  1. David Jacobs home is very 1980s.

I wonder if any hip hop artists or NBA players would purchase this home. Jay Z and Beyoncé were rumored to have been interested in Aaron Spelling's former home. LeBron James purchased one of Bill Bell's former homes.

  3. @BetterForgotten The aftermath of OJ was when GL entered cancel territory. I've pointed it out before but GL got saved from cancel territory in the 1980s because Capitol showed no growth during its run and B&B wasn't a hit right away. Once B&B started showing growth in 1989, one would think GL would be in cancel territory at that point but I don't remember any cancel rumors until the early months of 1995.

It was great that Sally Sussman brought Dina/Marla back to Y&R but I wish that before the Alzheimers story Dina had been allowed to be a kick ass older woman causing the fur to fly In GC. Marla would have nailed it.

Dina's 2017 return breathed new life into the Abbott family and Marla Adams was the real MVP. Dina should have been Y&R's new grande dame.

1994 - it’s no wonder that was such an awful year for the show.

I stopped watching 1994 when Nancy Curlee left as HW. I know post-Curlee two big 1994 events were Alan return and Annie Dutton arrival, but the consensus here is that 1994 on the whole was not very good.

That year and a bit from the aftermath of Maureen death until Nancy Curlee left as HW was a chore to get through. At least there was MZ Emmy-winning storyline in that time.

I'm making my way through 1997 as well and I gotta ask, what was the point of the Claudia storyline (and making Macy so MAGA) if the story was immediately gonna jettison into Thorne's feelings for Taylor?

Also, I see that a character's sudden disappearance has always been a B&B staple 😂

1994 to 1999 has a LOT of these failed characters...

1994-1996 Bradley expanded the canvas in anticipation of 1 hour expansion but when that fell through, there was a cast purge around Spring 1997.

I remember when two actors played a married couple on a soap in the 80s- and both were strictly playing for the home team!  They had an offscreen 'romance' for the soap press but the male half was having a steamy affair with a hot blond stud from another soap on the same network.  The female half came from a somewhat prominent family so she had to be discreet.  Now- guess who these three people (still living) are!

Okay - a few hints.  The lady played more than one role on her show- something that would send most actors to the moon and back!  Her tall dark and handsome leading man was foreign born-no way could he hide his accent!  As for his blond boyfriend from another soap- he wasn't afraid to show some skin for a national magazine- little did the ladies know he showed ALL for his male lover!

    Sounds tasty!

Most on here would probably say to spill the tea.😂

Based on the clues, I think we can rule out the CBS soaps.

  8. There's a gap in the 1990s changes I haven't filled yet.

    EP changes

July 1991: Robert Calhoun to JFP

May 1995: JFP to Michael Laibson

1996: Michael Laibson to Paul Rauch

    HW changes

January 1991: Pamela Long to Nancy Curlee

March 1994: Nancy Curlee to ?

    1995: ? to Megan McTavish

The rest of the 1990s were posted above.

I think it was posted here that March 1994-May 1995 there was a writing committee and no designated HW.

I mean.. is it just me, or Marla played Dina Abbott also on B&B? the same exact character, only different name.

As we know Dina and Beth were nothing alike, so maybe its Marla Adams acting style.

In between Marla Adams original run as Dina and her run as Beth, she was on Generations. I don't believe any of her Generations episodes have surfaced online.

Here are a couple of Marla Adams non-Y&R appearances during her original run as Dina.

Marla and Frank Benard rep Y&R in this CBS soap special week.

    Marla introduces Tracey Bregman performance

  10. Of all soaps during the 1980s, I think GL had the most turnover among EPs and HWs. I might be wrong on some of the dates.

    EP changes

February 1983: Allen Potter to Gail Kobe

January 1986: Gail Kobe to Joe Willmore

June 1989: Joe Willmore to Robert Calhoun

    HW changes

October 1982: Douglas Marland to Pat Falken Smith

November 1982: Pat Falken Smith to L. Virginia Browne

February 1983: L. Virginia Browne to Richard Culliton and Pamela Long

September 1983: Pamela Long becomes sole HW

January 1986:  Pamela Long to Jeff Ryder

February 1986: Mary Ryan Munisteri becomes co-HW

September 1986: Co-HW change from Jeff Ryder to Ellen Barrett

October 1986: Mary Ryan Munisteri and Ellen Barrett to Joseph Manetta

November 1986: Sheri Anderson becomes co-HW

July 1987: Joseph Manetta and Sheri Anderson to Pamela Long

But it's so disheartening that the show had continued success in the palm of its hand (heck, TGL had even done surprisingly well in the ratings during General Hospital's explosive heyday), and then threw it away.

