    I can't see one anywhere.

Thanks for the replies @AbcNbc247, @Bright Eyes and @Contessa Donatella! I have missed my Days fix.

Hey, you're welcome. I just re-read my notes for that episode. I take notes while I watch the show. Then I may use them to write a post or whatever. Then every once in awhile I go through & toss or keep accordingly. That day included the young actors who were cast as Young Tom & Young Alice & they had a picnic. Leo was taking notes to write a straight story, not a gossip column. Susan (Julie) had several monologues as she was primarily the one telling history. I remembered really enjoying the show that day.

    Change of subject:

Did anyone get any writing credits yet? I just looked at the closing credits for yesterday. No writers shown. So maybe yesterday Ron only tweaked & maybe his first official day is actually next week.

Was there ever an official start date as to when Ron’s scripts were gonna start airing again?

Well, he said "May". And, it is May. And, clearly he is back. (I'm just teasing you. I never saw a specific day, just the month!)

You can tell Ron's back because the writing for Leo is more over-the-top.  LOL   So it looks like the strike-writers waited and didn't conclude the baby-switch and Constantine stories - they let Carlivati do it since they were his stories.  In any case, I'm ready to get exciting again.  Looking forward to next week.

But the writing for Leo was also better.

    Hi all,

I just have a few questions re Days please. Firstly, has Doug had an on screen funeral yet? Also, I was wondering whether the flashback episode in February which featured Tom and Alice Horton was worth watching? Thanks in advance.

I really enjoyed that episode. I would say, yes, watch it.

They just taped the Doug Memorial, so it will be months before it airs.

However, if you wanted to see Bill's service it is up on YouTube.

Several regimes have neglected Liz or demoted her presence on the show. She’s essentially the new Amy Vining now, lol, only Liz has kids.

Yeah, well, when they fired/rehired, wasn't that 2012? 12 years ago! It's not like we can pin this on PM. He certainly inherited it!! And, yeah, @dragonflies people always reach for Sharon on Y&R as the other contemporary example. I will say, though it was odd the other day. In dialog, Liz couldn't be found in the hospital & was said to have been working a double, or a 12 hr shift, but then later someone said she was sick! Good grief.

Rebecca Herbst has 10 episodes in the last two months.  I'm concerned about that.  Does anyone know if she was away from the show?  I hope that's the reason and not because Korte/Mulcahey don't want to write for her.

My understanding of it is that quite frankly Frank & Korte do not like her, do not want her, feel stuck with her, tried to fire her & had to back off that idea because of fan uproar. But, that is also very old news. It is an explanation for why she has had so much drek written "for her". I mean her stories aren't really about her. She's had stories that were really about Franco, really about Finn, really about her parents, etc. In recent memory the only thing that has really been hers is when they made her Head Nurse, right? I've thought that the reason she is not as engaged as some of the actors is because of her lack of standing with the Head Honchos. She doesn't do Social Media & she doesn't do events. The perception is that she does her job & goes home to her family. And, I'm not criticizing that.

I agree the episodes tend to just end.  It's not a real cliffhanger and the credits come up and I am like I guess it's over now lol.  I just figured PM/EK were running through previous material and course correcting slightly on the way.

Now, maybe it's me but I have a sixth sense about the end coming up & without fail I can say, "Next on General Hospital" with the voiceover.

And, yes, Taby is very very tiny. Her tininess puts Becky & Kemo's to shame! So, yes, she also beats Lucci. And, Vanessa isn't that short, is she? She's not like 5'5"? Finola says she's 5'5" & I noticed in the photos from the NJ event last weekend that she is significantly shorter than LW & CW who seem the same height. Then, Taby, of course, is significantly shorter than Finola is.

Thank you. This is so hilariously typical of AI: on the one hand, a set of very plausible quite grammatical sentences that are on the other hand almost entirely factually wrong or at best inane. It doesn't know how to identify the beginning of the soap and mentions characters who were created years later.

I am so glad that you "get it". I find a particular relish in playing with AI. I would never tempt myself & it if I did not know the subject well. Because from the many examples I have accrued, I get a kick out of what it gets right, what it gets wrong, what it gets wrong that is also quite hilarious to me!!! But I have learned one thing. You cannot "get onto it". You can correct it & it will thank you. But if you are exasperated with it & let that show, it will tell you it cannot talk to you anymore because it is too upset & it will shut off & not come back on until some time passes. How is that for temperament?!!

