  1. Carol has gotten short changed all year.   I can't see them killing Daryl.  It's true he doesn't have much to do anymore but he is the most popular character for the audience and killing him might cost them viewers.  I am praying it is Morgan who dies.   The show has this uncanny ability to make good characters so stupid you wind up rooting for them off the show:  Lori, Andrea, Tyrese, and now you have Morgan.  That priest tried to work his way back into acceptability but I honestly think for him it is too little too late.   The priest and Morgan were so annoyingly written they need to die.

  2. This was sort of a dull episode.   Introducing one new character is fine, introducing an entire town worth of characters reduces them all to random annoyances I don't really care about.   The head of the town is just annoying.   Rick and Michonne:  They became nauseating awful fast!   Get a room!   The holding hands while driving was just too much.  How sweet.  Then there is Abraham.   Aside from the Bisquick comment he still is dull and this C-List love triangle is a waste of time.   I suspect Sasha is going to die because she has no story really and if they have whatshername, Abraham's other friend who hasn't had a single story since arriving on the show, if they have her kill Sasha in a jealous rage they can get rid of a lot of dead wood at once.   I really think if Glenn or Maggie is slated to die it has to be Glenn.   They already have one single dad raising a baby, to make Glenn one too would be redundant.  But a single mom is something new, and if they kill Michonne because she is romantically entangled with Rick and that can't last, then Maggie and Rick can get all Brady Bunch.   Also, not to make light of Glenn's skill set, but Jesus has the exact same function in his town that Glenn did at the start of the show, and maybe we are looking at Glenn II.

  3. okay----what if Zoom is kidnapping various Jay Garricks from different timelines/time periods trying to heal his cells to regain his speed?

I can't get away from the point that while Zoom is an earth 2 villain, his costume is a modified version of Barry's earth-1 costume.  Nobody on the show seems to notice that but it has to be important.

  4. The thing about Trump is he's exposed this thread of nationalism and authoritarianism among Americans that I find surprising. I think is taken a lot of people by surprise. Trump is slightly hobbled by age, the trophy wives and the fact that he isn't the greatest speaker, as Soapsuds said. Now that we see this nationalist streak exists, I dread the rise of someone who leans in that direction, but isn't a buffoon.

It's really sad how many people really don't understand that America isn't "losing". If anything we have disproportionate amount of power on the world stage and the last thing we need is a leader trying to hammer home the idea that we are entitled to it.

That video last week of the plant shutting down in Nebraska for no good reason to move to Mexico is what Trump means by losing though.    It's 15 years later and we still can't get a win in Iraq where once we won world world II in four years.   It's ego deflating things like that he means.  The fact the waterfronts along our big cities are dead or being renovated into condos because we have no manufacturing anymore because companies like apple ran to China to save a buck.    Some things can't be dismissed as your lying eyes deceiving you, Apple the american company ran to China to set up its factories because it was cheaper.  There was a time when if you wanted an American car, it came from Detroit.  Now nobody even wants an American car.   It's just an ongoing narrative he is referring to.

Last century was the American century, when we built highways , won world wars and went to the moon.   Now the country can't do anything even remotely as impressive as any of those things.   I will say one thing for Trump, there has been a couple of instances in NY where the inept and incompetent city government couldn't get a project completed after years.   Trump came in and just did it in no time.   He would be an excellent Secretary of the Interior or Transportation in charge of creating all our new highways and bridges. He would excel at that.   If they had it where the government could haggle for drug prices, he would be a good one to go in there and do the actual haggling.   Trump isn't dumb at all, he is a little crazy but he isn't dumb.   And the truth is I would vote for him over any of the other republicans.   Crazy is Jeb Bush running to take advice from the very same people who got us into Iraq in the first place.   Trump knows better than that at least.

  5. "I love the poorly educated!" is something like a line you would hear from Ted Baxter.   I think the republican race is over.  Cruz is cooked and Rubio is a lightweight they are all rallying around out of desperation.  The governor would have been a better choice except he comes off as this weak, ineffective, old drip.   It's fascinating that the republicans have had their party hijacked and stolen.   I wish Max was still here to give us his thoughts on this, because I don't see how a true republican can vote for Trump.   Hillary is more conservative than he is.   She will at least keep the wall street, lobbyist game going they all make money from.   They know what they'll get with Hillary--centrism and pragmatic angling and maneuvering.   Isn't that a safer bet than Trump?

