Lol. DaytimeFan and I be saying that about Bravo all the time.

I saw that rumor about Eric. I shiver to think. Especially with that one new cast member.

We most certainly do say this all the time. Bravo = ABC Daytime under Frons. They're recycling talent, both in front and behind the camera, and floundering with production.

It’s been this burden around her neck for like a decade now. I truly hope she gets something for it.

Sonja always wanted to avoid declaring bankruptcy but I’ve long wondered whether bankruptcy wouldn’t have been the better decision given how hard and long she’s worked to maintain assets that she has not been able to sell.

No doubt a financial decision -- and another reason why Sonja needs a job on the nuRHONY!

I sincerely hope it sells and that she makes at least some money off of it so that she can have a fresh start.

That townhouse is a true burden on Sonja and she needs to be free from it. It is too much house for her, too much maintenance, and there are too many memories attached to it.

Did Angela's 'face refresh' coincide with the NY move?

No, Angela had refreshed herself several times before Jessica got her NY apartment.

To tell you the truth, @Paul Raven, it's so subtle that it's almost hard to tell when she had her, um, face refreshed, lol?  Whoever she paid to do the job was a true artist.

Angela had her facelift a lot earlier than people think. She had her first facelift when she debuted as Mame on Broadway in 1966. She had her lower eyes done a few years later to rid herself of under eye bags.

She then had her neck and chin tightened up in the late 1970s before having another neck tuneup in 1986. Angela had another facelift in the early 90s.

She was really something of a pioneer in very good, conservative work.

I think it also helps when you take care of yourself, have a good diet, and exercise regularly. Angela took great pride in maintaining her overall health - so any cosmetic enfacements probably looked more complementary vs. most people.

Yes, indeed. When she lost 20 lbs it inspired her to launch Positive Moves...

Angela really took herself as a potential role model for women, especially older women, very seriously.

Angela Lansbury was 59 in 1984 and 71 in 1996.

I would guess by the time of Murder, She Wrote, she must have cut down/quit smoking and was more vigilant about sun protection.

Whatever work she had done during Murder, She Wrote was not blatantly obvious and in your face.

Angela was mostly preoccupied with her jawline and any perceived jowls. It's somewhat hard to screw up a lower face lift except if the pull is too tight around the mouth. Angela left her lines alone, so she never strove to look 'young' she strove to look 'good' and she looked great as a result.

    Thanks for posting that, @DaytimeFan!

I could be wrong, of course, but I suspect Lansbury butted heads more with Moessinger than she did with Peter S. Fischer.  Say what you will about the first seven seasons of MSW - especially in the last two seasons when, to quote Fischer, Cabot Cove was getting too cute for its' own good - but they did retain a "literary quality" that Moessinger's lone year as showrunner lacked (J. Michael Straczynski's scripts notwithstanding).  Which isn't to say that S8 was a terrible year!  Moessinger and his team certainly broadened Jessica's world and put the show back in the Top 10.  But whenever I watch reruns from that particular season, I often feel like I'm watching a Dean Hargrove-produced series (like "Matlock" or "Diagnosis: Murder") rather than classic MSW.

You are not wrong. Peter S. Fischer and Angela Lansbury enjoyed a very productive working relationship and when he left she understood that he was simply burned out and felt like he'd run out of ideas, something she herself experienced twice before he left.

On the other hand, I get the distinct impression that Lansbury did not align with David Moessinger and disliked the writing for the season he was showrunner.

There isn't any bad season of MSW but for the 'bookend' episodes that I think are all trash.

Do you think  the move to NY and the criminology professorship was a mandate made to give the show a more (perceived) urban.youthful appeal?

Lansbury said in her Archive of American Television interview that Jessica having an apartment in Manhattan was her idea and that she wanted Jessica to be more sophisticated - you'll notice that her wardrobe gets an upgrade when she moves to Manhattan and Jessica starts the pantsuit era that she sticks with through the end of the series.

    Start at the 25:00 mark:

David Moessinger did not last very long and when he was out after 1992, Lansbury took full control of the show through her Corymore Productions banner.

  7. While the ouster of Steve Kent is likely a good thing, I am not convinced that Sony and a private equity firm purchasing Paramount Global (and therefore CBS itself) is a positive. It would, however, make Y&R an 'in house' production for CBS.

Private Equity is good at one thing: maximizing profits and then breaking assets apart to sell for a great return.

The consolidation of Hollywood studios has been going on for some time now and it will be interesting to see how it all ends up.

I wonder if CBS will give the show a multi-year contract from the get go, along with the multi-year contracts with the cast. If they go only for one year, they could have a bunch of the cast leaving after year 1, requiring them to recast if the renew past year 1.

It's very common practice for network contracts in primetime to be for 5 years and in daytime for them to be for 4 years. Renegotiations still happen, but most actors are on long term contracts at the outset. In daytime, the 13 week pickup cycle is what gives the network the ability to terminate the actor with relative ease.

The shorter term contracts are more common once a primetime show is established, or for a daytime show, when the actor has been in the role for a longer period of time and wants flexibility.

