  1. Here is the monthly recap from February 1973. It can help filling some gaps for Audrey or Mary's storylines.

Howie Dawson took Brooke Clinton to diner for her birthday and bought her a four leaf clover charm. He bought an identical charm for his wife, Jane but told her he was working late. Brooke arrived home late for her date with Howie’s boss Burt Marshall and angry and jealous, he demanded to know who she was with. He hit her and she fell, hitting her head on a table. Realizing she was dead, Marshall wiped her fingerprints from the room and sneaked out. Detective Fred Martin learned Howie and Brooke dated during Howie’s separation from Jane and questioned him. Howie maintained he worked late that night. Marshall told Martin he worked late that night too, dated Brooke only occasionally and tried hard to throw suspicions on Howie. Martin learned Howie bought two charms - one was found on Brooke - and took her to dinner earlier on the night of her death. The police realized Marshall seemed to hate Howie intensely.

Teddy Holmes tried to convince Jessie Brewer to marry despite her being older that he was. Carol, Jessie’s niece, who had a crush on Teddy, ridiculed Jessie’s involvement. Steve Hardy and Phil Brewer, her ex-husband, tried to make her see Teddy was a sponger who was only interested in her money. She defended him and considered his proposal.

When Diana Taylor learned she was nine to ten weeks pregnant, she was horrified as she and her husband, Peter only began to try for conception four weeks ago. She was sure this child was Phil’s due to his forcing himself on her. Her doctor, assuming this child was Peter’s, told her there was no problem of the rare blood disease her first child had at birth. Diana told Phil never to visit her home again.

Duncan Stewart continued to encourage Audrey Baldwin into a relationship and asked her to go away for the weekend with him. She maintained her only interest is the safe return of her son Tommy. Steve Hardy blamed himself for encouraging her to marry Tom Baldwin in the first place. In Mexico, Tom, very ill, died. Tommy’s baby nurse told him she’d never give him up.

Wade Collins, infuriated that his wife Mary wouldn’t come back to him as his wife, threatened to sue Lee Baldwin for alienation of affection as Wade’s father’s will left him a million dollars only if he and Mary were together. He nastily implied that Lee and Mary had an affair while she cared for his ill son during Meg’s – Lee’s wife - hospitalization. Knowing Meg’s illness was emotional, Wade threatened to take his nasty theories to Meg herself. Mary and Lee feared for Meg but Mary could not bring herself to return to Wade and Lee agreed she didn’t have to.

@FrenchFanI will need you for February.  I have limited summaries for February into early-March.

The information I have is from character sequences for Jessie and Jane.  The Brooke Murder, Mary/Lee/Meg/Wade story, the Audrey/Tommy story, and Peter/Diana/Phil story will have some gaps.

I will try to piece together the information I have to match airdates.  Would you be willing to DM me February's summary?

    Sure ! :)

  3. To go with @depboy January 1973, what Bryna Laub wrote about the show for this month.

Howie Dawson’s boss, Burt Marshall, resented Howie’s friendship with Brooke Clinton and treated him unfairly at work. Howie’s wife, Jane told him she would understand it if he quit, but he told her he couldn’t quit until he had another job.

Jessie Brewer’s divorce from her husband Phil was granted and Teddy Holmes told her he wanted to marry her. He argued that the difference in their ages was meaningless and asked for time to convince her. She wanted to believe him. Jessie’s niece, Carol Murray was jealous of Teddy’s attention to Jessie and again planned to run away.

Diana Taylor, still upset, confided in Jane Dawson that Phil Brewer forced himself on her. Diana’s husband, Peter accidentally discovered her diary and learned of her having Hodgekin’s Disease. He took her to Dr. Steve Hardy immediately and another biopsy was done which proved the previous tests were incorrect, she didn’t have the disease. Phil visited her constantly, insisting he loved her, needed her and would do anything to get her and their son, Tracy. He refused to accept the fact that she and Peter were happily married.

Meg Baldwin was fighting her feelings of jealousy and suspicion of her husband Lee and Nurse Mary Briggs. Meg agreed to take her son Scotty to visit his grandparents in Arizona after Lee reaffirmed his love for her. Lee and Mary tried to avoid seeing each other. He felt guilty at contributing to Meg’s jealousy. Mary’s father-in-law died and left his estate - about two million dollars - to Mary and her husband, Wade, only if they were married and living together. If their marriage broke up, the money would go to charity. Mary told Lee she couldn’t go back to Wade even for a fortune, she just didn’t love him.