I would love to see multi-generational dynamics in which we have a younger character whose single pipe dreaming about the day in which she can FINALLY be like young people of yesterday who didn't have to constantly buy from thrift stores and buy from discount grocery stores like Dollar Tree (like I have to do) and had a huge credit card debt. Then she is hired by an older women to be her personal companion who manages to pay her a salary with a live-in position that would guarantee her a life where she can live modestly. She doesn't really want to be rich but comfortable. But then she meets the older woman's husband and (you can infer the rest! Ha!).

But in the LGBTQ+ version it is the older woman she falls for!

But about the desirability of one demo group over another, I always said that the ad agencies were selling a bill of goods. It never made any common sense at all!

  9. General Hospital, the show that became known for

casting, recasting, recasting again, recasting just one more time ...

4 actors in search of salary, benefits, union card & finally, the chance to spill your guts on State Of Mind!

I thought I was the only one that noticed.  You can feel Deidre Hall's hate on screen lol.  Suzanne must have really pissed Dee off.

I'm glad someone finally brought this up. For years, it was weird that they never shared a scene. Then, Voila! It happened. Now, since then, it happens with a fair regularity. Only thing is Dee's not acting like Marlena, Dee's just being herself, apparently.

I am reminded of THE GOOD WIFE & that iconic scene where two actresses were in the same scene, sitting side by side at a bar when in actuality they were filmed separately & spliced together in Post: Edit. DAYS should be doing that!!!

    24 minutes ago, carolineg said:

I was also side eyeing Marlena's scenes with Nicole/Holly.  Not because of hatred, but her advice was to tell Holly to take a deep breath!  And she was asking Nicole, as a Dr., if she was still in love with her own son.  That's just really weird and unprofessional.

It has become a real problem. This thing that there is only one shrink in the whole town!

I'll be honest.  They still look like the same teenage boy to me even side by side. Lol

So, if we figure that they're going to do a 'gay teen being bullied' story & they realized they needed someone with more acting chops, then, this look-a-like-ness is it brilliant casting or just too weird for words?! If we only knew whether this came from Mark Teschner or from Frank!

Nielsen still tracks sweeps periods as it is the one that sets the dates, but the networks don't care about it outside of ensuring more original programming airs within those months (November, February, May). Other than that, sweeps months remain important for local stations as those months still determine their future ad rates. Programming that emphasizes the importance of sweeps on local stations includes local programming (news, information, etc.) and syndicated fare like talk shows and game shows. More importantly, only local stations monitor the lesser known July sweeps month, which is odd considering most syndicated programs are in reruns. To a lesser extent, and somewhat contradictory to what I said above, broadcast shows such as The View and The Talk traditionally air originals in July because of the sweeps period. By earlier August, they typically head into reruns.

As for Peacock, they do not give a damn about sweeps and neither does any other streamer. They are, however, tracked by Nielsen in terms of viewership figures so they can claim bragging rights when the right show hits or outperforms expectations.

Thanks for clarifying. Can you comment on Nielsen losing its accreditation & NBCUniversal mounting what sounds like a campaign to find new metrics systems.

Well, I ran out of money so I can't subscribe to Hulu again until next week. I'm still trying to find someone who can share theirs with me. So I have know idea.

Nothing new has happened to or with Tracy or Gregory.

But none of it feels organic. Every day feels like a "Let's Move On to Something Else Day."

To me it feels organic, authentic, character-driven, etc. They seem almost all of the time to be having characters say things that if they'd been thoughtful or intentional before, would have been saying these things. Now they are. It also almost always seems to me that they are either building something or positioning things. I imagine Patrick, with too many characters, trying to connect everyone to each other & to everything in some sort of soap opera everything all at once at the same time! I enjoy the ride every single day. The characters I used to hate I now only dislike a bit. On Saturday I wish there was a new episode. I feel like I used to feel about soaps. And, tomorrow Happy Birthday to Another World!

Thanks. So May doesn't matter that much specifically, but if ratings are suddenly, sharply down, it will. I don't think that is because of Mulcahey and Korte, I think the show has been treading water and heading for an inevitable fall that was likely pushed by some recent departures and decisions, but if ABC does blame them I won't be shocked.

I'm hoping they will go by the rule of thumb, either 6 months or 2 Sweeps periods. But, who knows?!! ABCD/Disney own it & that makes a difference. The show is doing well on Hulu & that counts. Errol tells me that The View is #1 in HHs/Total Viewers, GH is #1 in Demos, GMA3 is #3 period, nothing else is worth mentioning & that those positions are regular & continuing. I believe Disney is interested in how it does against the rest of the day rather than against CBS or Peacock.