  6. Ok, so I have to have a new theory since clearly I was wrong.   Earth 3 maybe, or evil Zoom Jay is from 1000 years in the future.  Barry will prevent Jay from doing whatever it was that turned him evil, and Zoom will never exist.    The man in the iron mask could be Jay as well plucked from another point in the timestream,

  7. I am curious to see if the show will explore what the rest of the gang thinks about this romantic development.  I could see Daryl and Carol being unhappy with this for different reasons.  Carol especially might not like the loss of control that will come from this new reality.   Carl it would seem would love the idea but that doesn't have to be the case  if he has any lingering devotion to his mother and views this as a betrayal.

  8. This was a pretty good episode.   It's weird how they waited one whole episode to go from whatshername to Michonne, but I guess they have a reason.   It was a good scene with them on the couch.

Praise Jesus!   This guy is hopefully a keeper because he seems to have super powers.  I don't even know how he got untied and on the roof of the truck, and how he magically appeared in their bedroom, but he has had more than one opportunity to kill and he hasn't, so hopefully this means he is a goodguy.

Some things on the show don't make sense, like how Dead Deanna managed to walk out of town and wander around for two months, but ok.

  9. I still hate Laurel. God, what a useless character with the stupidest "skill" ever---screeching when she opens her mouth.

Odds just went up that it's Donna in the grave, IMO. Thank God Charlotte Ross got to shake off Donna's innate goofiness for like five seconds when she learned BigBadDaddy was back in town. BTW, does Daddy Smoak have a name besides "The Calculator"? If they mentioned it, I can't recall.

That is actually her power in the comics, so nothing they can do.  Still, this actress and this particular version has been lame from the get go.   The whole series is sinking in quality every week.  I FF now the island sequences, and the present day stuff is just so glum.  The show is no fun.   The repetitive hero skils makes everyone redundant and there are at least five characters on this show that can shoot arrows, use martial arts and talk onimously.   That doesn't even include the first Black Canary or Roy.

  10. No, Jay Garrick is a total hero in Flash lore and I can't see the show changing that.   I think the real clue is despite Zoom being from Earth 2 his costume is a modified version of Barry's Earth 1 costume.  I am tempted to say Zoom is the so far unseen Jay Garrick from Earth 1.  Everyone has a counterpart but he doesn't seem to unless he appeared in one of the few episodes I missed.  So Zoom could be a Jay Garrick or this prisoner could be the other Jay Garrick but that seems unlikely,.   Other than Barry everyone's counterpart has been opposite, so it might stand to reason Jay's is too.   Another solid episode.

  11. I avoid info about the comics at all cost, but Jessica never felt like a true road block for Rick and Michonne. She felt temporary from jump. I also never felt Rick loved Jessica. Overall, I don't ship much on this show either, but I think eventually Rick will figure out that Michonne is supposed to be part of his family. It's just a natural fit.

One thing that's unrealistic about this show is the lack of hook ups. People in this situation would be having a lot more casual sex. That's one reason I thought Shane and Andrea made sense. There would also be a lot more sexual assault going on when people get captured by the bad guys. I'm thankful they've spared us that, but it would definitely be a thing if society broke down. I guess they touched on it with Maggie and the governor.

Unless they want to do a rape a week show, it's better to just ignore it I think.  Realism for the sake of realism isn't always a virtue, and of course there would be roving rapists attacking every woman they find, but who wants to watch such a show?

Rick's love life seems like the last concern the show has.  I never thought whatshername was ever that significant, and her attraction or lack of one for Rick was non-essential information.   He loves Carl, that's enough to flesh out this character emotionally I think.   It seems like romance is the last thing on everyone's mind except for Glenn and Maggie, and their uniqueness I think is what makes them compelling or interesting to any degree.   They have the love story dept covered, and there doesn't seem to be any need for assistance.   I am a little skeptical of them having a baby since what can their baby do for the show that Judith can't?

  12. I wish Carol came in at the last second and saved Sam.  That was so sad that his last thoughts were of Carol's scaring him.  And then when the mother got it I thought this had to be a momentary dream sequence and then someone snaps out if it.   Didn't quite see how Carl got shot.   Carol was right, she should have killed Morgan but hopefully she will get a chance to redeem herself soon.