Steve Hardy asked Audrey March Baldwin to marry him. She refused, saying that if she divorced Tom, he’d never let her see her child again. She was dating Dr. Duncan Stewart and told him all about her past. He told her they had the basis of a good relationship as neither of them wanted to get married. She told him she was not interested in a relationship only in getting her child back. He said he’d keep trying. Lee finally heard from Tom that Audrey’s son, Tommy was fine. Unfortunately, the letter was untraceable.

Sharon Pinkham was pregnant. Her husband, Henry was pleased but concerned with overpopulation.

@FrenchFanThis is what was stated in Variety.

Agnes continued writing TGL when she took over AW. John Boruff was now assisting at TGL as of Jan 66

Ted and Mathilde Ferro began May 67

Irna returned as headwriter Feb 68

Are the Averys,Funt/Lesan mentioned in scripts you've seen?

I see their names in Soap World but maybe they were just scriptwriters under Irna. She was headwriter of ATWT at that time so maybe just doing long term story.

Also GL went to half an hour in 68 so extra writers might have been brought in.

Thanks ! Agnes Nixon’s last GL scripts in her collection is November 1966 (John Boruff joined her in early 1966 as you said). So I don’t know who wrote the 1st part of 1967 before the Ferros took over in May. I haven’t located scripts from that era yet to solve the mystery ;)

  5. I don't know if someone will be able to answer but I'm trying to find more about GL late 1960s' history. After checking the script archives from many writers, I think Agnes Nixon stopped being HW on November 25, 1966 and Irna Phillips came back with John Boruff on December 15, 1967.

So 1967 is quite confused. Many writers are credited: the Averys, Funt & Lesan, the Ferros...

I only found a newspaper article crediting Theodore and Mathilde Ferro as HW in August 1967. Would someone have some more precise info for the writing of that year?

    Thanks :)

  6. I think the HW list must be something like this then for the show:

    Irna Phillips (September 18th 1967 – October 22nd 1967)

    Ira & Jane Avery (October 23rd 1967 – May 1968)

    Don Ettlinger (May 1968 – 1969)

    James Lipton (1969 – March 1970)

    Ann Marcus (March 1970 – March 23rd 1973)

    #56 – Tuesday, December 5th 1967

Mia entered Jim’s office. They talked about Mark being under sedative. Mia also asked Jim if she could miss the class that day because Paul inisted on seeing her. She wanted to tell him goodbye.

Phil visited Tom and they talked about the accident. Tom was very angry at his sister for causing the accident. Phil said he was not surprised something like this happened to Mark – the nights out, the drinking since he was back from Vietnam. He tried to tell Tom that the accident would cause Mark and Iris to think about their lives. Tom said he was going to the motel Terry Andrews was last seen alive on July 27th, 1966. He hoped the owner of the motel would remember something.

At the Forty-Niner motel office, Tom questioned Crump, the owner. He had him go through his register for list for July 1966 to see if he remembered anything. Tom mentioned the July 27th night was a thunder night but Crump couldn’t remember much.

At the Upper Deck, Paul and Mia had finished their lunch. Paul told Mia he would be leaving San Francisco permanently. He was hoping Mia could have made him change his mind about the transfer but he noticed during lunch she was not that interested. Mia felt sorry. She had alway been honest with him when she said she couldn’t fall in love. Paul added he knew there was another man in her mind. Mia asked Paul to make up with his family as he had a fight with them because of her. He agreed and they shared goodbyes.

Mia was at Jim’s. He had found her dazed in the hospital and brought him back to his place for a tea. She told him how Paul gently stepped away and told her goodbye. Jim and Mia played the piano and seemed very close.

    #62 – Wednesday, December 13th 1967

Phil and Helen were having breakfast when the phone rang. It was Mark. He assured his father he was fine but he needed to see him as soon as possible for a favor. Helen insisted she could come with Phil.

At the hospital, Helen was staying outside. Mark told Phil that Tom visited him about the Terry Andrews case and Tom had to admit to his father that Terry was pregnant with his child. Phil was shocked. Mark explained it was just an affair before he left for Vietnam. He offered to marry Terry but she refused. Terry was in love in another man and maybe she hoped she could marry him. He swore he didn’t know she was dead until her body was found. Phil said Helen had to be told as Mark could face trouble.