Yes, the Potter/Marland era held its own vs. General Hospital but I can't help but feel that the ratings success was helped by Y&R being in their post-expansion slump. Remember prior to the 1 hour expansion, Y&R was CBS highest-rated soap and was challenging General Hospital and All My Children for #1, but then all their momentum was lost post-expansion. Y&R rebound during the second half of 1982 overlaps w/ GL dropping post-Marland and by 1983 Y&R was back to being CBS highest-rated soap.

    2 minutes ago, vetsoapfan said:

Pamela Long did improve over time, and some of her work was effective (Phillip and Rick's friendship, Bert's short story with Martin Brunner, for example), but she was no Pat Falken Smith.

Pamela Long set in motion characters and storylines that would carry GL through its final 25 years: Lewis family expanded and elevated to a main family, Phillip/Beth, Reva, Alexandra.

I have to put a word in for the Sonni/Solita. I adored it, and Michelle Forbes was robbed of a Best Actress emmy for her work. She was phenomenal. Like Cynthia Watros, she came in and took the focus away from Zimmer's Reva through her acting.

Michelle Forbes got nominated for Supporting Actress in 1990. It's been nearly 35 years since her GL run ended, and she's been working steadily for the better part of those years.

Her scenes with Terry Lester, Beth Maitland, Eileen Davidson and Jerry Douglas were golden.

Oh yes. That group of actors as the Abbott family were the best.

I'd like to think that Marla, Jerry, and Terry are together upstairs right now, sharing memories of their Abbott family years, with Marguerite Ray and Jeanne Cooper joining them.

    What a stunning woman.

Totally agree. Marla Adams original run as Dina (1983-1986) she was serving up primetime soap diva fierceness.

If Marla wasn't cast as Dina, I could totally see her on a primetime soap when they were at their peak.

Didn’t John Silva and Lynne go out on a date together in like 1998/1999 together or something or am I’m misremembering that?

I have no memory of that at all.

I don't remember John Silva with Sheila.

John Silva and Sheila had some scenes together in 1990 where it was hinted that they shared a past but Bill Bell didn't expand on it.

  16. 3 hours ago, Rmodelboy said:

Did John Silva ever have a successful pairing ?

I know there was a past with Sheila and whatever they were trying to do with him and Nina but was there anyone else ?

1996 it looked like John Silva was going to be paired with Jill but Bill Bell dropped it.

In general, the period between 1990/91 to 1992/3 is a weird transition period for most of tv.

1980s hangover, plus a good number of the big 1980s hit shows were winding down.

1993/94 I think was the season that the 1990s really began on primetime: peak Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place took off, peak Home Improvement, Seinfeld blew up, NYPD Blue premiered. Then of course the following season ER and Friends premiered and we know the rest.

By Fall 1993, the only dramas premiering in the 1980s that were still on were Murder, She Wrote; L.A. Law, Matlock, In the Heat of the Night. L.A. Law and In the Heat of the Night ended Spring 1994, Matlock ended Spring 1995, and Murder, She Wrote ended Spring 1996.

Murder, She Wrote was bookended by two very different eras in primetime dramas. It started in the Dallas/Dynasty era and ended in the ER/NYPD Blue era. Murder, She Wrote may not have been as cool and trendy as Miami Vice, Moonlighting, and L.A. Law but Murder, She Wrote out-rated and outlasted them.

Became a fan of Mariah when the song was released. She had so many great hits!!

Did you like pop star Mariah (Vision of Love to Hero) more than R&B/rent-a-rapper Mariah (Fantasy onward)?

Yeah, the charts have felt off for a while.

Some big moves we might see soon.

    Male solo artists:

Drake is one #1 away from moving past Michael Jackson.

    Female solo artists:

Taylor Swift is one #1 away from tying Madonna.

Beyoncé is one #1 away from tying Janet Jackson.

Ariana Grande is one #1 away from tying Janet Jackson.