  13. This was the best debate ever!  It was like if the WWE sponsored a debate this is what it would look like.   The whole thing seemed like an organized effort to bring Trump down, fair enough for the candidates but it seemed like the moderator was setting it all up.  Trump is right that the audience are supporters of the other candidates so their boos don't count.   Most interesting was how they all cling to to their fantasy that everything about 9/11 was Clinton's fault, and everything in Iraq is Obama's fault.  Trump was the only one speaking the truth about what actually happened and who was president, and Jeb wants to bring the very same people back for a sequel.    The republicans want endless war and Trump, the guy with the bad temperament, is the only one who sees how nuts that is.  Unfortunately republicans can't allow themselves to see that because it would call their entire world view into question.

My favorite line was when Trump said Barbara Bush is the one who should be running.

  14. I like that HRC pronounces "Muslim" correctly. It's a small thing, but in these times it's nice to see.

That's the way I feel about the way Obama pronounces "Pakistan" or says "ISIL" instead of "ISIS." I'm always insanely grateful when politicians don't play dumb for political points.

I hate when he calls it  Isis is just catchier and uniformly accepted, so why try and push Isil?  A google search of Isis shows CNN calls it than, the NY Times, The New Yorker,  The Guardian...these aren't bumpkin news outlets.  Not sure what you guys mean with the correct way to pronounce Muslim.   I pronounce it like Does-Lim.  I gather that is not correct from this discussion.

  15. This last week's episode was perfect.   I loved seeing each and every counterpart and it was a nice touch with the mother.  I liked that Earth 2 has this retro yet futuristic esthetic.  It's deco  and   new at the same time.  Jay needs to become less mopey.   It's getting old.

  16. Clinton will need a better premise than "your silly naive dreams can't win.  Vote for the depressing facts of life and vote for me."

I imagine Hillary will still win, but all Bernie has to do is make inroads in minority communities, not win them outright.   It would be a fascinating election if Sanders vs Trump, certainly one for the history books.

  17. I don't see where Bill or Hillary are doing anything wrong.   As in 2008, the media is ever out to get them and once again have anointed the latest savior.   I like Bernie but has the media even asked him how much free tuition for all will cost or what the economic implications of his tax hike will be--or even how he intends on getting his programs passed through congress?  No, they just like anyone who is opposed to the Clintons.   SNL made fun of this back in 2008 and their dead on sendups of the Barack-Hillary debates.   They are doing it again.  Bill attacks Bernie?   Why is that so terrible in a year when the very same media loves it when Trump attacks everyone or Rubio claims Obama is an agent of evil intentionally out to destroy America?  They just want to find something to attack Bill or Hillary with.

I am also not sure the Republican will be tougher than Bernie.   Maybe Chris Christie because he is so coarse and mean, but other than that who is going to give Hillary a hard time in debates, Trump?  And which issue is it that the majority of Americans will side with Ted Cruz on?  Gun control?  Gay Marriage?  What do the republicans have to say that the country agrees with?  That gas prices are at $2 a gallon and it sucks?   That the stock market is double what it was in 2008 and it sucks?

  18. Hopefully this is the end of Marco Rubio.   No one even brings up his talking point is paranoid and deranged.   Even if you think he is right on every issue, how does no one ask him why he thinks Obama intentionally is out to destroy America.   At least The Donald says Obama just doesn't know what he is doing,  Rubio has turned Obama into Dr Evil.    Christie did a good job and I am sure he was a very good prosecutor, but he can't win.   I thought the Donald had a very good night with the way he was explaining to these people eminent domain.   He is completely right, although Bush was right about the old lady in Atlantic City.    Also, Trump missed an opportunity early on when the discussion was temperament and nukes to remind everyone he is the only one who was against the war, and meanwhile Cruz has discussed about nuking the mideast to see if sand glows.  Trump dismissed Jeb there at the end and Jeb just doesn't know how to stand up for himself.  He tries, but what adult man accepts another shushing him on live TV--and then shutting up?

  19. I agree that Jeb should just call it a day.  I start to feel sorry for him, but then I remind myself that he feels entitled to win because two members of his family very wealthy family were already President.

I feel a little sorry for him, his politics aside he is probably under great personal pressure to win.

  20. I'm not sure the campaign knows best how to utilize Bill.  The media is no better.  One day, I read an article praising Bill for a new understated style where he puts the focus on Hillary and apparently away from himself.  The day after next, I read an article that claims that Bill is too understated and seems to be holding back.  No one wants to admit that Bill was very effective when he related policy to the public by using stories and anecdotes that personalized facts and figures, he made what seemed to be impersonal very personal.  He's probably been instructed to tamp down on all that.  And Bill became very effective at going into attack mode, especially the years when he went up against Republican opposition but he has to check his instincts to go on the offensive and try to land the first political punches or else, we get statements like the one he made in 2008 (the fairy tale remarks).