In Iris’ office, Iris and Jock were going through some press releases but Jock didn’t seem interested. He admitted he wanted her to work on the fund-raising project to spend time with her. He insisted Iris come to his house to show his mother the project and meet her.

Back at the Elliots’, Helen was still shocked after Mark told her about Terry. She was thrilled he was definitely through with Iris though but worried about what people would say when the news would come that a woman, pregnant with her son’s child, was murdered.

Jock introduced Iris to his mother. Alex was delighted. Iris didn’t want to stay long and was afraid Jock would offer her too much to drink while she had to go back to work. After Iris left, Alex advised her son to be careful. What if Iris was collecting information for her brother ? Jock liked drinking and talking too much.

    #63 – Thursday, December 14th 1967

Jim congratulated Mia on her good work. He thought she might be ready for some clinical work. Phone rang – an old friend of Jim’s from his student days wanted to see him. Mia admitted she had heard some hospital gossip about the time he was living at the Porters’.

In Jim’s office, Gil Snyder briefed Jim about what his life was since their student years. He had married Dru, a woman he met through the Porters. Gil told Jim he came because Lt. Donnelly had wanted to see him about the late John Porter. He said Tom asked him about his time staying at the Porters’ in exchange for some work. Gil wondered why he was questioned about Jim and John Porter died of a heart attack so he didn’t know why there was an investigation.

Jim joined Mia in the cafeteria. She noticed the visit from this « friend » of the past was not so good and Jim admitted his past might not be perfect. Mia said she worried about her aunt Helen who did seem unwell. Jim offered to drive her to the Elliots’. It would clear his head.

Helen was surprised to see Jim and Mia at her place. She assured Mia she was not that bad. After Jim left, Helen questioned Mia about her relationship with Jim. She admitted there might be some feeling but she didn’t know to what extend. Mia told Helen that Paul Bradley had left San Francisco. When Mia questioned Helen about how she felt, Helen told her she would know soon enough.

Gil Snyder visited Alex Porter. He told her Lt. Donnelly questioned him about her late husband and his friendship with Jim Abbott. Alex told Gil her husband had an affair with a young woman who had been found dead. Jock arrived. As Alex was about to mention Jim’s liberal ideas about abortion, Jock stopped her mother. She then offered Gil to stay in town for the night.

    #66 – Wednesday, December 20th 1967

Iris arrived at work and her boss, Mr. Armstrong, was not happy that she was late. He decided she was fired and he should have done it sooner when her name was dragged in the newspaper after her car crash. Iris told Mr. Armstrong he would lose the museum contract with Jock Porter but he was ready to take the risk.

At her apartment, Iris got a visit from Jock who knew she had been fired. He thought she should go into business for herself. He said he would pay her bills and she would work for him from her apartment.

At the hospital, Laura was in Mark’s room. He told her she shouldn’t be there as her father got her transferred to another floor. Laura answered she knew her father wanted her away from Mark because of Iris, the accident or the fact he got Terry Andrews pregnant, but she considered him a very good friend. Mark was surprised Tom told Laura and she still wanted to be his friend. He explained Laura he offered Terry marriage two weeks before she disappeared but she answered she had someone else in her life. Mark also said he would probably lose his job as he couldn’t deliver sketches for an important project. Laura offered to be the messenger. Mark was impressed.

At the Porters’, Jock told Alex he had hired Iris because she was a goldmine for information, not only because she was Tom’s sister but she also told him that Mark Elliot had an affair with Terry Andrews. Alex realized Terry’s baby might have been Mark’s and not John’s. Maybe Terry convinced John he was the father of her child and that’s why John would have paid Jim Abbott a $1.000 contribution in exchange of Terry’s abortion. Alex wanted to call the police to put Jim Abbott behind bars but Jock stopped her. He asked her to let him manage things.

