I hate to beat a dead horse, but compare these scenes to Marj's scenes at the CC at Mindy and Nick's engagement party. The controlled venom of Bev to Marj's screeching at Roger. I wish they had just let Alex go to Europe and made a new character for Marj...its like recasting Bert Bauer or Reva..or as we would unfortunatley see, Roger. Those scenes, who knew Frankie D could actually be sexy and not just boring. He needed a DIVA to bring it out, and I forgot that nice guy Frank who liked.shady ladies was much preferable to romantic hero Frank or boring married dad Frank. I think an honorable mention should go to Henry and the face he made when Alex mentions Rog trying to sneak into the exec dining room. Mindy and Mallet were hot, though I can see why they went the Nick route, they just let it ride too long and turn Righteous Vengeous Queen Alex to a pathetic shrew. I loved how they had Bridget in Ed and Mo's life and love the face Mo made to Bridget's bed comment. God the show was great then!

Thanks! And yes, I think Marland was a terrible prude and is one of those writers who could make sex..unsexy!! His characters were too damn serious all the time and even his family scenes were devoid of warmth ( I grew up in farmland and I have never seen such a cold sad sack farm family in my life!) His first year or two were great but after that... I much preferred Long/Curlee even if their structure was off and they didn't honor history as well. Marland was either sexless in real life or one of those uptight prudey people who are NUTS about it in secret!

I forget that MH won for Best Younger Performer over even Buffy herself! A year or so later Bridget was chasing back after Hart and thinking about plastic surgery to compete with Dinah. I wonder how pairing Bridget with Rick would have gone..Abby was only a few years older.. Interesting comments about Marland and the Dobsons and Potter. I am more interested in the BTS stuff then how the Carmen actress is doing during Covid.

Mr. Tony Reardon..hot as hell..poor Frank Cooper was always a pale imitation. I heard he was difficult but did Beacroft leave on his own and why was he never asked back as an older, wiser, even sexier Tony? Wonder what he would have been like it Ehlers..or even Zimmer??Brown does look overjoyed at that time with GH GL was an also ran and that and the other ABC shows were getting all the press.

I loved the prime time version..but NBC was stupid, putting it on a Friday night where the demo they were looking for were "out" That DS was on the bubble as it had great demos despite the night..(this was a bit before the net chasing the demo over total viewership) but it was also very expensive.

Talk aobut self esteem or respect, the soap industry has none, they are always looking at what prime time and film are doing (and of course picking the wrong things and not doing them right) and TPTB are the worst. They were stunned by his Hollywood connections and that he didn't know anything about soaps and seemed to think they were a joke, just like them! And I am saying this as a fan of his first year. I do hate when news story think a 50 year old show must suck...and forget about the firsts that came before. And, as a fan of his first year, what new ground did he tread? I don't remember anything. At the very least he hated the island and the mob of GL and wouldnt write for the show because of that!

If you can find it they are great! I remember this started when I was in college and a bunch of us would rush to the lounge to watch..like when we were kids and Dark Shadows, and then I started working and couldnt wait to get home to watch the "tape"! Twists, turns, soap messiness creatively fixed and a heart.

Well, maybe the 20 people left watching GL at that time will tune in! Regarding Soni/Solita...soap viewers became really stupid and lazy if they were confused...and no wonder we got the cartoon version of Solita-Annie (oh she went nuts because of a man/she was always EVIL) Sonni and Solita were twin sisters who lived in a very traditional Catholic family and society...Solita was the "wild" one but not evil as her father and town thought of her. Sonni went to Will met up with him and had sex, her father found out and thinking it was Solita beat the crap out of her and dragged her through town calling her a slut. Solita would not tell anyone it was Sonni who was with Will and she (Solita) hung herself in the convent in a closet. Sonni found her and her guilt took on Solita "alternate personality" throught the lens of her rigid upbrining of Solita being a slut and evil. Suicide is a mortal sin so her father buried Sonni's body on the ranch. Sonni reverted to Solita after her accident and came back to murder Josh with Will, who actually thought she was Solita. It was all very gothic and noir and one of the best storylines on GL..involved everyone from the Spauldings to Ed Bauer. Reva was not a saint in this..(she gave as good as she got and made a ton of her own selfish mistakes) nor was Josh. It just made Annie vs. Reva look like a cartoon...though an enteratining one. The only thing I think Long may have changed during the strike is the split personality thing as the scab writers had Solita acting as a shrink when she was impersonating Sonni (in post 1990 soaps that would have been glossed over.) Maybe her original plan was that there were indeed two sisters alive and Solita did come back to kill Josh but that she went nuts because of what had happened with her father.

Yes, it was..it dragged on all through the summer as the scab writers wisely knew to hold off...you could tell they were stalling for time. So weird that back in the day I could tell when Long and the writers were back. Sonni had "killed" Will and dumped his body in the lake, and he was torturing her by turning on her facets and her hearing water dripping all the time..sound dumb but it was creepy and good!

Taggert was hittiing her stride then, and I would say the lack of emotion on the eariler episodes were more then likely Rauch's fault as I heard Taggert was fighting him tooth and nail, after getting the edict to make "GL..GL again" for the anniversary. How quickly Joan/Alex's confident, sly Alex turned into a schreeching shrew drugging por little Alan under Conboy/Weston.

Agreed, he was one of those actors/characters that soaps need, good looking, but approachable, good at romance and light comedy, and really never going to do heavy drama but that's okay, not everything has to be heavy drama and soaps need people and actors who are strong at other stuff, (on GL MOL should never have had drama or romance, he just worked as a nice guy buddy and had great, non sexual chemistry with everyone on the show.)