Hillary needs someone who can be fiery and energize her followers and undecided voters but it can't really be Bill and when Hillary tries to do it, it often comes out forced or just plain shouty.

Bill is in kind of a weird and unprecedented position.  Has there ever been a case where a former President of the U.S. is campaigning on behalf of his wife's presidential bid?  How does Bill be the campaigner that people expect, the campaigner he was known for during his '92 campaign, while not taking the focus from Hillary?  Seems like they have yet to find the right balance.  And judging from the remarks in the media, no one really knows how to effectively do this.

Maybe Bob Dole campaigned on behalf of Libby, but there aren't too many husband and wife teams.   It does give Hillary an advantage because with them it is always two against one.   I think though that makes up for the media obsession in trying to bring down the Clintons.  Bill should just go all out, although his voice is a little weak these days.  He makes up for her weaknesses and they've never denied it is by one Clinton get one free.

  21. @quartermainefan, Rubio is trying to curry favor with the 'old guard' of Cuban expatriates who are staunchly anti-Castro and pro-blockade, even past the point of it making sense.

Many young Cuban Americans are in favor of opening diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba and putting an end to the blockade because it has not worked.  Many of the 'old guard' expatriates will not be satisfied until Cuba is (re)made in the way they want it to be re(made).  I used to have relatives who lived/worked and went to medical school in Cuba and I know from conversations that the young people in Cuba, while they don't really care for Castro, they also fear that the ex-patriates from the U.S. will try to come in and take over the country and make it into a Miami-satellite.  And while they want more personal freedoms (which are currently happening very very slowly), they don't want to lose certain things like their education and health systems or what they refer to as their sense of Cubanísmo.

But in short, I think that many of the ex-patriates want things all their way or no-way at all.  By the way, many people would have you believe that every Cuban migrated to the U.S. to get away from Castro, but I know people whose relatives left while Batista was still in power.  Batista, that was backed by the U.S., was utterly corrupt, and while it was profitable for many U.S. businessmen, a select group of wealthy Cubans and some U.S. mobsters, the average Cuban felt humiliation at how they felt they were being treated.  Had Batista governed with a modicum of integrity, Castro would never have been able to role into the city from the countryside- there would be no Castro as president.

I actually play a board game about the cuban revolution.  I do remember when Castro let all his prisons and asylums out and they flooded Miami Beach with people nobody would want.   That was bad and Miami went downhill before South Beach was created.   In any case, Rubio just comes across to me as this complete fake who is incapable of discussing policy honestly because he is always angling for how it will appeal to his tea party followers.   And it is downright bizarre that suddenly Rubio is considered part of the establishment.   He is too far on the fringe to be mainstream.  Mainstream republican yes, but that is because the nutcases have moved that party so far from reason.   It isn't even a left/right thing anymore when it comes to republicans:  they're just nuts.

  22. Ehhh it's Iowa. 99% white and then you've got what like 43% of them saying they're okay with socialism.

if anything tonight just proves how utterly irrelevant this state is and what a horrible mismatch it is to the rest of the country and the parties it represents.

Hillary's camp has apparently declared victory much to Racheal Maddows disgust (which I love). MSNBC is so crushed that Bernie didn't outright win but oh well they'll get over it.

Im glad Rubio did so well in Iowa. Aside from Kasich I think he's the one Republican I'd vote for.

He sucks.  Why is he against opening relations with Cuba?  No one knows other than Obama is the one who opened them.  We can talk to the soviet union for 70 years, we can negotiate with North Korea, but we can't talk to powerless little Cuba who can't hurt a fly?   Isn't this guy Cuban?  Doesn't he want to see Starbucks and McDonalds slowly insinuate themselves into Havana and corrupt their hermetically sealed communist environment?   What did 50 years of sanctions accomplish?

Then there is his immigration flip floppery.  Then there is his abortion zealotry.  Then there is his naive warmongering.  He looks 12, who is he going to impress on the world stage?  He is also an awkward speaker with his desperate water gulping.   Yes, I'd sooner this guy than Cruz, but I would take psycho Trump before either.  At least he doesn't believe that Jesus BS these two spout nonstop.   I love this is the year of the New Yorker, and between Trump, Hillary and Bernie it is time for some New York values and these fundies and gun toting hicks can hit the road on their way to their next abortion clinic bombing or gun massacre.