    #67 – Thursday, December 21st 1967

Iris was at Tom’s early in the morning. She wanted to know what would happen of Mark since he wormed it out of her that he got Terry pregnant. Tom didn’t understand why Iris was still interested in Mark since it was over between them. When Iris snapped about Laura, Tom said she had been transferred to another floor. Neither Will nor Tom wanted her near Mark. Iris told Tom she lost her job and she was working for the Porters. He didn’t like that. Will arrived and overhead about Iris losing her job. She excused herself and left. Will asked Tom not to be too hard on Iris. Ricky arrived for breakfast and Tom promised he would spend some time teaching Ricky chess on Christmas Day.

Will visited Iris and assured he was not there for a lecture. He was worried to notice she had lots of alcohol in her place. He suggested she could see a psychiatrist. Iris was offended. She said her problems came because she lost her job. She lost her job because she of the car crash. She had the car crash because she was losing Mark and she lost Mark because Laura left the convent. Will assured she should stop blaming Laura and he suggested she see Jim Abbott even though he was not a psychiatrist. Iris said he hated her. When Will insisted, Iris agreed she would see him once.

Will then visited Jim in his apartment. He told her he was worried about Iris and particularly since she began seeing Jock Porter. Jim could rely. Will added she was drinking and he would like Jim to see Iris. Jim was unsure but he understood how worried Will was and he finally accepted.

Meanwhile, at her place, Iris was drinking whisky.

  7. I wonder if Irna Phillips was out of the show way sooner than what we thought. In her script archives, there are only scripts from episodes 1 to 25.

The episodes I got, starting with 31 are labelled with the Averys. If this is true, it would mean Phillips was HW until October 22nd 1967.

    What do you others think?

  8. #41 – Wednesday, November 13th 1967

Paul visited Mark in his architect office. Mark was not happy with his work, creating cheap building. Paul had a day off flying and was looking for Mia. Paul was no longer living with his parents since they reacted in a racist way about Paul seeing Mia but Paul felt like Mia was avoiding him. Paul added he knew Mia had gone to the opera with Dr. Jim Abbott. He could understand that as he was out of town a lot of time.

Jim entered Will’s office and was not happy to find him working. They talked about Laura who would like to find a job. Jim offered to talk to Laura and give her advice.

Will had moved into Tom’s house. Ricky was in his grandfather’s room. He told him that kids were asking questions about Laura at school. He hit a guy who said Laura was fired from the convent. Will tried to explain Ricky that Laura didn’t do anything wrong.

At Iris’, Mark and Iris came back from the movies. Iris was in a bad mood since she learned that Mark made Terry Andrews pregnant. Mark said it happened long before he started dating Iris. Iris was hurt and Mark admitted she might deserve someone better than he was. He also assured Iris he didn’t want any other girl at the moment and Iris said she only wanted to hear that. She wanted Mark to say he loved her but he asked for no pushing.

    #42 – Thursday, November 14th 1967

Laura and Iris were having coffee in the Donnellys’ living room. Iris tried to convince her sister she should wear some better clothes and some make up. If not, she would scare men away but Laura would like Iris to realize they were different women and there would be no man in Laura’s life for the moment. Iris said she was hoping to marry Mark soon even if his mother didn’t like her. The doorbell rang. It was Helen who was visiting Laura and Iris left.

Helen wanted to help Laura with her wardrobe too and her ideas were least outrageous than Iris’. She told Laura she always felt a soft spot for her especially as her own daughter died. Helen noticed she would probably never get along with Iris. Mia arrived to visit Laura and Helen went back home. Mia and Laura had a talk about their lives. Mia assured Laura that wanting to be a doctor didn’t keep her from wanting to be a woman too.

After dinner, Laura brought coffee to Tom in his den. He was trying to reach Mrs. Porter. Laura said she would attend a baseball game with Will and Ricky. Tom was happy she was going out and he decided to go to the Porters’.

Tom arrived at the Porters’. Jock Porter was having a party. Tom asked to see Mrs. Alex Porter on a police business but Jock was jocking about it. Tom wanted Mrs. Porter to check the list of students she and her husband once had under their roof. Maybe some connection could help Tom find out about Terry as Mr. Porter was looking for her too. Mrs. Porter reluctantly gave Tom her husband’s notebook and Jock introduced himself to Tom as John and Alex Porter’s son.

After Tom left, Alex and Jock Porter talked about Terry Andrews’ disappearance. They clearly weren’t sad John Porter was dead while looking for the girl. Alex didn’t like being a fool as her late husband was pining for younger girls. Alex decided she had to talk to Dr. Abbott and Jock wondered if it was necessary.

