  1. Which leads itself to the response "Who *was* hot enough for you to assault?"
  2. The NY Times invites Trump to go !@#$%^&*] himself.
  3. Somebody noted after the DNC convention that Trump has taken shots at every one of Hillary surrogates...except Michelle Obama.
  4. Trump has basically become white Bill Cosby.
  5. Whoever did this ad deserves an award. I've watched it three times and I cry every time.
  6. Once again my city does me proud. They actually started marching to the Board of Elections before sunrise this morning. One thing Cleveland knows how to do is turn early voting into a party. Obama's going to be here Friday. Mom and I are going to try to see him. She even went to the beauty shop today so she could get coiffed for her boy.
  7. I'd like to think they'll lose a chunk of the house this year but I'm not hopeful. Until we fix gerrymandering the GOP will always have an advantage and we won't even have a chance at that until after the 2020 census.
  8. It's already bled into other parts of the government and our democracy. That's how we ended up here. I think the first job of the GOP will be to try and get the tea party under control. I don't know how they do that though.
  9. This is alarming. First he threatens Hillary with imprisonment, and now any perceived political threat is removed by any means necessary. I'm no fan of the Republican Party, but this is unprecedented and needs to stopped. Its time for R leadership to remove him from the ticket. They can't remove him from the ticket. He would have to step down and even if he did that they would have to essentially have a new convention to name a replacement. They don't have the time for that. Early voting has started and Trump's name is on those ballots. I predict we'll see a whole new wave of attacks on early voting because of this.
  10. Count me among the people having Trump fatigue. Now that the polls are solid, Ohio's back in the Hillary column and early voting has begun, I've decided to back off a bit and breathe. Everyone is in "pile on" mode now. They're kicking Trump just for the fun of it.
  11. The calls for Trump to step down are just theatre. It can't happen. http://time.com/4523892/donald-trump-republican-nominee-step-down/
  12. A lot of people keep waiting for him to say or do something that will turn off his supporters. That's never going to happen because his supporters see him as a mythical figure where the rules of society, history and decency don't apply. Trump's fanbase is more like a megachurch than a campaign. Or more accurately a cult. He's very Jim Jones in his way of making promises and acting like God is on his side. Anyone thinking that Trump can drive his supporters away is engaging in false hope and frankly I'm a little tired of the naiveté from some of my fellow lefties who seem to think this is a TV show where the villain gets taken down through some fatal error. That said, those people aren't the majority of the electorate. I've been genuinely heartened to see people on the other side of the aisle recognize Trump for the threat he is and put party to the side. The last time this country came together like that was 9/11. As for the media, they've gotten a nice and necessary bit of schooling during this election but I think it's important to separate the entertainment media from journalists. Yes, most of it has been as Vee describes, glib and amoral, but a lot of journalists found their brains again. David Farnenthold deserves a Pulitzer for his investigative reporting this year. Newsweek has done some stellar work as has the NY Times even though it can't quite seem to step away from their Clinton hate. Print journalism seems to have rediscovered what its role is. Sadly electronic journalism is still in the dark *waves to Matt Lauer* For me the real question is what happens after the election. Does the media go back to false equivalence or does dodging this bullet give them a new perspective? Will those who put country over party continue to do so or will they go back to business as usual?
  13. I hope that he doesn't step down. The party needs to burn for what it created.
  14. Something else to remember is that people are actually voting now. A lot of that other stuff didn't matter because there was always time to try and make him seem normal. Now it's too late because people can actually go to the polls.
  15. The Supreme Court. That's what this is about. The next president will probably name up to three SCOTUS justices and the GOP will self-immolate if that means it gets to be them. Frankly, even if Trump won, the GOP would race to put a bullet in him so that Mike Pence would be the one naming judges.
