  1. The problem is that there simply aren't any decent Republicans anymore. Sure you've got John McCain and Lindsay Graham at least trying to be sane but any member of the GOP who might be willing to stand up has been neutered or drummed out of the party entirely. Plus with the Russian hacking don't think for one second that a lot of these people aren't being blackmailed into silence. I think our only real hope is some kind of massive backlash in 2018 and given the rampant stupidity and learned helplessness from people on both sides I'm not hopeful that can happen.
  2. As politically active as I clearly am, one subject I stay completely away from is Israel/Palestine. I've never seen a conversation about that subject that didn't dissolve completely.
  3. Keep in mind that there's a significant number of conservatives who blame Obama for the response to Hurricane Katrina. These are people who will believe anything they are told no matter how ridiculous. We saw it when Donald claimed that he saw Muslims celebrating in New Jersey when the towers fell. His followers swore they saw it too. The Jedi Mind Trick is real with these folks.
  4. What's amazing is that 9/11 happened because Bush ignored a briefing that said "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US" but now we've put this cretin in office who doesn't even attend briefings. I predict will have another 9/11 or Oklahoma City in the next four years.
  5. All America is doing is given vulnerable subset of people an excuse to radicalize. Anybody who thinks we'll be safer under the Snatchgrabber is fooling themselves (again). After 9/11 Bush reached out to the Muslim community and that was the right thing to do. But again, we live in a country full of stupid, mean people who think that just because they "feel" something it must be true.
  6. Yeah, that's why I'm not here for these "change" voters. Most of them can't even begin to articulate what change they want. They simply assume that it will benefit them.
  7. The problem is that these lefty populists can't be counted on. We saw how quickly they gave in to misogyny and racism when they didn't get what they wanted. They are very much like the Tea Party. Unreasoning, uncompromising and vicious. How easily did they pick up right wing talking points and run with them? Including Mr. Reich himself.
  8. I'm continually amazed at how often Americans want to keep sending our volunteer military to war.
  9. I will hate Bernie Sanders and his ignorant radicals for the rest of my life. My mother grew up in the Jim Crow south and people like them decided to send her back to that because they didn't get their woobie for Christmas.
  10. Exactly. That's the kind of hype we need less of.
  11. I think a better question is: why would they?
  12. Khan, one day you and I are going to throw down about Obama the way Vee and I used to fight about Evangeline Williamson.
  13. Yeah, the only pleasure to be had for the next few years is going to be saying "I told you so."
  14. It's not startling at all. Bernie's supporters oozed bitterness and misogyny.
  15. They have a right to exist. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be opposed and shunned at every opportunity.
  16. Joe Biden says he's going to run in 2020.
  17. They're just trolling. They'd have celebrated Tim Ryan too.
  18. Moonves said it all. Trump may be bad for the country but he's good for CBS. That's why I refuse to watch.
  19. A little something to help us cope. There's a Tumblr keeping track of Trumpers who are realizing they got had. Trumpgrets
  20. My understanding is that concession is a courtesy nothing more. It's a tradition that honors our peaceful transition of power. It's not like if she'd refused to concede Donald couldn't be president. All of Trump's cabinet picks would be scrapped because he would no longer be president-elect. As much as I want Trump out of office I shudder at what would happen to and with Hillary if she took office under those circumstances. She's given so much and for her to have to deal with that level of vitriol would pretty much mean she could never leave the White House.
  21. I haven't been on board with the electoral college choosing Hillary because I thought it would lead to chaos but more and more I realize that we're going to get chaos with this guy in the White House. At least with Hillary most of the chaos would be domestic, not international.
  22. I guess that Ralph Nader can finally breathe a sigh of relief at the knowledge that he will no longer history's worst election spoiler. That honor is now shared by Bernie and Jill.
  23. I didn't claim she was young, just fresh. Regardless of her age she's brought something vital to the party and she appeals to young voters. She could easily become the successor to Ted Kennedy.
  24. I consider Warren to be fresh blood. This is only her first term and she's done a good job energizing the left wing of the party. As for Bernie, he's not a Democrat so he doesn't count. I think the Dems have a deeper bench than most give us credit for: Booker, Gillibrand, Ellison, Duckworth, Tim Ryan, etc... plus the newly elected Harris, Hassan etc... Personally I think that the real challenge is to get back to the 50 state strategy and focus more on local governments and statehouses. Those are the pipelines where we can develop new talent. (See: Wendy Davis (TX), Allison Lundergan-Grimes (KY))
  25. I'm not impressed. He's one of the few people in this country who is in a position to do something that could stop this man but instead he just decides to stand to the side and pretend he's doing something moral. It's like he's looking at a house on fire and instead of using the fire extinguisher in his hand, he just decides to walk out the door.