    #52 – Wednesday, November 29th 1967

In the Elliots’ kitchen, Mark and Phil were having breakfast. Phil had come home late the previous night as he was working with Tom on the Terry Andrews’ case. Phil asked Mark if he was sure he told him everything he knew about Terry but Mark assured he did.

In Will’s office at the hospital, Jim asked Will if he could talk to him as a friend. Will thought it was about Mia. Jim admitted he didn’t see her only as a student but he was so used to burying himself into work. Will noticed something else was bothering Jim but Jim couldn’t say more.

Will had joined Tom in his den. Tom said police had traced the blanket in which Terry’s body was wrapped in. It came from a motel near the airport. Angelo from the police then called Tom. He had found out that John Porter had donated $10.000 to Jim Abbott’s fertility center. Tom wondered why Jim didn’t mention it.

Mark and Mia were having a drink in a restaurant. Mia told her cousin that Laura was a great help at the hospital. She was really becoming a good nurse’s aid. Mia noticed Mark was very fond of Laura. She asked him if he loved Iris. He answered he liked her and admitted he and Iris were both noticing it was not really love. Mia asked about his feelings for Laura but Mark said it didn’t matter because he would fool himself. Mark said he wanted to talk about Paul who visited him a week ago about Mia. Mia admitted she liked Paul as a friend but could never be in love with him. Mark asked about Jim but Mia said she would go back to Hong Kong after her training so it would be a bad idea.

Will visited Iris at her apartment. He told her he saw on the newspaper that she was socializing with Jock Porter. He also asked Iris if she could make up with Laura because they had a fight recently. Iris agreed.

    #54 – Friday, December 1st 1967

In her apartement, Iris was cleaning when Mark arrived. He was unhappy that Iris snapped at Laura. Iris was angry that Laura told Mark about it. After Mark left, Iris took a drink.

Tom was at Mrs. Porter’s. She said she had no idea what her late husband was doing in Chicago and she didn’t know about his possible relationship with Terry Andrews. Tom questioned her about the $10.000 her husband donated to Jim Abbott’s fertility center in July 1966. Alex was clever enough to lead Tom away as she feigned ignorance about her husband’s doings. Jock arrived. Alex asked Jock if he knew anything about the donation but Jock laughed he didn’t. As Tom left, Jock asked him to give Iris his best. Alex wondered what the police might know exactly. Jock decided he should see Iris.

Iris told Alex she didn’t want to go out. He offered to see each other the following day. Tom arrived at his sister’s. He noticed she was drunk and Iris admitted she was afraid she was losing Mark. Tom told Iris she also shouldn’t stay away from Jock Porter. She said she rebuffed his date offer for the night. Iris then left to find Mark.

Mark and Iris were in her car. They were having a fight when Mark noticed she had a few drinks and she was driving too fast. Iris was fed up with everybody lecturing her. Mark said she was an hysterical mess. She then crashed the car.

    #55 – Monday, December 4th 1967

At the hospital, Dr. Fairbanks was tending Mark after his car crash. His arm was particuarly injured. Mark asked for Iris and a nurse said she wasn’t physically hurt but Dr. Fairbanks said she was at the police station.

In the hospital lobby, Helen was worried sick. She blamed Iris who was driving the car. Phil tried to calm her down as Mark was drunk too apparently. Dr. Fairbanks joined and told them Mark’s arm was fractured but he was lucky to be alive. Laura arrived and Helen told her Mark would be alright.

Iris was at a night court with Tom. The judge put a $5.000 bail as Iris was charged with drunken and reckless driving. Tom agreed to pay.

Laura went into Mark’s room. He was still confused because of the sedatives he was given. Laura explained Tom was phoned at home because of the accident and that’s why she came to see how Mark was doing. Laura assured Mark his parents were there and Helen was relieved since she had seen him. Mark began hallucinating and thought he was still in Vietnam. Laura calmed him down. She assured she would visit him often. After she left his room, Mark wondered if it was fate.

Iris arrived back at her place where Jock was waiting for her. He said he heard from the car crash from the radio at the club. Iris said she wanted to be alone. Jock mellowed. He said he could probably help her with her boss which could fire her because of her driving under influence. He planned for her some drink with an egg to calm her hangover.

