Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Carl - Here comes the geek part of me. I actually kept a list from the early 1980's on of GL episodes and characters that appeared in each episode. This clip was from Friday, 5/23/1986. At the very end of the credits they announce that GL would not be on Monday (5/26) and according to my records the show was not on that day and there were no other preemptions during that time frame. I remember that closing theme. Also - this was a transition time at GL because according to my records, Joe Willmore was first credited as EP on May 13, 1986 and then on June 16th is when Ellen Barrett was first listed as co-headwriter with Mary Ryan Munisteri, replacing Jeff Ryder.

I'd love to see more of the Jennifer Richards stuff from 1980. When she was on trial for killing Lucille Wexler and it came out that Alan Spaulding was Amanda's father and Jennifer was her mother. The best I could find on youtube was an Emmy Awards clip when Doug Marland won the Emmy for Best Writing based on the episode submission where Jennifer admits to killing Lucille instead of the secret of Amanda's parentage coming out. Great stuff.

I hear ya. I know she was a very hard worker and passionate about GL. I do struggle though because while I know that the switch to that god awful Peapack format bought the show an extra year and a half, and I'm happy all of those people were employed that much longer, it was still a lame brained idea. I struggle with wondering if GL would have been better going off the air a few years earlier while it still had some shred of dignity. The last year and a half was very painful to see.

I don't believe that GL actually hit #1 in 1984. From what I remember, GL beat GH for 3 weeks in July, but Y&R was #1 during that time. Entertainment Tonight did a segment on GL beating GH and they interviewed Gail Kobe. The very next day were that year's Daytime Emmy awards and I went and stood outside the hotel to see the stars arrive. I recognized Gail Kobe and Pam Long and I shook Gail's hand and said congratualtions on being #1, and she said that GL is not #1, but it will be. I think the confusion about whether or not GL hit #1 was because GH had been #1 and during those weeks GL beat GH. But I do believe that Y&R was actually #1 during the weeks that GL beat GH that summer.

ALL: They Almost Became
It's all good Yur. That rumor about GL contacting her has been around for years, and once I did have a chance to ask Elaine about it and she said they never contacted her nor to her knowledge did they ever consider her for the role.

ALL: They Almost Became
Take some things in this thread with a grain of salt. Elaine Princi was NOT seen for the role of Alexandra on GL. This comes directly from her. She's have loved it, if she was considerd for the role, but it just did not happen.

I hope he's ok. If you do have lunch with her, please tell her that there are still fans out here who miss seeing her on tv. I liked her alot and loved her acting.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
I've been taping Ryan's Hope and in today's episode, Maeve and Johnny were reading a letter about Jack and Mary's honeymoon in Ireland and Claire Labine was in the Ireland scenes. I very vaguely remember hearing that she was in them, and had long forgotten about it until I saw her. I'm not sure what Paul Avila Mayer looks like - maybe he was in the scenes as well.

Texas! Discussion Thread
I loved Texas! I wrote Gail Kobe alot of letters in support of what she was doing and she wrote some letters back thanking me for the support. As sad as it was to see Texas go off the air, who would have known that Gail and Pam would move on to GL and create magic.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
Thanks Steve Frame for your recap. I loved The Doctors. I remember Geraldine Court as Ann Larimer and think she had something to do with Nick? I liked Doris Quinlan's tenure. I remember David Canary as the leader of a cult -- Far Wind. Thanks for the memories that I had forgotten.
