knew about Bassey as Lisa, come to think of it she kind of looks like Jane Powell (maybe it's just the haircut). But Lisa's had a lot of replacements over the years, huh? She was even recast, and I'm forgetting the lady's name but I know it has something to do with designer jeans. But more replacements than I'd expect from a character like her, would kind of be like Susan Lucci having multiple temps (amazingly she's never had even one though someone in Another Thread said that Jean Burke was thinking of subbing her with Lisa Peluso when she fell ill in '00). Years ago when AW was still on the air, long before Mary Smythe, I thought that Anna Stuart looked like she could temp as Erica. I also thought Sally Field (solely based on Soapdish), a wigged Goldie Hawn, and even Raquel Welch might fit the bill.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Yeah, I think the late Harriet Hall (whose Brooke I've never seen though I understand there's an episode of her on YouTube) is more in the category of an Elizabeth Savage as Gwyn on LOV or Elaine Princi as Dorian on OLTL even, full-on recasts who lasted a scant few years and were ultimately replaced by the actresses they replaced.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Anna Stuart as Rae was kinda cute b/c it was like petite Anna playing Linda Dano dress-up. I think she was only on a day, two at most, right? Her lines could have been given to Renee or someone else, really. But I was just pleased to see an AW alum working, and Anna and Linda are pals so that's nice. They actually did Mame in summer stock together, Linda as Mame, Anna as Vera. I also thought that Anna's AMC character Mary Smythe was dressed very Dano-esque, the sleek lines and the jewelry in particular. Victoria Wyndham and Felice Camargo, I think that is just so cool. To be siblings so close in looks and age, both in the biz pinch-hitting for one another, I just find that awesome. And Robert Mandano (he was also in the original list, yer slippin' Scotty, yer slippin' ) and Kamar are buds so that's also cool.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
I wonder what the rules are on using those song titles, if they have to pay or if titles are fair use when the actual music isn't involved. Maybe they were afraid that at four shows a week it would have been MORE confusing having too many titles, but if that's the case they might as well have just used one title per week. At any rate, I've never found the titles for this show that helpful anyway, they aren't terribly descriptive and seem like they could apply to any one of the myriad of problems these kids face. I think in Friends-style titles anyway, e.g., "The one where Joey, Snake and Wheels crash the car and get it fixed but actually the light was already busted."

Degrassi: The Next Generation
Was just gonna say, looks like they moved on up to the '90s and beyond. Isn't it going to be kind of confusing have multiple episodes with the same title? Oh well, I guess not really, "99 Problems A", "99 Problems B" or whatever. I thought it was 5 shows a week, so it's just two? I wonder how this is all going to turn out, if by chance there will be a dip in quality and if that will immediately be attributed to the writers "spreading themselves too thin."