  9. Oh no, your daily synopis are way more detailled than the monthly recap in the newsletter. Don't hesitate keeping up ! especially as 1973 and 1974 are not complete years in what I shared. I don't have all the issues. I would love you to continue. I repost the monthly recap as a complement.

  10. Thanks a lot ! I share the monthly recap for December 1972 made by Byrna Laub in her "Daytime Serial Newsletter". Dec. 72 was the 1st edition.

Tom Baldwin took his son Tommy and disappeared. Under assumed name David Smith, he went to Mexico. A heartbroken Audrey Hardy turned to her work for solace, placing her affections in young heart patient, Tony. Cardiologist Dr. Duncan Stewart tried to console her. He told her his wife divorced him taking their child away from him. Steve Hardy became aware of Dr. Stewart’s interest in Audrey.

Teddy Holmes conned Nurse Jessie Brewer into loaning him $3.000 and he was palling on much more. He convinced her to plan a skiing vacation with him and her niece Carol and nephew Kent. Carol disapproved of Jessie’s closeness to Teddy so Jessie asked him to pay attention to Carol. He was pleased that he could flirt with Carol with Jessie’s approval. Steve Hardy was worried about Teddy’s influence in Jessie’s family.

Diana Taylor was still refusing treatment for her Hodgekin’s Disease as she didn’t want Peter to know about it yet. Phil Brewer visited to bring Tracy a Christmas present. Telling Diana how hopeless his life was since he became impotent, he realized he was not and forced her to submit to him. Diana was terrified as she couldn’t bring herself to tell Peter what Phil did to her and was afraid she could become pregnant from this rape. Meanwhile, Phil’s personality had changed and everyone wondered why he was suddenly so friendly.

Meg Baldwin, attempting to repress her jealousy of Nurse Mary Briggs, was trying at the same time to find a way to get Mary out of her family’s lives. She was overjoyed to learn Mary would be away at Christmas, visiting her sick father-in-law. Lee Baldwin, Meg’s husband, saw Mary before she left and reaffirmed his love for her. Meg was deeply upset to learn her son, Scotty gave identical Christmas gifts to her and to Mary.

  11. #36 – Wednesday, November 6th 1967

In Laura’s room, Will arrived. Laura asked her father if he rushed back when Tom told him she had left the convent. He assured he didn’t. Laura explained she couldn’t go through her vow rehearsal. She didn’t know how she would adjust to be back to normal life. Will told her she should buy some casual clothes. When Laura questioned Will about his convention, he was evasive.

Laura came downstairs. Iris was there and Laura hoped they could spend some time together but Iris had to go back to work after lunch. Laura wondered if Will might be disappointed in her choice. She also felt that Iris didn’t approve. Iris said she didn’t know what to think but she didn’t judge Laura. She just thought her sister would have trouble adjusting in normal world.

Tom came back for work and asked Laura how her day was. He encouraged her to embrace her new life. Will arrived and joined Tom in the kitchen. They talked about Laura. Will then told his son he wasn’t attending a convention but was in Baltimore to have surgery for a blood clot in his leg. Even if the surgery was successful, Will had to slow down but he was afraid of feeling useless. Tom offered Will to come at his place and help with Laura and Ricky. Will agreed but asked Tom not to tell Iris and Laura about his health issues. Only Jim Abbott knew.

Ricky was at the Elliot’s. He told Mark that Laura had called his mother to get some things she didn’t have time to shop. Ricky explained to Mark that Laura left the convent and that she would be staying with Tom and Ricky. After Ricky left, Mark flashbacked to when he and Laura said their goodbye the previous week.

    #37 – Thursday, November 7th 1967

The following morning in the Elliot’s kitchen, Helen served Mark breakfast. She heard him come back late the previous night. Mark said he had a date with Iris. Helen wondered if they talked about Laura but Mark was evasive. He finally admitted he had a fight with Iris who didn’t think her sister couldn’t adjust to be back in normal life.

Phil came back home. Helen told him Mark came home late the previous night. She hated the fact Mark dated Iris, whom she saw as a very selfish girl. Phil thought Helen should let Mark live his life. They talked about Tom’s investigation on Terry Andrews. He had found in the Porters’ safety deposit box a tax report which proved that the Porters took in students for free board and room in exchange fort part-time help. In these documents, Tom and Phil learned Jim Abbott once stayed at the Porters’.

