  1. Check this out.....a very rare montage of scenes from 1982!......with the Y&R theme with lyrics....you can tell this is 1982 cause they have scenes of Leslie and Chris Brooks and other characters who shortly departed after...some I don't even know

At 3:09-3:26, is that Katherine Kelly Lang? I know she was on Y&R in the early 1980s as Patty's friend Gretchen.

  2. I know, hard to believe that Y&R got no acting nominations until 1984, and no acting wins until 1985 (Beth Maitland for Supporting Actress and Tracey Bregman for Younger Actress, the first year that award was given).

Y&R's first writing nomination was 1975, and first writing win was 1992. It was 1986 that Y&R was given the writing Emmy in error.

  3. One of my all time favorite Y&R scenes. Terry Lester knocked it out of the park showing how hurt he was to be disowned by his father. Jerry Douglas was excellent as well.

Terry Lester was nominated four consecutive years (1984-1987) for Lead Actor at the Daytime Emmys and how he didn't win is beyond me. He was the first Y&R actor to ever be nominated for a Daytime Emmy, yes even before Eric Braeden (who's first nomination was in 1987) and Jeanne Cooper (who's first nomination was in 1989 and she was also Y&R's first lead actress nominee).

  4. Leslie was the Brooks sister most likely to get Lance & Lucas (who constantly sacrificed everything for her) to leave Vanessa permanently (who wanted nothing more than to be the only woman in their lives).

So it seems that Bill Bell used elements of 1970s Katherine, Jennifer Brooks, and Vanessa Prentiss for B&B's Stephanie.

Funny that John McCook was son to one character and husband to another.

  5. Loving all the love for Terry Lester smile.png Count me in as another fan.

Terry was also one of the best celebrity players on Dick Clark's $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid. I don't think he appeared on any other game shows though.

I remember being shocked when the news broke about his passing, as he was quite young (53) and it was sudden from heart failure (from what I read at the time, he wasn't ill for a long period or anything like that).

Storyline-wise, I don't think Lester's Jack would've gotten the marriages and being a war veteran and father. His Jack would be battling Victor and still being a playboy.

  6. Two Y&R episodes I wish would surface online are both from February 1980, the first 1 hour episode and Eric Braeden's first episode. I had always thought Victor Newman's arrival was on the first 1 hour episode, but apparently it was shortly after.

  7. YRfan23, will you be posting May 1990 episodes soon? That was a great month, with the arrivals of Victoria Rowell, Tonya Lee Williams, and Kimberlin Brown. I can't remember which of the three arrived first, although I know Dru was introduced before Olivia.

  8. It is kind of true haha. I know that there was a soaptalk interview where Melissa said that they were spreading rumors about her joining other soaps, and that Passions was one of them.

I remember a SOD cover in 1996 that had a blurb on Melissa Reeves joining B&B as Kristen Forrester.

  9. I didn't know about Greg/April. Or Jack/Peggy (was this mentioned when he flirted with Chris later?). Or Nikki and that doctor. I wonder why they didn't bring him back in 1996 instead of having her marry the gyno she'd known for about five minutes.

Peggy's Jack was Professor Jack Curtis, not Jack Abbott.

Bill Bell often reused character names, ie. Brad Eliot/Brad Carlton, Chris Brooks/Christine Blair, Jack Curtis/Jack Abbott, Michael Scott/Michael Crawford/Michael Baldwin, John Abbott/John Silva, Diane Jenkins/Diane Weston.

  10. it's weird how chaotic the show was at that time

I remember not liking most of the storylines from September 1996-June 1997, save for the Jabot/Newman corporate wars and Michael Baldwin's return. Things picked up in the summer of 1997 with Malcolm and Olivia's wedding and the custody battle for Daniel. That summer Days came within 0.1 or 0.2 of taking Y&R out of the #1 spot.

they banked so much on Shari. Was it because she was married to Ronn Moss?

Shari Shattuck was one of the worst recasts ever. She turned Ashley into a boring b---- and she had no connection to any of the actors they tried to pair her with. I felt she got the part and lasted as long as she did because she was married at the time to Ronn Moss.

  11. Some I've heard for Y&R over the years:

1975 - The late Terry Lester auditioned for Snapper but lost to David Hasselhoff. Five years later Terry originated the role of Jack Abbott.

1982 - Catherine Hickland and Leann Hunley auditioned for Ashley but lost to Eileen Davidson.

1988 - Kimberlin Brown auditioned for Cassandra Rawlings but lost to Nina Arvesen. Two years later Kimberlin originated the role of Sheila Carter.

1989 - Mark Pinter and Jeff Trachta auditioned for Jack but lost to Peter Bergman. Jeff was then cast as Thorne on B&B.

1990 - Alison Sweeney auditioned for Victoria but lost to Heather Tom.

1993 - Kurt McKinney auditioned for Cole Howard but lost to J. Eddie Peck. Eric Braeden's son Christian was also considered for Cole but turned down the role.

1994 - Eddie Cibrian and David Tom auditioned for Nicholas. Eddie was then cast as Matt Clark, and David would join the cast 5 years later as Billy. Joshua Morrow auditioned for Dylan Shaw on B&B but was then cast as Nicholas.

1996 - Cindy Ambuehl, Kimberly Simms, Krista Tesreau auditioned for Ashley but lost to Shari Shattuck. Cindy was then cast as Kim Swanson on B&B.

1997 - Jennifer Gareis auditioned for Victoria but lost to Sarah Aldrich. Jennifer was then cast as Grace Turner.

1999 - David Lago auditioned for Billy but lost to David Tom. David L. was then cast as Raul.

2005 - Rachel Kimsey auditioned for Victoria but lost to Amelia Heinle. Rachel was then cast as Mac.