  16. Jonathan Groff and Renee Elise Goldsberry (OLTL) both appear in this video.
  17. He's not exactly breaking any news with this, so I don't think it will hurt her. I also see Hillary as extraordinarily ambitious. She wouldn't be where is if she weren't. I don't see anything wrong with that. I'll also agree that she's not going to transform anything, but with Trump running, the status quo never looked so good. As for Bill, well, if he couldn't control his impulses when he was literally in the oval office, there is no reason to think he's doing so now. Again, I don't much care under the circumstances. I expect HRC to play blocker against the republicans, more than I expect her to actually get a lot of her own agenda accomplished. If scandal comes along that shouldn't stop her from blocking the way it derailed Bill Clinton's time in office. At least, that's my hope. I don't think it will hurt her either, but I don't like how he links her to Bill, as that as anything to do with how she could run the country. Also, in my opinion, he was using "unbridled ambition" as an insult. I like the fact that she's determined and also detailed-oriented (something else that she is given a hard time about). It's possible she won't be a transformational president, but he makes it sound like she hasn't done anything in her entire career, which to me, is insulting. Especially for a "friend" to say that. She made a comment in one of her interviews that she wanted him to advise her on dealing with the economy, and I read that she got a lot crap for that comment. If she wins, I think he'll have some kind of role, but I bet they make every effort to keep it quiet. He got the same reaction when he decided to turn health care reform over to her in the 90s. They've always been a package deal. The funny thing is that Bill Clinton is the first president I ever voted for and a big part of his appeal to me was Hillary. I was happy to vote for him because I knew I'd also be getting her. I know a lot of people like to suggest Bill in the cabinet and Obama on the court. While both would be great, I think it would be in Hillary's interest to stay away from that. People are tired of family dynasties. We don't want to just keep handing power between the Clintons and Obamas. We need to deepen the bench a bit. At least until Chelsea and Malia decide to run in 2032.
  18. I don't think that Bill even has his law license anymore. Although getting it back would be easy enough. I have a friend pretty involved in the campaign and he suggested that once Hillary's elected we won't be seeing much of Bill because he's gotten to the point where he's ready to become Jimmy Carter. The guy who just works his charities and plays with his grandbabies. I didn't buy that at first but the more I see him, it makes sense. I think he's tired and that's the reason for the gaffes.
  19. If that's how he talks about a friend he respects, I'd hate to see what he says about someone he doesn't like. Any bimbos being dicked by Bill are most likely well-paid escorts. I don't mind. In fact I hope that Hillary has a similar stable of options available to her. She deserves the stress relief.
  20. I think that moderating is an impossible job when you're dealing with people like Trump and Pence who lie without reservation. To have to fact check someone like these two would mean that for every answer they give you'd have to spend several minutes explaining why it's false which means we'd hear more from the moderator than the candidates. For all the shade Lester holt got, I think he did a pretty good job. He tried to fact check Donald on stop and frisk and Trump just kept repeating his lies about how murders are up. At this point the conflict is between facts and letting the candidate speak. That was something I thought Hillary did well. She didn't ask Holt to fact check but she did invite fact checkers to weigh in after. Unless moderators are given the ability to cut microphones there's no way to moderate a debate with a pathological liar.
  21. Apologies. I'm frustrated with the lack of seriousness in this election and in the commentary I'm reading this morning. I didn't mean to take it out on you.
  22. In other VP news Libertarians Bill Weld seems to have come to his senses. As for the debate, I haven't seen it yet but I really wish people would stop complaining that something that actually addresses issues is "boring." Politics is not a reality show and thinking of it as such is part of the reason we're in this insane position.
  23. What's going on is that a lot of the press is remembering what made them want to be journalists to begin with. Also, Trump humiliated them with his birther conference and that was the last straw. Do you think LeBron's endorsement is going to have any impact on Ohio? And why does Trump have the support of so many union workers particularly since all of this stuff is made outside of the US and now this steel story. I doubt LeBron is going to change any minds but I think his endorsement will help with turnout. He's evolved into a quite a civic leader and philanthropist. In fact there's some discussion in political circles that he may be eyeing a run for office himself one day. The union thing is a little weird. The unions have endorsed Hillary but so many of the members are buying into Trump's promise to bring manufacturing back but this news might change that.

  25. Newsweek drops how Trump used Chinese steel for his construction projects. That might be enough to bring Ohio back to its senses. A lot of his support comes from union members. (Don't ask. It makes no sense.)