I like how they include Blake in the Bauer family dynamics. I know people LOVE SS as Blake but I like LK as a grown up more mature version, raised really as a Bauer. LK is so big sister maternal here (while still being a bit nervous with the whole domestic thing) that I still think that Ross and Blake should have transitioned to tentpoles and moved into the Bauer house, and I would have moved Rick to the lighthouse on his own and just had him as doctor and best friend to everyone. The show is starting to show signs of being "The Buzz Cooper Show, starring..JUSTIN DEAS" but isnt there yet. I loved Julie the bitch (Wright had a similar vibe, beautiful woman everyone thinks is perfect but a bitch underneath it) and I am sorry, Eleni's accent is so bad! The actress truly brought the star power to that couple and they should have had them move out of town and maybe brought Frank D back as support in a couple of years (God knows he would not ahve another acting job.) I don' t understand why Long or Curlee werent brought back as consultants after JFP. No stress, big money, they take your ideas or dont.

Agreed, werent they going to recast Chele right before the cancellation announcement. I didnt see word on Danny so I am sure they were going there. Imagine the Manniacs screaming!!! Agreed on Gus being a Spaulding..it was stupid and totally contradicted what we saw with Joan/Alex ..then we had Marj/Alex screeching and drugging Alan, Macn'Cheese Alan, and then that reveal which amounted to ..nothing. I kept forgetting Gus was a Spaulding.

They always should have made the remaining Santos mob adjacent. Have Daddy Santos be a small time hood enforcer for a mob. Carmen's secret backstory is that she was forced into prostitution and married Santos to get out. The first Santos that was killed was their son but Danny is really the son of Gus's dad a cop, that Daddy Santos then killed, and then attacking Carmen she kills him. After that..she tries to be legitimate but her shady ways get in the way. This gives Carmen some rootability and extends Gus out of just Harley and keeps him from the brain dead "Hes Alans' son!" I really like SS but man, the ridiculous mob boss in a pastel suit Cruella Deville worked against her and the show every time, and sweet PAS never worked as a mobster in training. The Winslows just sucked.

MADD just loved her forumla and Manny were one of them, despite them not working after the recast. Would have loved to see Danny with a renewed hardscrabble Cassie..and think it would be hilarious to see Carmen threaten a scowling screeching Cassie. Why do some soap viewers invest so much in a couple despite recasts and not working and its just tired and over with?

Lord, yes, the boring Vicky smiling all the time. The first Vicky was better and they brought her on as the clone docs assistant..(how she had medical knowledge plus her busienss but..) and then after Michael blew up the lab to protect the clone secrets Van went on a rampage and exposed her as Vicky Spaulding. They were making Van more back to her bad girl days and more like Alex, a strong woman who did not take any [!@#$%^&*], and it looked like Alan and Vicky vs. Van as president .. all interesting stuff and would have given Matt a reason to fall into Beth's bed with his newly ruthless wife, but then they brought back Alex B & E said Vicky's story couldnt be told without Alex, Van went back to sighing all the time, Alex disappeared without a trace and they recast Vicky into the smiling woman who did nothing. Typical B & E. I can only think they were gearing up to Van vs. Alan over Spaulding with Matt going for Beth but it all fell apart and was changed, etc. I dont think she is but if she was she would have made a great Vicky...I LOVED her character, it just wasnt Amanda! I remember the time she was locked into a shed in winter, but got out, went to the Country Club, had cocktails with Dinah, and went back and pretended to have been locked in the whole time. It was actually also one of the only times I liked Marj's verison of Alex, the two of them had great bitchy chemistry.

Its too bad the Vicky Spaulding was boring and didnt fit into Rauch's "Blond Babes" GL. I would have given most of Toby Poser's Amanda material to Vicky.(leaving out the Malibu Madame).who didn't agree with her mother allowing Alex to have the bulk of Brandon's estate and comes to claim her own power. She would be hostile to Alex and side with Alan on all his fights with Alex, etc. Alex, having a good relationship with Victoria (as she stayed out of her way) would have no idea why Vicky was hostile. Having a strong black woman taking on the white establishment in a soap opera way would have been interesting, but way beyond the GL that would not allow Gilly to be paired with AM and certainly not in Rauch/MADD cartoon world.

I loved HB but realize he is not everyone's cup of tea. Never a fan of SB and I know I am in the minority there, He is a good actor but his Craig, even when bad, was so weak..his "love" always came off as obsessive and needy to me, even with Sierra or whomever. But that's me. What I don't get is why HB left GL? He was great as Ben Warren, (instead of Ross brother I would have made him Ed and Rita's kid to give the Bauers a kick in the ass. I actually like him with BC who was the first guy I liked her with on GL.

Its odd as that baby story could have played out with Mo being alive instead of giving it to Van. Mo leaves Ed and takes over the Boarding House..Bridget is preggers, and Mo says we will raise the baby together..lets say she does not know Hart is the father. Bridget sees how much Mo loves the kid and lets her adopt the kid while she can still be in his life. They do that for a while, and she and Ed get together..there would be no custody battle but drama when all finds out that Ed is the adoptive father of Rogers grandson. Ed was to blame and I am sorry, I know Simon is a good actor but he is such a COLD fish! And the only reason Jill listened to the focus groups is that she wanted to free up money to hire Deas and turn the show into the Buzz Hour..which we all know how well that worked out. Anyone who works with focus groups know how easy they are to sway into corporate line of thinking. I am sure Jill showed Mo cleaning the kitchen or something and wow..she's boring. Of course, the focus group was probably full of viewers who think clones, fairy princes, and the Real Housewives drunkenly screaming at each other is exciting..(okay, I love the drunken HWs of New York schreeching at each other but..)