CBS will be owning The Gates, so the show itself is unlikely to have any contract itself, much like GH

Has Janice Ferri Esser's last Y&R episode aired? She updated her linked in to show her tenure at the show ended March 2024.

I don't know the answer, but I did want to put the idea out in the universe that Janice will join the writing staff of The Gates when/if it launches...she's been writing such quality scripts for over 30 years, CBS has to recognize what they have. If not shame on them.

If I was EP of Y&R I'd have had Janice do a walk on role where she'd interact with Victor and he'd say "Now don't you put words in my mouth, you got that?!" as a wink to the audience for her last show.

  10. RHOP

#boycottRHOP is currently trending on Twitter/X

Good riddance to this season. It was truly a flop aside from the last 15 minutes of the finale, and the first 10 minutes of part 3 of the reunion...all of which concerned Mia and Gordon.

Gordon's admission about bipolar disorder was brave and also make a lot of sense about what's happened to his life. How Mia handled it speaks to a character I haven't seen before...she's now less morally bankrupt and more morally a credit risk.

Karen looks amazing and her facelift is incredible.

Give Kiarna a flute of champagne. I am glad she said what she did about Ashley, she is the queen of the aftermath apology but has no problem instigating anything.

They should fire Nneka and Wendy. They're both flops. Wendy has no storyline given her serial ventures while Nneka sat through this reunion like an audience member at an air show. It blew me away that Ashley got away with all the "Osu" crap that she started between them.

Speaking of Ashley, she's evil, and I hope Michael doesn't bend in their divorce. She is so nasty and the way she tries to deflect responsibility is sickening. I kept hoping someone would snatch that Raquel Welch Collection wig off her head.

Speaking of sickening, Gizelle's attitude about what Deborah did was so gross.

It's clear that Candiace could never, ever, bridge the gap with Gizelle and I wager her exit was something agreed to with production. The problem is production chose the wrong HW. They should have fired Gizelle with her manufactured 'romance' with Summer House's Jason and the Lululemon ripoff, GnA. Ashley, Juan's Roommate, and Gizelle were trying to justify violence against Candiace however they could.

I will miss Candiace's quick wit.

I'm relieved that production decided to stop trying to make Charisse happen and they didn't bring her on in whatever ensemble she was able to scare up from Dress Barn.

Andy being crowned Duke of Potomac...if ever there was someone who has no business running a reunion ever again, it's him.

  11. Very pleased for Shemar. He has had an incredibly productive relationship with CBS for 30 years. He is like a golden age Hollywood star whose whole career is tied to a single studio.

I mentioned this a good while ago, but I fully expect to see Shemar be a part of the launch of The Gates, whether it's a crossover with Y&R or through S.W.A.T. - he is a company man who never forgets where he came from.

It didn't help that those were the seasons with the "bookend episodes."  The following year, after that practice had been suspended, the ratings rebounded.

I’ve been watching MSW again as it’s airing in reruns in Canada and those bookend episodes were very hard to get through. I skipped at least half of them. And there were far more than I remembered there being on first watch.

It seems little is known about how those bookend episodes came to be. CBS and Angela didn’t get into a contract dispute so they must have been part of a contract extension when her initial one finished in the 1988/89 season.

Very classy way to exit a longtime gig.

She's jumping off a sinking ship and on to something much better.

That's one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it is she's leaving a place she valued and doesn't want to burn a bridge. Despite it's creative malaise, B&B is still a success. George Cheeks' own words confirm that.

  14. 2 minutes ago, Antoyne said:

Agreed with this. There was no way we were getting another season where half the cast is openly ignoring the other half.

Absolutely - I really hated that Gizelle still refuses to admit what she was implying about Candiace's husband. I don't blame Candiace for holding this particular grudge, but it sealed her fate on the show.

Also: Karen's deep plane facelift looks amazing. Excellent work by whoever did it.

  15. The elegant, gracious, and beautiful actress Barbara Rush, who notably appeared the television adaptations of Peyton Place and Flamingo Road, has died at the age of 97. She was one of the old school classic Hollywood actresses who enjoyed their most notable exposure in the burgeoning medium of television.

She enjoyed a varied career, appearing in game shows, many guest shots in memorable television series, won a Golden Globe, married and divorced the public relations tycoon Warren Cowan (the Cowan in Rogers & Cowan) and and remained active and well into her 90s.

    spacer.png

Fun bit of trivia: she lived in a beautiful home on Tropical Avenue in Beverly Hills and ended up next door neighbours with Justin Bieber.

  16. RHOP

When Andy talked about setting an intention that the ladies make amends at this reunion was really a coded message: make amends or we're firing you.

It's clear from this episode that Candiace and Gizelle are at an unforgivable impasse and clearly one of them had to go.

The same can be said for Robyn who still doesn't get it

Ashley is a total bullshitter and I really want to see her get her comeuppance.

Re: RHONY, lord, don't give me hope, Lu!

Luann's still got moves, wow. Also this song is literally THEE BEST.

Lu can move. That was fabulous.

I would love for Lu and Sonja to appear in nuRHONY as Friends Of a la Marysol of Miami...the older women who have sage wisdom/drama.