  15. 17 minutes ago, DRW50 said:

Is there such a thing as sweeps now?

Well, since you asked. Nielsen doesn't do Sweeps periods anymore. Haven't done so for, I think, 4 years, maybe 5. However, the shows continue to program for the same 4 Sweeps periods, including Peacock which wouldn't be under Nielsen scrutiny even if they did do the old 4 weeks 4 times a year.

I don't know if Lucy has ever even had a team. Clearly the current writers have no use for her...

Sonny always wins out in the end. The current story has an escape hatch for him via the meds.

A few things. Sonny's not doing rage this time. He's doing paranoia. He has a real reason to be paranoid. Someone IS trying to kill him. Hmm, I guess that's just one thing.

  16. Irna Phillips has been called the mother of daytime drama. She created many radio soaps. She created or co-created many TV soaps including Guiding Light, As the World Turns, The Right to Happiness, The Brighter Day, These Are My Children, Days of Our Lives, Our Private World, Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, A World Apart and Another World. She had two amazing proteges - Bill Bell & Agnes Nixon. She was a mentor to Ted & Betty Corday. She taught Harding "Pete" Lemay how to write a soap.

Sometime in 1963 NBC indicated to P&G that they'd like Irna to create a new soap for them. It is a common misconception that it was only on NBC because CBS had no room for it. There are at least two other misconceptions. It was created as neither a sister soap nor a spin-off of As the World Turns. Agnes Nixon did not put a bunch of characters on a plane & have them crash or explode. It simply never happened. Agnes Nixon did save the show from an early cancelation. She did it by being its 3rd Headwriter & the single story element that was the most famous part of its being saved was an iconic romantic triangle - Alice, Steve & Rachel.

The show debuted on May 4, 1964. It is a little oddity that P&G did not own it until sometime in 1967. Prior to that it was owned by Irna Phillips, Bill Bell (who helped some & so gets a co-creator credit), Rose Cooperman (Irna's secretary who typed up every script) & Arno Phillips, who is Irna's brother who was her original typist.

I asked AI if it would write me a story about the beginning of this, my favorite soap.

In the quaint town of Bay City, the residents were abuzz with excitement. It was a special day, a day that marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm glow over the familiar streets and houses.

At the Cory mansion, the wealthy family was preparing for a grand celebration. Rachel Cory, the matriarch of the family, was overseeing the preparations with a smile on her face. Her children, Amanda and Matthew, were busy helping out, eagerly anticipating the arrival of their guests.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Dr. John Hudson was making his rounds, his mind occupied with thoughts of the new nurse who had just joined the staff. He couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement at the prospect of getting to know her better.

In the heart of the town, the residents of the local diner were gathered around, sharing stories and laughter. Ada, the owner of the diner, was busy serving up her famous pies, her face beaming with pride at the happy chatter of her customers.

As the day turned into night, the town of Bay City came alive with music and laughter. The debut of "Another World" had brought the community together, forging new connections and strengthening old bonds. And as the stars twinkled in the sky, the residents of Bay City knew that this was only the beginning of many more adventures to come.

    Happy anniversary, "Another World"!

Totally true.  I always considered Carly/Drew as a C level pairing that no one was invested in lol.  I know Nina/Sonny have like 5 to 10 vocal fans.😂

    Very funny.

Drew & Carly definitely a stopgap couple.

Nina & Sonny, well Mo counts for a lot & then Nina fans were for whatever Nina was doing that week. I don't see anyone pining for it. Fans are engaged in Nina & Drew, some hate it & a great many are loving it even if they think it's perverse. Similarly, Sonny fans are absorbed in what in the heck is up with Ava, although I've seen a fair amount of people wondering why Sonny didn't bed Natalia. When Ava & Sonny hit the sheets, I think those people will be sufficiently distracted.

Also though many people felt like they saw real electric current flow between Drew & Jordan.

Brick & Jordan is really beneath contempt.

I think that Lucy should be forced out as the head of Deception and Maxie should take charge of the company. I am done with the Lucy character, and she should be retired from the show.

I don't know about going that far but I do think they are heading in the direction of diminishing Lucy's role considerably & Maxie stepping into a leadership position.

    19 minutes ago, Aragorn said:

The new writers want a Quartermaine revival.

Yes, some things are on the rise & some things are definitely not.

Rising: Team Q, Team Jason, Team Maxie, Team Kids,

Falling: Team Cassadine, Team Sonny, Team Lucy,

And a whole bunch of question marks!