At the hospital, Jim encouraged Will to go back home as he had to slow down and was expected at his son’s for dinner. Jim had asked Mia to go with him at the opera. Will was amused.

After the opera, Jim and Mia were drinking champagne. They exchanged about the love story they had seen. Jim said doctors shouldn’t forget about love and Mia reminded Jim they had to work early on the following day. Jim drove Mia back at the Elliots’. She thanked him for the night. Jim said he was not very good with people, maybe due to his life in an orphanage. Mia thought she had inherited an out-going personality from her mother. Jim smiled and said Mia good night.

  12. #31 – Tuesday, October 30th 1967

At the Donnellys’, Laura insisted to her brother Tom that she had to go back to the convent. Tom wished she would wait for their dad to come back but Laura felt conflicted : the more she stayed, the more her past life was haunting her. She wanted to remain Sister Cecelia. Tom convinced her to remain one more night.

In Dr. Jim Abbott’s office, Tom said he couldn’t understand why Laura insisted she go back to the convent so quickly. Tom felt his sister was running from something. Jim assured it could be difficult for her as she was about to say her vows and she was still young. Jim added that Tom had to let Laura know he would support her.

After dinner, Iris went to Tom’s den. Tom asked Iris to stay with Laura for the night as he had to work and thought she shouldn’t be alone. Iris was irritated to cut her date with Mark short.

At her apartment, Iris told Mark about Tom wanting her to spend the night with Laura. She didn’t understand why Tom worried about their sisters all of a sudden. Tom admitted he talk to Laura a previous day when she went to visit his mother but she didn’t tell him much. Iris insisted to know more but Tom avoided the subject with tender gestures and kisses.

Iris came home. She talked with Laura about her desire to leave for the convent soon. Laura got angry and said Iris couldn’t understand.

    #32 – Wednesday, October 31st 1967

At the Donnellys’, Laura wrote her convent address for Mia who wanted to write to her. She had drawn a madonna which Laura could give Mother Superior the day she said her vows. Laura said Tom was busy working on the Terry Andrews case but he would drive her back to the convent soon. They talked about Ricky celebrating Halloween and Mia didn’t know much about this tradition. Mia then left to meet Dr. Abbott.

At the hospital, Mia told Jim there were rumors she was his favorite student as he allowed her to do a visit alone. When Mia asked when Dr. Donnelly would be back from his conference, Jim admitted that Will was not a convention, he had an operation on his leg and didn’t want to let his family know.

In their bedroom, Phil and Helen Elliot talked about Terry’s death. Helen felt sorry for Mrs. Porter. Phil said Tom was looking for something to tie Jock Porter to Terry. Helen then went to see Mark, who had come home early that night. Mark told his mother that Iris had to go back to Tom’s to spend Laura’s last night with her. Helen emphasized Laura’s sense of duty compared to Iris’ lack of some. Helen went back to her room and Phil came to talk to Mark and apologize. He said that he thought it was Mark who was tracing Terry to Chicago but it was John Porter.

Later that night, Mia and Mark both couldn’t find sleep. Mark questioned Mia about Paul who seemed to be a serious suitor. Mia was more interested in her work and enjoyed spending time with Dr. Abbott.

Talk of Susan had me wondering when John Colenback took over as adult Dan. Soap Central says Jan 66 but I am doubtful on a lot of what is posted there.

There is a CBS press release photo of Colenback on line from Dec 66, which leads me to believe that's when he took over. Does anyone know more?

John Colenback was much older than Jeffrey Rowland so I wonder if Dan was offscreen for a while so the transition wasn't too difficult for viewers to accept?

In this article from Dec 31, 1967, it is said that John took over a year and a half ago so probably mid-1966 if this is accurate.

  14. Think I found Marie Masters' 1st airdate as Dr. Susan Stewart. Would be October 18, 1968. Susan was absent from the canvas since early August and in the October 18 script, she is mentionned as being back from a trip in the UK so it could be quite logical for the recast to be introduced at this point. Some scripts from September are missing though so can't be sure 100%.

Jane House was introduced as Liz Talbot on October 15, 1968 so recasting Susan might have been the plan for the Dan/Susan/Liz triangle coming up.
