  1. I'm beginning to think we should just do away with the concept of hate crime. We spend so much time and energy trying to decide what is or isn't one, it becomes just another way for the system to deny justice to victims.
  2. Trump can't stand not being the center of attention even when it would be in his best interest. Slate looks at polling data and finds that Hillary was right. It is about half of Trump's supporters.
  3. I really don't see how this is being spun as a transparency issue. Since when do people expect to be updated every time an elected official has a cold or the stomach flu? I hope that she says that she did what millions of Americans do every day: she went to work sick. There was work to be done and she pushed on. Then pivot to how at least she has access to a doctor who will come to her home when millions of Americans don't even get sick days. New parents have to go back to work mere weeks after the birth of a baby. She could take this episode and use it to discuss her plan for health care and paid family leave.
  4. Well at this point the only choice she has is to release medical information. It's not going to go away until she does this. She already released her medical records back when she declared. She had to in order to get in front of that whole thing about her past concussion. I'll be honest, if she were up against anyone other than Trump I'd be worried about this but the bottom line is that anything can happen in two months. Trump could wet his pants during the debate. Pence could get caught pulling a Larry Craig. There's probably going to be one or two more mass shootings before the election. I'm kind of surprised that the right wing hasn't claimed she was faking the whole thing for sympathy points. They seem to go back and forth between Lying Hillary and Dying Hillary.
  5. I've been kind of surprised at the muted (at least from what I expected) reaction to Hillary's comment so far. I expected far more outrage than I'm seeing.
  6. I agree that she shouldn't have said that half his supporters are deplorable. I think that was overstating their numbers. I knew there would be some kind of walk back but that isn't as bad as I imagined.
  7. I think she will too but I hope not.
  8. I don't consider that a gaffe. I hope and pray she said that on purpose. That is the Hillary Clinton I fell in love with. That is the Hillary that was half the reason I voted for Bill.
  9. WikiLeaks has basically become a tool of Putin. WikiLeaks has just been an outlet for Assange and his elitist attitude and petty grievances. The guy is a rapist afraid to leave an embassy. Frankly he's become a total joke. Unfortunately he's a joke trying to swing our election. I have to admit that I once thought Wikileaks was a good thing but now I see Assange for what he is: an anarchist. The final straw for me was when he doxxed all those women in Turkey. If he were a journalist as he claims then he would have redacted people's personal information.
  10. Nope. Anyone tied to Trump either has a diagnosable personality disorder, is devoid of conscience or power hungry. His supporters can be excused somewhat because most of them are living a life where they thought being white and male would guarantee them certain privileges but now they are being treated like minorities and it's made them insane with rage. The black guy in the White House was once a concept so foreign Chris Rock was able to make a comedy about it. Now it's real and for a lot of these people it is the literal destruction of "their" country. But the people who have decided to actively support him - the ones who should know better - are basically nihilists who want to watch the world burn like Assange or cynical power craving madmen who want to be the Dick Cheney to his George Bush.
  11. Races always tighten up the closer we get to the election. I know it's appalling to think that after all the millions of ways Trump has shown his lack of fitness that anyone would decide at this late date to support him but there it is. I continue to believe that polling in a post landline world is just going to be less reliable because landlines skew old, white and rural. The rest of the world pretty much doesn't even answer the phone if they don't recognize the number and of the ones who do even fewer of them are going to spend 10-30 minutes on the phone answering questions. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to "unskew" polls but by their very nature they sample a specific kind of voter.
  12. I don't believe there is anything she can do. The hate for Hillary is the result of 30 years of non-stop partisan attacks and no matter what she does the media will do what it wants to. One needs only look at the coverage of the The Clinton Foundation to see that. This is an organization that provides AIDS drugs, vaccines and clean water to millions of people around the world and they'd happily gut it because of "optics."
  13. It really is. What a vastly better world we'd live in if he'd never existed.
  14. I think it's a good group. I like the diversity of picks. I doubt Trump will be able to handle being moderated by a woman, gay man and/or a black man so I think it will push him closer to a breakdown which is my fervent hope. I want this election to end with Trump in a psych ward. Honestly, I think he'll bail after the first debate. He'll complain that he wasn't treated "fairly" and flounce.
  15. The taco truck outside my office is doing pretty good business today. I think that insane statement made everyone hungry! LOL!
  16. Once again it's the "comedians" who do actual journalism. Wonkette does a deep dive into Hillary's mental health policy which got overshadowed by all the coverage of Anthony Weiner's dick.
  17. Cleveland did the same thing with the prosecutor who gamed the grand jury over Tamir Rice's death. It's a similar situation where the new guy isn't exactly a whole lot better but at least he knows that voters are paying attention.
  18. I find it wonderful.
  19. Greg and Jenny's wedding. I kind of have to laugh at the "exterior" sounds every time someone opens a door. That barking dog really gets around.
  20. It's embarrassing - oh I just want to help those poor poor black and Latino people not get shot and get good jobs. Sad thing is it may work if people are wary enough of Clinton. It might work on white suburbanites but it also is an excellent turnout motivator for black people. Trump is a one man "souls to the polls" turnout machine. So true. I can't help but notice that the media isn't even talking to black voters about whether or not we want to see Trump or care what he thinks. We don't. Nobody is fooled by this.
  21. Tika on Late Night with Stephen Colbert. I have to admit that I wasn't all that impressed with Tika on OLTL at first but I definitely think she grew into a a really solid actress by the time she left.
  22. Friends from Ohio long ago warned about Kasich. They found it almost laughable that media had him pegged as something of a moderate Republican voice when he is anything but moderate. It is only in comparison with Trump, does Kasich look anywhere near moderate. So much this. Kasich is as much a zealot as the rest of the GOP. He just puts on this "aw shucks" demeanor in public while he commits his garbage in the shadows.
  23. "What do you have to lose?" My safety, well-being, and possibly even my life when some Dylan Roof wannabe all hopped up on their white fragility and illusions of "winning" decides to open fire on black people. http://thegrio.com/2016/08/16/trump-supporter-urges-patriots-to-shoot-black-women-and-children/
  24. I just found out this morning that we had a Naked Trump statue here in Cleveland. I assume because the convention was here. It's already been taken away. I'm hoping another one pops up.
  25. Not even five days. He'll crack by his next rally. He can't control himself when he's in front of his fans. They demand the bomb thrower, the insults, the attacking of the press and dammit, he's going to give it to them. Not only will he give it to them, he'll double down.
